The Baggis Burger and chips were excellent and came out of the kitchen fast and hot
Dessert was disappointing and took a long time to deliver The Apple and cinnamon cake was dry and dull the Apple chip was tasteless only the apple sorbet component of the dish was fresh
Thank you for taking the time to leave us your feedback. I am sorry to hear the dessert was not as good as we know it can be. We will pass this back to our kitchen team to look into. Team Refinery.
Great restaurant and service! Just wish the portions for several of the mains were a wee bit bigger.
Booked this place for a casual meal with colleagues (7 of us) post all day workshops. Was very nice, lovely ambience and interior design - we went on a Wednesday evening and it was quite. Yay with a good energetic atmosphere . Staff seem very friendly on arrival, and menu had a lot of good choice. The only downer was the steak that my colleague ordered, he asked for medium and it came back pretty much burnt, he sent it back and got a fresh one which still definitely wasn’t “medium”. The rest of us all really enjoyed our food otherwise.
Thanks Chelsea for leaving us a kind and honest review. I am sorry to hear that the steak was not right for your guest though. I do hope though that we will see you again soon for another visit. Team Refinery.
It was easy to book online and we didn't have to wait to be seated. Service was very good. We all enjoyed our meal. We had family across from Canada and the restaurant was a good advert for Edinburgh. Would definitely recommend!
Hi Kirstin. Thank you for taking the time to leave a lovely review. I do hope you're family enjoyed their trip Edinburgh. Hopefully we will see you again soon. Team Refinery.
Impressed by The Refinery in Edinburgh’s St. Andrews’ Square - initial impression was of (noisy?) buzz but the table upstairs was quieter, spacious and comfortable. Excellent food served promptly and competently - we felt valued and under no pressure to leave after a delightful evening
Thank you for taking the time to leave us a lovely review. So glad you enjoyed your evening with us. I do hope you will return to see us again soon. Team refinery.
Been to The Refinery a few times before for an impromptu lunch, and thoroughly enjoyed it. However on this occasion I pre booked as it was my sons 18th Birthday lunch, and we were going to have cocktails .
Upon arrival, despite asking for table upstairs , we were taken downstairs beside a couple with small children. Love children, but wanted this to be a special day. The waitress said upstairs was fully booked despite me saying I had requested this. She double checked and gave us a window seat upstairs. We ordered gnocchi Mac cheese as a side . and ribeye steak, and fish finger sandwich . My son tried his best to make out he was enjoying his sandwich , but said he just couldn't eat it due to the fishy smell. ( fresh fish actually does not have a smell). My steak, which I had asked to be well done was rare. To top it all off, the waitress brought coke when I asked for Diet Coke, and was very reluctant to admit her mistake. I also thought that when she was clearing our table she would have asked why we had left more than half the food, including the gnocchi , which was inedible . We did not stay for desert and cocktails , we went to The Hawksmoor , which is where I wish I had gone in the first place! Put me off going back!

This was my first of two visits this week alone. It's always a delightful place to be; so central, the decor is lovely, the food good and the service is always particularly good. It all makes for a really top class destination. Thank you.
Thank you Anne for your lovely review. So glad to hear you have enjoyed both visits with us this week. I do hope we will see you again soon for another visit. Team Refinery.
Service was poor and the food was tasteless. Would not recommend to anyone.
Thank you Christine for taking the time to leave a review. We would very much like to find out more detail about your visit. If you would like to speak to Richard our GM then please email info@refinerystandrew.co.uk and we can discuss further with you. Team Refinery.
Great location
Something for everyone from this menu. Buzzy atmosphere but could still hear ourselves talk. Speedy and conscientious service
This was the only restaurant in the UK that we dined at twice during our vacation. Our hotel breakfast was pricey, so we ate here and what a treat! The menu was creative and the food outstanding, and I can't say enough about the service. I wish I could remember our server's name because she was awesome! She had great suggestions for touring Edinburgh, and even alerted us to use up our Scottish money since it would not be good back in London. We didn't even realize we had Scottish money! So when we checked she gladly exchanged it for Pounds. We will definitely return on our next visit.
Food was good. Service was OK....we had to ask for the check. Ambiance was good - warm, comfortable chairs and not too loud.
2nd visit and it was as impressive as my first. I chose the Refinery hoping my friends would agree with my good review. Thankfully, they did. They enjoyed the food (very much), commented on the friendly and professional service and liked the location of the restaurant. I chose one of the specials from the menu which was a Sea Bream dish and it was delicious (portion sizes are perfect) and we all thought it was very good value for money. I shall continue to both recommend and bring friends to this restaurant.
Excellent as always, always good food, ambience and service. Our waitress, lovely girl from Toronto, was excellent
Very nice inside staff friendly
Clean very clean toilets
Staff very good at there job
Food very yummy
Drinks very nice
Would go back again
Fabulous
👍
Really good food, friendly staff, nice atmosphere!
We were given a table for 2 upstairs with a great view but no room for chairs as squashed between two pillars.
Great atmosphere.
Bit annoyed at waiter who offered me a more expensive type of wine than I originally asked for and then gave me a large glass without asking me what size I wanted...cheeky!!
Broccoli side dish was cold and we had send back, had to ask twice for water.
This restaurant has a lovely appearance and is vibrant when you walk in. Unfortunately my view is that it is more style than substance. The menu has a lot of choice but our party were not impressed with the quality of the food. I was expecting more from the reviews but sadly it fell very short of expectations.
Food and drink and service were good but marred by the fact you let a woman into eat food at the table near us with a dog in a pram...what the hell is that about? If I had known that dogs were allowed when I was eating then we would not have booked. Quite off putting watching the dog being fed from the table.
Shame...won’t be back for food.
The food is okay, it’s not brilliant, but not bad. Cocktails are good and the staff rare excellent, extremely friendly and helpful.
Had a pleasant lunch. We weren't in a rush and the staff were attentive but not intrusive.
Always reliable and definitely my first choice of restaurant in Edinburgh. If you're looking for good food, good wine and good ambience, look no further!
I've been to this restaurant several times for lunch and dinner for business and private occasions. The food is always excellent with choices to suit all appetites and the wine list is extensive with a good price range. The staff are friendly, professional and attentive without being intrusive and the noise level is comfortable enough for conversation without being too quiet. Always a great experience.
Hi always like the Refinery for lunch. It can get a bit busy and sometimes service is not that fast. However, the food, drinks and cocktails are really good and it's in a great location.
The staff were attentive and charming. The quantity of food was disappointing, for £14 we expected the Sea Bass to come with some vegetables not just on it's own swimming in sauce. The Risotto was advertised as with asparagus but we had to hunt in the rice to find tiny slithers of it and the dish lacked variety of texture, being mainly just rice as a result. Quality however was high with the Vegan options, they were discretely marked on the menu and the mushroom burger had excellent flavour with the vegan cheese being a nice touch.
Nice place, good service given how busy it was and good food. Cherry salad not very big vs other salads but all good.
Very friendly staff serving great food makes for a very pleasant experience.
Great atmosphere, the service was speedy and well-informed with just the right balance between efficiency and friendliness. Would highly recommend and would go again if back in Edinburgh
Possibly the worst vongole pasta dish. Over cooked pasta. Only two tiny cook cherry tomatoes. Clams did not look good. There was even a closed clam in my pasta dish. Surely if you see that you’d take it out on my dish.
Good place for drinks but sub standard food. Probably too many options on the menu to do a all dishes justice.
We were celebrating 4 birthdays and the arefinery was perfect for the occesion - good food - the portobello mushroom burger with rosemary Parmesan fries was delicious, the service was welcoming and friendly throughout and the upstairs table was perfect for people watching.
Excellent venue for drinks or dinner.
Our server Anna was first class.
1 slice of very thin brochette £7.50 very poor
buttermilk chicken was ruined by a thick batter it would have been nice to have some salad
Très bien une belle soirée et restaurant nouvelle génération!
We met here because the refinery has a large space for dining and it’s got a good vibe.
We sat upstairs and had a great view of St Andrews Square on a sunny day.
Perfect.
The menu caters for all and has vegetarian and vegan options.
My friend ordered the halloumi burger with a vegan roll.
The order came and it wasn’t a vegan roll,so it was changed without any fuss.
What made the visit special was the great service by Richard.
Many thanks.
We will be back!
Excellent service. Good quality food and prices. Starters, mains & drinks for 5, for £160!
I really like the Refinery for lunch. love the healthy salads, you often just get boring healthy food in most restaurants. Service was a little slow on that day and don't find the staff on entry that friendly.
I was out with friends for a birthday lunch
The service was very good and the foood was outstanding as well
Would have been good if my booking via Open-tsble had got as far as The Refinery!
Excellent restaurant in a great location. Food was really nice and the service was excellent
I really like the Refinery. I've been a few times and it's great for drinks and food. Good place for lunch. I really enjoy the salads. It's not very often you can go out to eat and get tasty healthy food that is not boring. I like it for drinks and evening too.
