The Rock Wood Fired Kitchen - Queen Anne Ratings and Reviews
We had tickets for a show at McCaw Hall and we were travelling from quite a distance away, we hit traffic that delayed us almost an hour and were in a panic we would starve. We made our reservation just in case to secure a table and called ahead to place our order. We got there and they had placed our order, had a table waiting, and took our drink order right away. They were fantastic, the manager took care of us and made us feel like royalty! The food was perfect, we were actually able to relax for a bit and made it in time for the show! Have not had that type of service ever!!
We were headed to a show at McCaw Hall, the food and drink was great. In addition, my wife left her cel phone and they contacted us and told us not to worry we could pick it up after the show. We loved the show, picked up the phone and had a great evening! Thanks Rock Grill and thank you to the man that served us and saved the day - we will be back soon!
When we arrived, it was very, very crowded, as I knew it would be on a sunny weekend at Seattle Center. When we told the maitre'd we had reservations, he said that he couldn't get the reservation up on his tablet so he would take our names and we would just have to wait. We were going to see a concert later so our time was limited, which was why I made a reservation in the first place. Once we got seated, the service was a little slow. Not to fault our waiter, he did his best considering the place was so full. I think they were slightly understaffed. The food was excellent... great pizza, lots of delicious toppings with a chewy crust. My mediterranean salad was also very good, no stinting on the chicken and other toppings. It wasn't just lettuce topped with a cherry tomato and an olive. I imagine the atmosphere would have been better on a less busy night.
Food is good. Service in the bar area is not very good. One server for 14 tables in the bar area. She was going as fast as possible. She needed help, but appeared to be the only server for the bar area. Management seems to lack concern for service in the bar area.
Great service by a seasoned pro. Extremely attentive and on point. Burger was good, just a tad medium for my medium rare preference. Sat next to the kitchen which was a little noisy. Overall, nice atmosphere and food, and great service. And they say us right on time for a busy evening.
We've had the Pizza before and it was very good. This time both my wife and myself ordered burgers at lunch. They both were so overcooked that they were tasteless and almost too dry to swallow. We should have known when our server didn't ask us how we would like them cooked.
The pizza was excellent, as was the garlic mozzarella bread appetizer. Our waiter was very gracious - we never ran out of beverages. However, the Oscars were on the night we were there, and the manager wouldn't change the tv by our table so that we could watch them. Mind you, it was a Sunday night, and there were maybe 3 or 4 other people in the place, so NOBODY would have cared. But he said it's corporate policy, and he could get in big trouble if a boss walked in and a tv wasn't on sports. That's the dumbest corporate policy I've ever heard of. I could understand if it was in the middle of the Sweet 16 or the Superbowl, but NO ONE was watching the tv's and we just asked to change the one right next to our table!!! Lame!! And bad customer service from corporate!!!
Food was good. Beer was cold. Service was good until another group of diners arrived. Our server spent the majority of his time joking and providing entertainment to the larger group. We understood he was trying to make the most of tip opportunities at a rather slow time in the bar area, but we had to ask others to replenish our drinks and bring us extra napkins because our server was more involved with another table.
I should have listened to the reviews. This place is dismal, yet seems to be busy every Saturday night. I guess there isn't enough competition in the area. This pizza place is part of the hotel Maxwell, maybe that's where it gets most clientele. We had a reservation but arrived early and were asked to get a drink at the bar, or at the hotel bar next door, as they won't seat us until the time of our reservation. That was perfectly fine. Once we were seated (on time) we were given menus and water but had to wait a long time to order and then even longer to get our food. Both the host and our server told us we should order what takes the least amount of time - drinks from the bar, salads and appetizers that do not need to go into the oven. Ominous sign. Nevertheless, we ordered garlic cheese bread and pizza to share. Plus draft beer and a cocktail. Everything took a long time and was quite disappointing, apart from the beer. The pizza was the "speciality" Stairway to Heaven, which was supposed to consist of "prosciutto, Mozzarella cheese, baby arugula, tomatoes, Parmesan cheese, Romano cheese, garlic butter, extra virgin olive oil". In fact, it had very little of anything except arugula. It should have been named Arugula pizza, that's all there was. The garlic cheese bread was basically the same exact thing without the arugula, and it came with two dips (out of plastic, store-bought pots). Service was terrible, our server had a bit of an attitude which did not suit him. I would never come back here.
My food was terrible. Service was ok. We ordered chicken tenders and nachos as the appetizers. The chicken was so over cooked it was hard and couldn't be eaten. The nachos came out with no black beans as described and the guacamole was already oxidized to a brown color. I was so incredibly disappointed. The pizza was ok but nothing special. Loved the hotel but will never dine here again.
The restaurant is attached to a hotel. The handicapped entrance is only through the hotel, but there is no sign stating that; just some stairs going down. The stairway smells like it has not been cleaned in a while, a lingering, unpleasant smell. My husband and I went the Sunday evening before Presidents' Day. There were only 2 servers working and the restaurant was fairly busy. Our waiter may have been new. He wandered, sometimes aimlessly, looking busy but not doing anything productive. I waited 20 minutes for my beer before getting the server's attention to cancel it. Directly after that, someone from the bar (perhaps the manager, if so he did not introduce himself) brought the beer. I told him I cancelled because I had waited 20 minutes. To his credit, after thinking about it, he offered to take it off the bill. My husband got one refill of his drink the entire time we were there. The service was completely awful. That said, the food was excellent. If you have a couple of hours to go sit and no expectations about service, I would recommend it. If you order take out, expect to stand for 20 minutes before they acknowledge you (I saw this happen several times.) The menu is pretty large so we didn't taste everything, but, again, the food was great. Don't expect true wood fired taste, but it still tastes good. You just have to decide if it's worth waiting for. I won't go again.
Food was great but they massively overbooked so that the table we reserved for 6:15 was not ready until 6:45 and despite the best intentions of our overworked waitress our food din't come until 7:30, which meant rushing through our meal so we could leave at 7:45 for our show. They claimed that people were taking more time they thought, but they are experienced restaurant managers and should have known better how to plan their reservations. Sadly, my association with them is a belly uncomfortably full of gobbled pizza, albeit very tasty.
Took awhile to get a table even with reservations. Ordered relatively quick . 40 minutes for our chips and salsa appetizer to show up, another 20 mins for our food which some was wrong and had to be sent back. By the time it came we had to leave to catch our show. By the unprofessional way the staff acted seems like a normal day, even the manager was overwhelmed and no help. Horrible place
Arrived early 5:15 and was seated. Asked 3 times for the waiter to bring us water and 1/2 hour later finally got water and quickly ordered appetizer and food. Got the appetizer fairly quick and finally first round of drinks and decided to put a 2nd order in due to how long it took. Finally about 6:30 asked about our food because it had been a long time and the waiter went to go check on it and said that the kitchen hasn't started our order (1 meatball sandwich) he said they were too busy making pizza's. We had a concert to go to so no time to wait any longer. We settled on a house salad (which he did comp) but I was pretty upset. To be there for that long and leave the restaurant hungry is unbelievable. I know the bar was busy, but they were only taking people in the restaurant with a reservation so you would think that they would take care of those tables. Not sure if it was the waiter who was lazy, but this was not ok. They had an hour 1/2 to take care of us..........leaving hungry before a 3 hour show.....NOT OK!
Everything was awful from the point we walked in the door. We had a party of 6 so I made a reservation online. We waited and waited at the front to check in..we were constantly ignored by every waiter that went by us. We finally flagged someone and they said.."yeah, we really don't have a hostess". No apologies. I can accept you don't have a hostess but if that's the case, you shouldn't take online reservations. We also shouldn't have been ignored for that long either. When we were finally seated, we had to ask for water, to order and in the end utensils to eat with. The food was terrible as well. SO SO BAD.
Terrible experience. Took 4 minutes to be greeted at host stand, didn't have my reservation, server came to table immediately after we sat down, we let him know we needed a few minutes with the drink menu. He never came back. 10 minutes later Another server took our order and it took over 15 minutes before all drinks arrived. Server brought appetizers and we did not have any silverware- when we asked we were told they were out and we were brought plastic instead. Had to ask for napkins separately. We were done with our starters at least 15 minutes when the server asked if we were waiting on anything. He returned to our table with our pizza and told us he hadn't seen it because someone placed a cardboard box over it. We had to ask for paper plates separately because they were not brought with the pizza. At no point was anything bussed from our table. It also took forever to get the check and then for the server to pick up the check. It was a total sh** show- I would not recommend this place to anyone.
Showed up 15 minutes before our scheduled reservation I had made one month prior, was standing there waiting until 10 minutes past our reservation time only to be told by staff that the wait would be another 45 minutes. Proceeded across the street to another restaurant where we were seated within 5 minutes and ordered+ate+finished our meal before we would have even be seated at the rock. I guess reservations don't mean anything to them.
This was truly one of the worst "dining" experiences I've had. We went here for drinks and dinner and to meet some friends before a show at the Key Arena. The waitstaff seemed much more interested in chatting with each other than their guests. It took forever to get drinks and food. This is supposed to be a pizza place and my pizza totally sucked.
There is a Rock Pizza down in Vancouver, WA where I live, and it's fine. I think whoever is managing this location has some serious work to do to improve the situation. I will not go back to this place again.
