The Red Kite
The Red Kite has a new look with new dining areas, new kitchen, coffee service and refurbished rest rooms. All meals are made using fresh, locally sourced ingredients wherever possible. And, with the exception of our bread and ice-cream, everything from the chips to the sauces, are made from scratch on the premises.
Outside the pub there is a large car park area, planting and garden furniture to entice walkers on the Derwent Walk and dogs are very welcome.
Really lovely food would definitely recommend. The parking could be better though. My husband is disabled and finds the walk up very difficult.
Gorgeous Sunday lunch! Probably the best nut roast I’ve ever tasted!
The food was wonderful, we had Sunday dinner which was delicious. We will definitely be coming back
The indoors food area was practically empty yet we waited 40 minutes for it to be delivered. some staff were not wearing masks.
I had your fish pie (Salmon, Cod and Prawn) which was not worth the £15.00 I was charged. Not much fish only 1 king prawn. It was mainly potato.
I don't think we will ever come again
Lovely food which was served reasonably quickly. Not a great choice on the childrens menu. Food was hot and tasty. Would visit again
Now quite a bit more pricey than it was, consequently little atmosphere as empty
Staff very attentive food served swiftly and hot
No coffee or tea available today as waiting for new machine
But will definitely go again
Excellent Sunday roast with lots of choices. The selection of beers on tap were less imaginative. Very dog friendly (the waitress brought my greyhound a bowl of water and a treat). Beautiful location to eat outdoors with a view of Derwenthaugh Country Park.
Nice beer garden with plenty of tables.
Staff friendly and polite.
My first ever visit to the red kite. The food was very tasty, nothing was too much trouble for the staff who were all really lovely.
Toilets were very clean, very covid secure place with a lovely beer garden.
We went there for food and drinks after a long walk, i would definately visit again and would highly recommend this lovely, warm and friendly place to anyone.
Thank you for a lovely afternoon 😁
delicious food great price and even better service
Really nice food but the garden table service is not up to scratch. They didnt bring cutlery with our food so we had to wait to eat our food and started using our fingers. You would of thought the table would of been cleaned and had a reserved sign on ready for our arrival and the menus kept blowing away in the wind and the paper hit my friend in the face. I would suggest laminated the menus then clean after being touched. Overall nice food.
Up and coming venue, a good bus ride from Newcastle Central, but well worth the trip. Food was excellent and I believe they have plans to extend their cask ale range (Landlord was in good fettle. Would recommend for a good, inexpensive meal.
Lovely pub. Lovely food. Disappointed they didnt have the dessert on that i wanted. Highly recommend tho
Good but no non alcoholic choices on menu
Lovely food and great value. Service pretty slow but maybe had new staff. Will defiantly try again.
Table Service little slow, waited up to 20 mins for drinks to arrive at 1 point. Understand just reopened so give benefit if doubt, just thought pass on the comment. Will be returning non the less
Good was excellent and service fantastic
Waiting for food was a while then we had a drink spilt on us and I had white converse on that are now pink, and when we received the bill we had been charged the the extra drink that had been spilt. We thought some discount off our bill would have been offered after my shoes had been ruined. Mistakes happen but maybe just checking with customer afterwards. Food was amazing
Awesome meal in a lovely quiet setting with fabulous friendly service. We will definitely be back for more!
Location is beautiful and the staff were friendly. The food was spoiled by it having too much pepper in it. My wife's seafood dish was overpowered by the pepper and also my steak pie.
Lucy our server was lovely.
Not much choice for vegans. Very limited menu. Not even a salad.
We had the mushroom curry which was nice and filling.
Won't return for food unless the menu changes but will go for a drink in the beer garden.
Excellent menu for gluten free diets, excellent choice, good value and lovely service. Fish and chips was a little greasy, but other than that it was lovely as usual.
Great meal, third visit in three weeks! Staff are great and the food is brilliant every meal we had was perfect!
Some things not available probably as we followed a bank holI day weekend
A little disappointing
Otherwise good very good will return
We booked 2 outside tables for 11 family members to enjoy our 1st meal out in 14/15 months & had a great time. Happily the sun shone on us throughout. Menu choice was restricted to Sunday lunch which was plentiful, well cooked & tasty.
An added bonus was the large grassed area just behind which was great for the kids to run round.
This was our first visit since the take over I am pleased to say it is as wonderful as it has always been as we often visit this lovely pub due to it being local to us . The prices have increased but our Sunday lunch was beautiful and we will definitely return as we have always done
We ordered our food, 1 hour later we were told they forgot to put our order through. We left after waiting another 10 minutes. I felt most for my 6 year old as he was very disappointed and hungry!
We had Sunday lunch there 30th May..I ordered a 250ml white wine, it came in a small plastic cup (like the kind on a cheap all inclusive) at £6.95 a glass not cheap!!! I found out today the cups don't even hold 250ml 😠..The lunch was nice but over priced at £12.95 !!..used to enjoy Red Kite but feel they are taking advantage since lockdown restrictions lifted..
Lovely beer garden, decent food, good service. Car park is a bit small but there is one a little further down the road.
Called for Sunday lunch, first time under new management.
Could not fault it at all. Service was attentive but not intrusive, food was delicious. Good portion sizes snd veg cooked perfectly. Couldn’t recommend enough.
Food was great, and service was good, would highly recommend.
Food was nice but had run out of leg of lamb and horseradish sauce by 1245 , service was very poor, took 25 minutes to clear the table after main meal was finished and then another 15mins for kids ice cream to be served had to ask several times for extra gravy, side order, found it expensive for a Sunday lunch with kids.
Not keen on new menu, no track and trace, tables were too close together (no social distancing. Won't be hurrying back!
Pleasant visit, very clean and tidy, staff were nice. Food was nice but could do with some small touches like a strawberry or raspberry in the prosecco, an option of additional condiments and one way system explained. Would still visit regularly despite this.
Food was delicious and good size portions especially the baked Camembert starter, and the Bannoffe pie cheese cake was unreal. Staff friendly.
Really good first visit to a pub after lockdown easing, food was great as was the service.
Lovely food and service now it’s been taken over.
Will defo be back
For the pub reopening everything was fab
Food was incredibly fresh and came out quickly! The batter on the fish and chips was light and crispy, steak was over cooked to how it was ordered but was still tender.
