The Riverside at Aymestrey
Authentic and atmospheric, the 16th century black and white building is surrounded by the natural beauty of the River Lugg valley. A small and lovely village with lovely people completes the setting.

We love it here. Always fantastic food and good service.
Despite being a cool day we were sheltered from the breeze and the sun shone. Food and service excellent looking forward to when we can dine inside.
Drank and ate here during a short weekend break at Aymestry. There is plenty of outdoor seating set up both on the garden and courtyard and the river side. Fantastic food and a good selection of drink at reasonable prices, with very friendly staff. The cutlery wasnt very sharp, but it was antique made in sheffield cutlery so it was a nice touch. Definitely recommended for a quiet drink by the river or for a high quality meal out
Usual excellent food which we have come to expect from the Riverside. Good first experience after lockdown of outdoor eating.
We visited the Riverside Inn when Covid regulations only allowed outside dining. Despite the chilly April weather, we were made welcome, the food was excellent and the service friendly and efficient. We have dined here in better times when we were able to eat inside the pub which has a friendly atmosphere and definitely deserves the great reviews and recommendations that it receives.
We came to The Riverside Arms for our first restaurant meal since we came out of lock-down and it was totally delicious. It made us forget of the cold weather and wind. Home cured trout with a wonderful cider and fennel bread with a superb whipped herb butter for two, I had chicken breast with grain on the skin, suberbly moist with crisp skin, sweetcorn puree, wonderful potatoes and carrots, locally foraged wild garlic. Nick had perfect hake with pea puree and foraged herbs in the sauce. We both finished with the memorable Savarin which we had on our last restaurant trip in the autumn. Just wonderful and well worth our hour journey . The staff managed so well with diners on three levels and must be getting very fit, the service was faultless, thank you, we will be back
Enjoyable Sunday lunch. First visit to the Riverside and not disappointed. Starters were great (trout and wild mushroom soup), beef roast was moderately good and Monkland blue cheese, pear and ice cream dessert was lovely! Will be back!
Very friendly service, with a lovely spot by the river. Tasty menu of sustainable produce.
Absolutely delicious Sauvignon blanc!
Delicious food, lovely atmosphere, attentive and professional staff
Lovely outside venue in good weather. Limited menu but still good choices. Had three courses with the desert being the star. Relaxed atmosphere with helpful friendly staff. Appeared to be dog friendly which is normally a big bonus for us.
We went for my wife's birthday: the food and service were outstanding, my pint was perfect and it all made for a very special experience.
A very welcoming Riverside pub. Lovely location, a warm welcome and food was good. Very dog friendly!
Midweek lunch for Wife’s Birthday, had to eat on terrace due to current restrictions . 1st visit . Food absolutely superb, and varied choice, efficient friendly service . Can’t wait to go back when the main building re - opens to get the full experience .Highly recommend.
Stunning setting. Very welcoming. Excellent service and delicious food and wine. A memorable evening
First time here, stunning venue great views and amazing food and service.
Will definitely be back!
It was my birthday lunch,so it was a special day.The service was perfect,a warm welcome.Great atmosphere in the lovely courtyard. The food was beautifully presented and absolutely delicious. They even presented me with a birthday dessert.
I can't wait to go back.
Lovely meal as ever and our first since lockdown easing. Despite being outside the weather was kind and the courtyard created enough atmosphere to make it a very enjoyable lunch.
The food was good but that was about all. We had our slot booked and it took 40mins for someone to take our food order and then it was another 50mins for our steak to arrive. Being outside seating only, 90mins was unacceptable. When we asked why the chap said because some other people had turned up earlier than they booked. So they should have been told to wait. They allow dogs and there was a little yappy thing barking the whole time we were there, not great when having an expensive meal in the country. No one said anything to the people with the dog. If local will be going to the Oak at Wigmore next time as that place is amazing for similar price.
Beautifully appointed traditional riverside pub, excellent staff, friendly, efficient and BEAUTIFUL food. Johnson and co of course cannot wait to put places like this out of business.
Excellent food, great staff, lovely property and a very good atmosphere considering the circumstances.
Having visited the Riverside many times before I was very disappointed. Not withstanding the Covid issues, we found the staff very disinterested is providing a decent service level. Food was just OK. We have no plans to return.
As usual very good food. Menu a bit limited but considering the difficulties of COVID restrictions The Riverside is doing a grand job.
Our last meal out before my partner commences Chemotherapy.
Just wanted somewhere local & atmospheric before his treatment begins.
We love our suppers out & now with the pandemic escalating we will dine at home from now on.
We are regulars at The Riverside & always have good food & wine.
Looking forward to returning in the spring all being well.
A delicious meal in a cosy pub. Brilliant covid measures put in place
The food and service was second to none as always. Thank you for a lovely meal x
Fresh tasting, well-cooked comfort food served in a relaxed atmosphere. Cheerful staff. Lovely surroundings.
Felt very safe in current. situation. Quiet so ambience inevitably missing but feeling safe compensated. Have visited several times with small and large parties and always been happy with interesting well cooked food and good service.
Had a great stay here in one of their garden rooms, beautifully appointed and then dinner in the restaurant which was absolutely gorgeous
Outstanding meal and service. Lovely quaint little pub
Superb meal and a restaurant that absolutely deserves its Slow Food in the UK Award for best restaurant in England!
Not sure how anything could be improved. Stunning location, warm and welcoming, great service and food to die for, perfect!
Glad to say service at The Riverside is back to its usual high standard. Everything to recommend here and nothing to fault. Hope to be back again before Christmas.
The food was delicious. My only minor moan is that the food could have been a bit hotter.
Small menu, which is a good sign of freshly cooked food, with a reasonable choice. Slow cooked beef & chocolate desert excellent
Lovely food as always. The braised beef is to die for. Never disappoints, when so many restaurants have cut back because of Covid.
Food is always really good whatever you order. Staff very polite and efficient. Always a nice atmosphere even visiting with Covid 19 restrictions, as a customer I felt very safe and staff were very professional.
We felt extremely safe and well cared for regarding covid hygiene /social distancing rules. The staff were lovely and very efficient. We adored the ambience and the food was beautiful. A lovely experience.
An excellent venue which we look forward to using again when the weather allows use of the riverside walk. Excellent proactive communication to deal with the difficulties of covid restrictions. A booking confirmation that confirmed that our wish to bring our dog, as requested with the online booking, was acceptable would have saved a 'phone call to check.
Thank you for a very pleasant lunch.
The welcome and subsequent service was very warm and friendly.
The menu choice in these COVID times was sufficient and well balanced and the well priced wine list offered more than an adequate choice.
The food was well presented and cooked. I thought the Barley Risotto starter, with local herbs, was outstanding. The pigs cheek was also good. The artichoke crisps with truffle mayo dip (called a snack) needed more mayo when used as a sharing pre-starter.
We had main courses of Hake and also Chicken, both of which were enjoyable.
We did not have desserts.
We would recommend the restaurant (indeed, have already done so) and would come again.
We had a lovely meal here- the pub has beautiful views & our family of five were very well looked after. The short menu was full of locally sourced seasonal food - which was delicious. We managed the pub walk afterwards which was beautiful.
