My husband and I have been coming to The Reef for about 20 years now and Saturday was our Anniversary. We had the best experience at The Reef. The food, service, and view were great!! The manager made it extra special for us and that just topped the whole dinner!!!
We had a blast in Auggie's section! His energy and terrific personality gets his whole section going. If you want a fun time while dining on great food, don't forget to request Auggie's section!
I had a reservation and had me sit for 30 minutes the table was not set I had to go look for waiters to attend table and so noisy my date was very disappointed but never going back
Always great time
Went to celebrate my Ladies Birthday, it was a memorable event, one that she and I will remember forever.
Our server appeared overwhelmed. Very difficult to get her attention for a second round of drinks. Food runners have no idea who ordered what. The calamari was very good. The Mahi Mahi was very fishy.
The quality of the food and selection has gone down tremendously.
We went to brunch for our anniversary since we got married at the Reef 12 years ago. Unfortunately, the server assigned to the patio area was not available. We had to ask other employees the server whereabouts and we didn’t get our drinks until almost 30 minutes after we sat down. We were reminded from the beginning about the 2 hour limitation, yet we didn’t have an opportunity to order food or get drinks in a timely manner. Also, our utensils were taken with our plates and it took another 20 minutes for us to get them to continue eating. It seemed as the restaurant was short-staffed since it was difficult to find employees. Also, the food was not warm enough and it had a really poor layout for the food selection. This experience was very disappointing due to the lack of service and as we drove from Santa Clarita to Long Beach for brunch to celebrate the our anniversary.
Sunday Buffet was very disappointing. For a buffet, food selection was some what limited and did not taste freshly made. Every thing seems to be pre-made and then reheated. My prime rib from the carving station was cold.
I have been going here for about 43 years now and it is still the same "great" place to dine. Delicious food, great service and wonderful view!
We came here to celebrate our anniversary. It was late on a week night so it was fairly empty. Our server was really nice but wasn’t really good. First, she brought out my appetizer and didn’t bring my husband’s clam chowder. We saw her outside talking to the bus boy for a while so we got her attention and when she came in, we asked her about it. She apologized and brought it to him. I ordered the Prime Rib only to be told 10 minutes later they were out and was offered a ribeye. which my husband already ordered but I accepted. The ribeyes were dry, overdone and not tasty as all. The garlic mashed potatoes were good but came out luke warm. The vegetables were barely cooked and hard to eat. Lastly, the lava cake dessert was chewy and hard to eat. As we were eating the bus boy kept coming to our table asking to take our dishes. Overall, we think they were rushing to close because we were the last guests there and we got whatever was left over and they rushed to prepare that. We’ll stick to Sunday buffet brunches here. This isn’t the place for a nice, quality dinner.
First time here and it was wonderful
Great service for Malele. Great views. Booths very dark. Food nicely cooked and presented.
Ramshakle place. Confusing where to enter. Banquet facility overshadows restaurant.
My boyfriend and I visited The Reef during restaurant week. The service was pretty good, however the food was mediocre for the price. Luckily, our dinners were part of the restaurant week menu and discounted for the amount of food we got. I wouldn’t go back and pay full price. For appetizers, we had the clam chowder (best part of my meal) and my bf had the calamari. The calamari was tasteless, and we asked for lemon to make it better, and that never came out. I had the blackened mahi-mahi for dinner, and it was pretty dry. Seems like it was frozen, not fresh fish. My boyfriend had the seafood collage, and that was tasty and very rich. The wine pairings we received were just okay, and the glasses didn’t look like they were cleaned thoroughly. The dessert wasn’t good. I never pass up dessert, but I did this time. I ordered the lava cake and it was crunchy and over cooked, with Hershey’s chocolate sauce drizzled on top. The view was great, and I really wanted to like this place, but it didn’t do it for me.
We like The Reef and try to go a couple of times a year. This was a nice family dinner that did not meet our expectations . We often waited or kept asking for things. The food was disappointing and strangely, an air vent was leaking on one of us. We did enjoy each other’s company and the view. The staff was kind, but seemed understaffed.
I did the dinner special with wine pairings. It was a very good price considering the wine they chose. The food was fantastic. They really know how to cook their fish. I would go back here anytime. Oh and the views make you want to stay longer.
Water front restaurants are always a great treat. We celebrated our 35th Anniversary where we had our wedding reception. The Reef will always be special to us. We enjoyed a good brunch, a great view, and fantastic service! Ask for Augie's section! He is alot if fun! He will give you an interactive experience 😁
My kids and I loved it and would recommend it are friends and family.
Arrived and was greeted by the hostess, informed us immediately the kitchen was backed up. Prepared myself for long wait or potential slow service... NEITHER happened! Great atmosphere and view!!! Just not sure why Opentable points weren't given for the visit.
We sat outside on the patio and it was wonderful! It was quiet and perfect for conversation, inside was a bit louder. The food was excellent and the wine pairings were PERFECT with it. Claudia, our server, made it even better with her attentiveness and sense of humor. This was our first time and we will definitely be back!
Took my daughter there for her birthday. We were seated 30 minutes after reservation time. Room was noisy. Food was too salty. Service was poor. No token birthday dessert. Disappointing experience. Excellent view.
They gave us a very scenic view of the Long Beach shoreline! Magnificent! We were able to eat and talk and hear each other. We had dineLA menus so that was great view, great value.
Great ambience and location.
Augie is the best 👍👍👍
Had a great time. The server Augie was hilarious. He made us laugh a lot and we enjoyed him!
The waiter, who the manager said was one of her veteran waiters, was horrible! He didn't check on us, didn't clear the table, didn't ask if we needed anything. The food he brought from the kitchen was cold. When I called for him he turned and went In the opposite direction. He could be seen behind the bars drinking and chatting with other staff. The female manager took up for him saying he was a more experienced waiter so I assume this treatment was purposefully done.
One of the best restaurant if not the best one to take the love of your life for a romantic dinner..
Reservations at 830pm, wasn't seated till 915pm . There was plenty of open tables maybe not enough servers. I ordered my filet mignon well done but received my steak still bloody. My family and I we're seated by the party room so we could here the DJ.
We came to have dinner and watch the fireworks. Had a good dinner and watched the fireworks, had a good time. The Reef is a great place. We were on a patio with a nice water view.
Chicken tasted like banquet food. Prime rib was meh. Need to work out proper seasoning....
The view is great. Servers are friend and attentive but food is just average
I think they need to do better house keeping. We set next to the window and we could tell the outside of the window were dirty. They could've had better spacing on the table. This is my go to resturant, but they are starting to get a little sloppy.
I disappointed very much for the food. Every single dishes were very salt and not tasted at all.
The steak came out rare, bloody even I ordered medium,so they needed to cook again.
The lobster tail was so small and over cooked. Our dishes looked so messy and dirty somehow.
Lastly, the hostess at the front was not friendly, even arrogant. I think they should hire a nice and friendly person at the front. The first impression is very important I believe.
Overall my experience at the Reef was very horrible. I am sorry to rate this.
Food was just okay. Didn't have flavors that wow'd me. Service was extremely slow. Don't know if they were short staffed? View is beautiful!
Outdoor deck could do with updated seat cushions and paint. Overall food was great so would recommend.
I asked for a view when I made my reservation. even said I understood I might have to wait for a table to come open. The restaurant was practically empty and I was still not put near a window or offered to be outside. The food was good but nothing amazing. Seems like a place that should be packed on a Sunday evening and we were the last people there. Disappointing
Server was new and obviously not trained. Our meal took over 2 hours. We had to get our own silverware from other tables, ask for drinks multiple times and the food took forever to come out after the appetizers. We would have ordered more wine if asked.
Great variety, nice scenery! I would definitely go back!
I love their food but service was not good! Not sure if it was because it was Father’s Day but we waited super long periods of time where we had to find someone to get us the steamed foods! It was very frustrating especially since they stress a two hour table limit!
Augie is always great. Loved the Grilled burgers and brats.
