Such a lovely country pub. Get the pie, it’s amazing.
Very pleasant surroundings, good service and food.
I had a quite soggy prawn Marie sandwich which quickly fell to pieces.A prawn open sandwich would have looked more appealing and been easier to eat.
Lovely traditional country pub, warm and welcoming.
We had a very good Sunday Lunch here and I can thoroughly recommend this pub.
Very enjoyable evening. Good food ,friendly staffAnd very dog friendly
Following a lovely autumn afternoon's walk in Teesdale, the sight of a table next to an open fire is always an enticing one. This particular historic fireplace even has carvings of the pub name. Well deserving of its reputation, this is a lovely comfortable friendly pub with high quality food. The delicious sea bass was a sizeable portion, more of the delicious accompanying vegetables would have been better, but this is a minor gripe as the food was mouth watering. A more interesting selection of real ales would have been preferred, but the Black Sheep was in excellent condition.
A gem of a pub
We really enjoyed our visit to The Rose and Crown. The staff were exceptional ,even offered a warm blanket for our dog.The meal of fish and chips was one of the best I've had. Everywhere was very Covid safe starting with hand sanitiser at the door. Track and trace and masks worn by everyone .We felt very safe and look forward to returning.
Food and service 1st class, locally produced ingredients.
We will be returning.
Lovely pub. The food was excellent and love how it’s all sourced locally. The service was excellent too! We will certainly return to have an evening meal in the restaurant, we ate in the pub as had our dog with us but will look to return and stay in one of your lovely rooms.
Classic unpretentious English food and excellent service. Social distancing etc fully observed.
Lovely pub in a great location. The food was really good and the staff were really friendly and efficient.
Fantastic meal , beautifully cooked and presented. Excellent value for a unique meal.
Set in the lovely village of Romaldkirk in Teesdale, this village inn is great for a couple of days away with the extra benefit of amazing food and service
Lovely food, friendly, professional, helpful staff. Nice ambience. Even brought a cushion for our dog to lie on. Very good experience. Can’t fault it.
Wonderful food. Vegetarian options were good, no vegan but that was ok for us. I had nectarine goats cheese and walnut salad followed by the aubergine stuffed with ratatouille and mozzarella with Panacotta with berries and almond crumb. Husband had prawn cocktail, followed by beef bourgnion pie and sticky toffee pudding. All courses we excellent. Service was great and felt really safe. Must book.
Lovely ambiance, good control of social distancing, lovely food, though not great choice for vegetarians.
A warm welcome. Ate in bar very comfortable well spaced out. Food excellent. Well looked after, hope to return soon
Called for lunch on Sunday, had prebooked, was hoping for roast chicken but happy to have fish, vegetables very tasty in deed, partner had the sausages, which he thoroughly enjoyed.
Lovely ambiance, great service, facilities spotless.
We’ll be back.
A lovely relaxed lunch with my husband. Excellent food and friendly service
Delicious food. Especially deserts. 😋would definitely recommend. Very friendly and helpful staff. 👍🏻
Great food friendly service and a lovely atmosphere....definitely recommend this restaurant.
Hardly surprising that this Pub won its category in thev2020 Pub of the year Awards and with brilliant service and excellent food to match.
Lovely lunch, perfectly cooked and staff were very efficient and attentive. All Covid measures in place so felt very comfortable.
We went to celebrate a birthday. It was set in lovely surroundings even when raining. Would definitely recommend it.
The food was very tasty - service was ok because there was confusion with dietary requirements as two of our party are coeliacs. For example. After establishing I was coeliac and asking for croutons to be removed from the soup, the soup arrived with The croutons, (I removed them and the soup was tasty)
Good freshly prepared food, drinks on the expensive side. Very good, friendly staff. Dog friendly in the bar which was a plus for us personally
We had a wonderful dinner at the Rose & Crown. The food was fantastic. The meat and cheese sharing platter for two is a lovely way to start a nice dinner for a couple. The trio of lamb was delicious, the slow cooked element being particularly special. The beef bourguignon pie on mash potato was as fantastic as it sounds. The sticky toffee pudding with dark syrup flavour was a treat. The chessboard with cake still makes me smile. The service was friendly and very helpful. Lovely atmosphere even in these difficult times. You have to try it.
Fantastic place, food was beautiful and great that the EOTHO offer was on. Would be a bit pricey otherwise but still worth it for the quality of the food and overall service and atmosphere
Beautiful setting and relaxing dining experience. Catereed for both of us as well as our puppy! Food was amazing cannot wait to return
Lovely food, reasonably priced great place would highly recommend.
Quality establishment with an excellent menu . Service attentive and friendly without being intrusive . Great Fish and Chips. Thanks
Really authentic old inn with modern food. Very comfortable with excellent service. Although there was an excellent selection of Sunday Roasts, an optional less traditional a la carte choice would have been appreciated. Would definitely recommend to others and will come again. Worth a special trip (we came from Northumberland).
Very friendly staff, food was excellent as was the service.
Would visit again.
limited but quality menu. Lovely food, and good service.
Feels modern but cosy. The beautifully varnished wood gives a warmth and welcome. I loved that their values for food sourcing and environmental impact were visible. The food in general was very good. A couple of little hiccoughs but as we were there in between Christians and new year standards were high and a full menu provided. Service was a bit slow at the end bit we weren’t in a rush. Can’t comment on the quality of the drink as we don’t but was nice to share my ginger beer appleltiser ‘cocktail’ with them as that’s where I first discovered it over 30 years ago. We came here as a nostalgia trip - I worked here on an off for about 7 years during schools and uni so it was a real pleasure to ‘come back home’.
Fantastic food and great service. The specials were particularly enjoyed by us. The Korean chicken starter being "10/10" to my partner.
The room was unbearably hot and 6 of us had been squeezed onto a tiny little bar table only suitable for 2 persons. There was nowhere to put glasses or veg and it was a struggle to actually fit the plates on the table. We had reserved a table in advance. The soup was ok, the beetroot cured salmon was ok, my family enjoyed their roast dinners apart from the beef being stone cold, probably a result of the plates being cold. I had the vegetable curry and can honestly say it was by far the worst curry I’ve ever had. It tasted like flour and curry powder mixed into water. No culinary skill at all, made by someone who has no idea in how to make a curry. The vegetables were too large for the dish - huge stalks of broccoli, big chunks of carrot and large mushrooms - and that was it! It was truly awful. We’ve had outstanding food at this pub many times over the last 20 years but based on our last experience we won’t be returning, which is very sad after visiting for so many years
Food was absolutely excellent, the restaurant I’d beautiful. Typically English in every way, an absolute joy.
The Rose & Crown is situated in a very picturesque village in Teesdale. We were given a warm welcome and helped in with my father who is a wheelchair user. Gorgeous real fire in the pub area, good choice of ales and the food was delicious and well presented. Very friendly atmosphere and well behaved dogs welcome. Can't wait to go back.
Sorry to say lunch was not up to previous lunches we have had here
