The food was excellent. One of the best filet steaks I've ever had. The service was top-notch. The setting was very nice - some other patrons were a little loud, but overall very pleasant experience.
Kyle was skilled, knowledgeable and very helpful.
This place is a must do.
Our server was inattentive; our entrees came out 30 minutes after 3 tables that ordered 20 Minutes after us. I had to ask our waitress about the status of our meal. We were only a group of 3, so our party size wasn’t too large.
Historic, consistently excellent menu and service and the atmosphere can be anything from romantic to celebratory. Always our "go to" with guests and for family celebrations.
While traveling through Virginia to visit our daughter, we spent a night at the Red Fox Inn and had the chef’s meal. The courses were all interesting and delicious, service was perfect and the tavern ambiance is great.
The food was fantastic. However the service and ambience just didn’t match the price point or capability of the chef. Extremely loud music from the upstairs bar and a server who didn’t know the menu (particularly the house selected wine pairings) made for wonderful food that we wish we could have eaten somewhere else.
Anniversary dinner and the 4 course dinner was superb!
Our sever Mason made the experience. He was knowledgeable on the food and wine pairings. Made our celebration even better.
He made my wife feel comfortable with all her food allergies.
I have been to Red Fox many times. It has always been consistent in both service and quality. This is why my husband and I chose this for our 10th anniversary. To say I was disappointed is an understatement. The service was borderline non-existent. I understand that we are still dealing with COVID but that is not an excuse for inattentive service. As soon as our server asked if we wanted the wine pairing with our meal and we replied no thank you, it started. She made a face and everything went down hill. I watched her be extremely attentive to the tables around us but barely acknowledged our table. She didn’t ask us how our meal was; didn’t offer coffee or after dinner drinks. Just dropped the check on the table and walked away. I honestly could not believe that this was the level of service we received when we were paying $125 per person for dinner. My meal was fine. The starter of beef wontons was the star of the meal. My husbands meal though was bland. His steak had no seasoning, the black truffle butter was indiscernible and the the sauce that accompanied the steak was bland. We have never had a bad meal here. The pecan pie was so hard we couldn’t even cut it. I don’t know what happened last night. After that I don’t think I could recommend the four course tasting experience. My experience was definitely not worth the price.
We had a wonderful time here. We did the four course food experience meal, and the food and service were both amazing. I definitely recommend trying this dinner option!
Can always count on Red Fox for a romantic dinner. Great service and food in a historic place.
We had an amazing meal. The food was incredible and Mason our server, was extremely knowledgeable, brought some fun to the table with his expertise mixed in. The ambiance and history is nothing but impressive. We will be back and would love to see Mason again!
Everything was great except for the dessert which was not up to par! Chocolate red wine cake was refrigerated and when eaten with utensil, fell apart at each layer! Only thing not consumed at the wine pairing 4 course dinner for two!
Very good food and service was amazing. I would have to say the price was on the heavy side for a 4 course dining experience. We spent $400.00 for 2 people and 2 drinks each.
We had an amazing anniversary experience with their Fixed Four Course dinner with some wine pairings and a Mini Möet. Justin at the bar was fantastic and was our sever as well as had a good bit of knowledge on the food and wine pairing. The the whole team from greeting, to finding the hidden restrooms, to leaving was great. The desert came out with a little congratulations chocolate across the top.
The horse paintings, both new and old, gave it that horse country ambiance. There was even a little mini-speaker outside the restrooms so people doing their business had some privacy as did us in the hallway.
This was a truly amazing experience in Middleburg.
Note - The staff did wear masks, as did we, until we were seated and again upon our departure. There was not a mask requirement or vaccination status posted. The seats in the dining area were separated by 6-8 feet.
Food and service over the top
Had the most fantastic server and great food!!
It was the perfect touch to a two day get away. Server was very attentive and knew the menu very well. The restaurant was very cozy and rustic. Could of stayed there all night. Great job by the entire team.
Great food, excellent service and very nice ambiance. But super expensive.
Red Fox Inn & Tavern was outstanding! My husband and I had a lovely dinner with the wine pairings. The food was excellent and the wines chosen for each dish were spot on. I loved the salmon cake and halibut. I highly recommend.
This will be our ‘go-to’ place to celebrate special occasions
Terrible experience! Zero ambience and extremely uptight -
We had 2 Children , who were extremely well behaved and after we got our dinner, the manager informed us that the kids were being loud and we needed to keep it down -
At that point we were the only table in our area of the restaurant so it made no sense why anyone could have complained. This was almost 2 hrs into our meal and made no sense why it took anyone so long to share this with us .
We asked to speak to the restaurant manager who proceeded to tell us that “ maybe this was not a restaurant for us ?” ..
We have been to many 5 star restaurants with our daughter since she was born and no one has ever been complained and been openly rude in how they handled the situation..
It was so poorly managed and in fact made zero sense why they would even offer a kids menu when clearly they were unwilling to accommodate children. We will not be returning and would never recommend.
Excellent all around
Exquisitely prepared food and top notch service made for a memorable night. The fixed price tasting meal is a delight with a variety of choices to suit different tastes, and generous portions of delectable food.
Very special occasion and the four course meal was perfect
Great food, ambiance, and service!
The experience was one to remember. This was a special night as it was my wife's birthday. The staff went above and beyond. It started with the happy birthday welcome from the greeter. The waitress tended to our needs and ensured that my wife had a great evening. The four-course meal was flawless and paced very well. The waitress's knowledge of wine pairing was exceptional. We will return and would highly recommend it.
It is amazing how the rudeness and loudness people at other tables can spoil a good experience. The food was nicely presented and prepared. Our server Mason was excellent. We feel based on the quality of food that a two course option would’ve been better for us. It was definitely not worth the price. We took the desserts with us and they are amazing.
Food was excellent. Although as others have said it is a lot of food for a tasting menu. 4 full size+ servings.
Old world wine pairing was good. A bit expensive for the wines they served. But all in all, a great experience.
The meal was fantastic!! The hospitality was warm and welcoming.
This is a lovely Virginia Hunt Country venue, staff is attentive and welcoming, and the building itself is very historic. The food, sadly, didn’t measure up to the surroundings or the wait staff. It was good, and would have made for a standout banquet at a very large event like a wedding or a convention. But I expected higher quality for this price. The bar drink was watery, and the duck skin was soft and flabby rather than crisp. The bison steak was good, but again not especially noteworthy and not at all worth the up charge. Two standouts were the homemade cornbread, which was made with orange zest, and the duck wings (which were an add on).
The four course dinner was delightful and the service (thank you Kyle) was outstanding. Thank you.
Very accommodating and friendly staff as well as delicious food and drinks.
Wonderful evening on the terrace. Great food, attentive service, and a nice candle for the birthday cake. Great job.
We did the Four Course Dinner at the recommendation of the concierge at our hotel. What a menu each course had great options with wonderful combinations of ingredients. Our first course we had the Salmon Cakes and Beef Wontons. Second course Field green salad and Heirloom Tomatoes and Burrata. Third course Pistachio Crusted Salmon and the Caramelized Sea Scallops and final course Smore tart and Key Lime Cheesecake. We also added the Fried Artichokes that came with a chimichurri aioli. Server and runners were very attentive and knowledgable about the menu. Only negative was the room was a little warm even with a standing fan near by. Definitely a dining experience .
Way overpriced for what you get! We have been to many restaurants that offer chef’s tasting menus and this was the most disappointing by far. We each got different things off the menu so we were able to try eight different things and most were just average. We did order the crispy duck wings that were in addition to the menu and those were the best of the evening. We had both wine pairings as well, and while the wine was fine the pours were a little stingy. For spending over $500 for the tasting menu and wine pairings, I would say spend your money elsewhere, but if you want to pop-in for the duck wings that’s worth it!
The Inn is absolutely lovely, the bar is charming, and the restaurant good. It was perfectly fine, but did not live up to the reviews or hype. I did not find the quality of the meal to aligned with the price. I would absolutely recommend the Inn but suggest alternate dinner plans. Enjoy!
We had a fabulous dinner. Food was outstanding, service attentive. Great place for a special occasion.
Nice place and location but the dinner experience was below our expectations: the plates were too large and rich for a 4 course menu; the fans outside on the terrace were loud and ruined the atmosphere; no red wine from Virginia served with the 3rd course; service was fine
