The Riverbarn Ratings and Reviews
The owners of the restaurant were absolutely lovely, incredibly welcoming and charming. The menu was not large, but just packed with really tempting food - we took ages to make our choices. The food was terrific, beautifully cooked and presented. I eat out a lot, so it's hard to find a place which is excellent without being exorbitantly expensive and/or very snooty. The Riverbarn is simply a lovely place, with a lovely team who serve really interesting and excellent food - at a reasonable price. Seek them out, you won't be disappointed.
Love this place. Small, charming, family-run restaurant serving excellent food in the heart of the beautiful Wiltshire countryside. Ian and Jill are very friendly and welcoming and their sons Jonny and Tom produce magic from the kitchen. Always a wonderful experience!
The Riverbarn is a delightful old world restaurant. The welcome was warm and friendly. The service was good the food arrived hot, well presented and reasonably quickly. My guests had the fish which they said was excellent. My wife and I had the lamb, I think the haute of haute cuisine was perhaps a bit haute for us. I would have preferred a more basic meal with rather more tender meat and some fresh vegitables. I am sure others would have loved what we had and I wouldn't want to detract from the chef's obvious skills.
This was Sunday lunch so the menu was a bit restrictive apart from the two roasts, but the fish is always excellent, and this is what all four of us had. I don't think they need to compete with the local pubs for a roast dinner on Sundays as their other offerings are top class. I am always impressed by the wine list, which often features some little known, but excellent ones; we went for a reasonably priced Portuguese white which complimented the fish.
A short, sensible menu a la carte and prix fixe with just the right range of choice and food that was was distinctive, delicious and exceptional - and that was the opinion of all the diners of all three courses.
The service was impeccable with the right balance of friendliness and attentiveness without being overbearing.
Very pleasant ambience and surroundings, with ample parking.
Plan to make it a regular destination.
We love The Riverbarn. The food is excellent and always cooked and presented to perfection. The owners are always very friendly and courteous, and the ambience is relaxed and homely.
We use The Riverbarn as our regular venue for meeting with ours friends, and it would be very difficult to better it.
A quality restaurant. Very quiet the evening we visited which actually suited us. A small restaurant which you'll almost certainly have to drive to, plenty of parking. Beautiful location and evidence you can sit outside on a nice day. Service and food top rate. A prix fix and a la carte menu means you can try and keep the final bill in check but the wine might just blow that - and let it :) Also, a splendid choice of gins - a shame for the driver. The food is really good, definitely worth doing three courses. They look to have a tasting menu special on some nights - I'd love to try it. Service is great too - the guy knew all about the local area and its stories and knew exactly the right amount of attention each table needed. Certainly a cut above most in the area I suspect a worth it for any special occasion. Highly recommended.
