   All good. Menu needs to change more often. Prices seem a bit high now. Lemon Posset amazing, pie superb, mackerel pate fab. Gas fire on which was a bit unnecessary. They’ve gone to a service charge ( yuck) but make clear it is optional unlike most, the thing is your ten pound tip now goes in as pay and you lose half to bloody sissy Sunak through NI, employers NI and tax. Will leave cash on table instead next time as usual. Just small things but overall fantastic as usual.

   Lovely country hotel in a nice village. Food is excellent and sometimes very busy due to its popularity so better to book it just for food. Lunch menu is a bit limited for light snacks.

   The pub is so pretty and the staff were so friendly. We had a delicious 3 course lunch and sat outside in the sun for drinks after overlooking the quiet country village. I’m glad we booked as it was busy and I can see why. Can’t wait to come back!

    Loved it! The dogs were made to feel welcome, staff were lovely and food was amazing! Not surprising though as you are connected to Headlam hall which we equally love!

    Lovely olde worlde bar/eating area with another room at side both dog friendly- they even provide sheepskin rugs and treats for the woofers. Quiet dog free old fashioned dining room. Food was suberb. We come here at least once a year to eat if not to stay as well. Not cheap but about MPW prices. Food this time was best ever

    The food here was amazing so much so that we ate there 2 or 3 times during our stay in the village, the staff were so Obliging, we had 2 dogs with us and they made sure that they too were well looked after, overall a lovely experience on all occasions

    Proper country pub, great local people who along with the staff were very welcoming, food good flavour well cooked and presented, beer well kept. The most dog friendly pub ever including a sheepskin rug for ours to sit on. Highly recommend.

    Whilst this is an excellent pub and the food is very good, adding 10% service charge to the bill for very little is really taking things to the extreme. We ordered at the and paid at the bar, food and drink was brought to the table, hardly top end service. Left a sour note, may stop me going back or providing recommendations.

    Disappointing. Table set for 2 when we arrived despite booking for 4. Starter dry and lacking a dressing. Fish main course dry and overcooked. I expect more when paying so much. Got the impression they don't care.

    We have visited here a few times as my parents have a cottage nearby, my partner said it is the best food he has ever had and orders the same meal every time because he enjoys it so much. Lovely place, very welcoming and friendly staff, would (and have) recommend to anyone. Thankyou Emma

    Incredible food in a lovely setting. The venison pie and hog roast sausages were amazing and the chips are probably the best I’ve ever had. Can’t wait to go back!

    We visited for dinner on Saturday 05 Feb 22 the service and food were exceptional - we eat out a lot and this was by far the best food we have had in a long time. The only (very minor) grumble was that we were seated in the bar area by the door - hence the lower score for "ambiance". We spotted a very nice dining room but (as you would expect) it is reserved for residents in the first instance. We would definitely return, requesting a table in the dining room if it's not too busy.

    Excellent pub, with a lovely atmosphere. Food is very good if a little limited and only a minor observation, the menu has not changed since our first visit about 3 years ago. Lager appears to be £6.00 a pint which is a little on the high side. Will not stop us going back.

    The menu choice was poor. It seemed that they were using up food before the new year closure. Too many menu items with black pudding! Some of the waitresses were rather surly and unhelpful. The Rose and Crown has never been like this before!
