The Red Kite
The Red Kite has a new look with new dining areas, new kitchen, coffee service and refurbished rest rooms. All meals are made using fresh, locally sourced ingredients wherever possible. And, with the exception of our bread and ice-cream, everything from the chips to the sauces, are made from scratch on the premises.
Outside the pub there is a large car park area, planting and garden furniture to entice walkers on the Derwent Walk and dogs are very welcome.

Fish Supper for Two
Worst sunday lunch ive ever had. Served within minutes. Saw into kitchen and Yorkshires were sotting there piled up with door to car park open and flues hanging round. Lamb was tuff i needed a steak knife
Great food, lots of good menu choices, lovely setting and atmosphere and attentive service but not too much. We’ll be returning for sure.
Had a really lovely time here, all the staff were freindly and helpful and they were very accommodating for our dog.
Very impatient waiter, toilets not clean
Amazing Dining Experience at The Red Kite. The Garlic & Chili Salmon and the Award Winning Pie are some of the best dishes I've ever had. Amazing service from start to finish from all the staff! Superb location and value for money. Will definitely be back :)
Lovely food .. Great atmosphere.. and the staff really pleasant and friendly..
Absolutely amazing Sunday dinner they even gave us extra portions of beef for the dogs. Sticky toffee pod was lovely! Staff so helpful.
An excellent restaurant. Fantastic food and great service from excellent staff. It was our 1st visit and it won't be our last. I would highly recommend and look forward to my next visit...
Very nice food good quick service. Will be visiting again.
Excellent service and food was exceptional, very tasty Sunday lunch. Will definitely be back.
Such a great pub and amazing sunday lunch- love the decor. Love it and can’t wait to visit again
Good quick service food excellent and plenty well worth a visit very friendly staff thanks will visit again
Nice food but a bit over priced, disappointing that they closed at 9.30 on a Saturday evening nice enough though.
Excellent service but food cooked from fresh so expect to wait.
My husband said his mashed potato was not cooked to his taste but on the whole I would recommend The Red Kite as a good place to eat.
The award winning pies from the menus weren’t available
Food took almost an hour to come
Table next to us loud and using bad language
Staff were friendly and welcoming. Food was good, especially the starters.
Food delicious. Lots of options for meat and loads of vegetable varieties. Food cooked to perfection. Waiting staff extremely friendly and accommodating. One lady went to extra efforts to check dessert options for our son
Great location next to the Derwent Walk, large beer garden, decent food (burger was a bit disappointing but I’ve had far worse, chips were good, gammon with fresh pineapple was great), good service though a bit slow sometimes (despite it being pretty empty, but they must’ve been understaffed). Noise from busy road outside in the garden and the front, but rear dining overlooking nature was nice. Good place to have lunch and then enjoy the wonderful Derwent walk.
A superb Sunday Roast. Succulent roast beef with tasty vegetables and a giant Yorkshire pudding. Good, friendly service.
Excellent Sunday lunch. Good value for money. Very friendly staff
Sunday lunch to treat my mum
The veg was very hard the pork was stringy and hard to cut
Food was fantastic, however service was extremely slow
All that’s was available on a Sunday was a Sunday lunch menu no lite bites.
Asked for fresh orange and was give. Orange quash
Soup of the day stated (v) but was told it was pea and ham with no other alternative
Had a fabulous Sunday lunch here the staff were very attentive and the food was delicious. Will definitely come back.
Let’s get the one negative out of the way… The girl serving us didn’t seem to know the drinks menu, took my order twice then came back to tell me they didn’t sell it… then when we asked about what lager they had we were given the cider list… 🤔
HOWEVER, the food was unreal. I’m very sad I didn’t have room to have a dessert as the Sunday Lunch was so amazing! I had the beef brisket which just melted in your mouth and trust me, you got plenty. They defo need to up their gravy game and be much more generous there, I bloody love gravy and we had to ask for more as did the 2 other tables near to us.
All in all the most amazing food and was worth visit.
The starters were disappointing and overpriced. Whilst the pie main was amazing the other dishes were overpriced and certainly nothing special.
But the main problem was they sat us in an over crowded area with dogs and yet when we entered and left there was an abundance of empty tables and space which would have been much more comfortable. It was ridiculous, we left because it was over crowded and too warm ( we skipped the desert menu because of this)
Overpriced and poor quality food. Steak was not a good cut of meat and wouldn't have served it. Very expensive for what we had. 65 pound for fish and chips, steak and chips, burger and chips, bottle of red wine and a black currant.
Probably one of the best bars in newcastle or gateshead to take a dog, staff are very welcoming, food is great and the beer garden is a really good size each table feels private, all on the derwent walk aswel, would highly reccomend for any dog owners wanting pub lunch or drinks
Lovely night - unexpected treat of a great singer Dan Elliott - great little place - thank you
The food was amazing
The only thing I would critique is that the venison burger needs a sauce on it. It was delicious, but slightly dry
Staff had no idea regarding allergies. The gluten free version of Sunday lunch was the regular Sunday lunch without a Yorkshire pudding or roast potatoes. When asked if I could substitute something for these items as almost £13 for half a Sunday lunch is ridiculous, I was told no so we left after our drinks without eating.
Lovely place for Sunday lunch really enjoy it here.
Service and food excellent. We had the curry and steak pie - both very good. The young waiter was also very impressive; he was prompt with our orders , checked that we were happy and his attention to detail when cleaning the tables was superb!
The menu has changed significantly since our last visit. We live an hour away so only call if we are nearby but it was always a great favourite. Now its like all othe pub menus! No cornbeef pie, no sandwiches, no salads..all changed. Its still a lovely pub with friendly staff and a great location but the food is no longer special
Food and the service we got in the day was fantastic. Will definitely be going back in the future. Highly recommended.
Amazing staff and service!!! Sunday dinner was the best we've had in a long time. Keep up the good work! We will definately be back.
Food was awesome, great beer garden but some maintenance guys were hammering the tables next to us. I’d imagine it would have been nicer but this is a great place.
We sat outside, we were served quickly, staff were polite and friendly.
Meal was lovely, will definitely go back
The staff were really friendly and super attentive, the music choices were great, so much so that we’re coming back with friends for food and drinks soon because your cheesy hits playlist had me in such a good mood! The food was beautiful, the braised beef on the Sunday dinner was divine!! The mashed potato, the Yorkshire pudding, everything was perfect! Will be recommending and also be returning soon!
Food was excellent and the waiting staff were all very polite and helpful.
