We had a disappointing experience. Whilst the staff were very enthusiastic, the quality of the food was poor. A tasteless cauliflower risotto and a rather insipid fish dish. It was a shame because it was meant to be a birthday celebration. We left without trying the desserts.

Absolutely wonderful experience at the Rise Restaurant. First class service from being greated to getting the bill. Staff were very polite and friendly. The afternoon tea was delicious. Would highly recommend.

We brought my grandmother to the Rise restaurant on Monday 26th of August . We were greeted by Ian who was amazing and took my grandmother up to the restaurant with my mum. He was a lovely gentleman and a great greeter the first member of staff we met and a great brand ambassador. We were then handled handled by Lola who was outstanding, her attention to detail was marvellous. She was warm and welcoming and had the highest of standards . Our whole experience was faultless . We will be back before Christmas to see you again . We loved the sparkling English wine it was fabulous. Ian and Lola were amazing their service and hard work should be acknowledged. Thank you for a wonderful afternoon.

The service for our afternnon tea was great, the team were all really attentive and were kindly able to accommodate my mother's more unadventurous tastes by providing some more simple sandwiches for her. The desserts were divine, however, I found that the savoury options were not to my palette, I found them incredibly sweet (the beetroot jam tart actually was like a fruit jam) and overly fussy. I would have appreciated some good quality classic choices, such as a more fancy version of a mini quiche, scotch egg, sausage roll, etc. I would have been delighted with an egg or cucumber sandwich. There was a good choice of teas. I wish I had been able to see the menu before booking as I probably would not have chosen The Grand for an afternoon tea, but credit to the staff who were excellent.

Enjoyable meal and great service. The Grand is a real landmark in York; would be good to see the menu reflect some of that heritage and more local produce.
