The Rising Sun, Backwell
We feature an ever-changing specials board alongside main and bar snacks menus. Our ingredients are sourced locally wherever possible to ensure the best quality and freshness. We stock a great range of ciders, lagers and real ales and present a carefully chosen wine list to complement.
Sunday lunch was very good. The beef was tender and was served with a nice selection of vegetables and a Yorkshire pudding. Asked for extra gravy which was brought right away unlike other establishments who see to take ages. It was very tasty! Very good selection of puddings. Staff were very friendly and efficient. Good value. This was our second visit in so many weeks and we will be back.
Limited menu which didn’t excite me. Fish dish was small and “sad”.
Service and surroundings above average.
So this was a very last minute booking for Father's Day, and we did not know what to expect as we are quite a large family (there was 12 of us in total) well what can I say! We were blown away by this place. Sunday lunch was by far the best I have had in a very very long time, for me the roast potatoes are most important and they were perfect! Crispy on outside, fluffy on inside, the meat was cooked beautifully. All the Dads had steak and all said it was the best they have had, (not cheap, but you don't mind paying when you know the quality is that good) Staff very friendly and attentive and nothing was too much trouble! Thank you for accommodating us at such short notice and for doing such an amazing job! If I had one moan it would be about the peas being seasonal veg (don't like them) apart from that spot on, we will be returning for sure.
We booked our table for 4 for a Saturday evening and had booked early evening - however, there were parties of 15 and 18 in ahead of us and not enough staff to go round. We were seated at the furthest table from the bar, handed menus and promptly forgotten. Upon giving a gentle reminder we received attention and placed our order for meal and drinks. The drinks arrived with a warning there "might" be a "slight" wait for dinner because of the large parties. They weren't wrong!! The waitress returned with bread and olives by way of an apology for the wait. Dinner was very good, once it arrived. Following dinner we were given two different menus to select our dessert and "I'll be back in a minute to take your drinks and dessert order" ........ cue long wait and eventually we flagged down a passing staff member who plainly realised we were ticked by this time and comp'd our drinks/dessert. Such a shame as we'd had a brilliant meal there at Christmas but it might be a while before we go again and will DEFINITELY enquire as to whether there might be any large parties in at the same time
Excellent lunch on Saturday from the minute we walked into a very quiet Rising Sun,warmly greeted by waitress.
Our lunch 3 were delicious,4 of us enjoyed everything while we chatted.Your chef should be congratulated and all the staff we encountered were very pleasant .
Rather noisy for us and no way of shading a very bright setting sun which was in my eyes most evening. All other aspects very good.
Very busy night they could have had more staff on, heard that 3 members of staff did not turn up for work.
From the moment we walked in we were greeted with a warm hello. Offered a dink straight away, nice interior, warm and very clean. Ordered food, didn’t take long to come. Tasty and hot, staff attentive and friendly but not over the top. Will definitely return.
Much quieter than usual for a Sunday. Food was good as ever. Gluten intolerance wasnt a problem which is always nice to find.
Lovely Semi formal setting, great service food and wine, great evening.
Absolutely delicious meal this weekend. Would definitely come back again soon for another meal
Very nice food; we particularly appreciated the presence of gluten free items on the menu, which passed the test of my very sensitive coeliac husband. Thanks!
We had really good food here. We reserved a table, however even on Bank Holiday Monday it was fairly quiet. Recommended.
Not enough staff on so the wait for food was far, far, far too long. Tasted good once it arrived. Never got to puds as no one came to take our order. When I asked them if I could order he said ‘I’m serving food at the moment ‘ and walked off. Never appeared at table again. Table booked for 1pm. Mains arrived 3pm. Ruined my birthday lunch. Would not recommend this place.
Had Sunday lunch beef came with three roast potatoes a slice of carrot and a slice of parsnip a spoonful of cauliflower cheese the beef had been frozen you could tell and the Yorkshire pudding was out of a packet considering it cost £15 wAs expecting a lot better .
N coming regularly since the restaurant has been revamped. Very pleased on each occasion. As normally come at lunch time the lunch menu could do with changing more regularly. Latest change is very appreciated.
Service very poor. Drinks forgotten for at least half an hour until reminded. Food took over an hour arriving at table although good when it did arrive. No specials board on view and not mentioned when ordering our food. Only one card machine available for payment. Will not be returning.
A very busy mother’s day , staff were rushed off their feet but were trying their absolute best to see to everyone, very professional and friendly . We’ve eaten here many times the food is always a good standard.
Avery pleasant evening out. Good choice of food, well cooked and well presented. Service was attentive without being overbearing. Only issue was the noise level. That was more about the people who were there rather than the establishment.
Booked on line. Shown straight to our seat. Drinks from the bar, waitress service for food. Friendly atmosphere. One dish had undercooked (in my view) egg noodles. Replaced without question an meal not charged. Will go agin.
Everything was great. Although as we were in the bar area it was a bit noisy. I should have asked to have the music turned down, so my fault.
