Good food in a good pub with good beer and good service. What more could one look for.
Pub with lots of character and friendly staff. Had a lovely meal with friends on a quiet Saturday lunchtime. Food is cooked to order so a bit of a wait but well worth it. Don't know how it is when busy. We would all definitely visit again.
Lovely roast dinner - in friendly, family, dog-friendly pub - but where we were sitting was very cold (had to keep my coat on). Unfortunately, there were some very young children on the next table whose parents did not manage to stop them screaming and banging cutlery on the table. Food and service were very good though.
Lovely helpful staff and a very dog friendly pub on the main road with some parking and a large rear garden. Food was pub grub and not pretending to be anything else, which I appreciated. The prices were reasonable and the food was good rather than very good. But the atmosphere was cold and gloomy on a grey damp day. The chimneys had not been swept and an open fire will obviously transform the place in winter but there was no excuse to not have central heating on. Everyone was eating in their jackets. So that was not good.
Nice atmosphere, food is always good and value for money. I would recommend this pub having been a few times
Food great, staff great, atmosphere great overall great value for money, great
Lovely meal and fab service. The pork and leek sausages were particularly good. Desserts were delicious- I advise the ‘small’ crumble. It was delicious and a good size.
Excellent pub meal. Just what you would expect. Fantastic pub fare, good beer and friendly service!
A lovely place to meet friends (7 of us), a comprehensive menu and good to see some choices had smaller portions offered.
Very quiet on a Monday evening, and nice to sit on a round table so that we could all chat to each other.
The service was superb and the food good.
If you want a quick meal it’s not the place for you. If you want a relaxed evening and are happy to wait for your food to be freshly cooked the n go here.
Warm friendly welcome. Served promptly and a good menu selection.
Warm welcome on arrival. Friendly staff good, tasty food and value for money.
Have been several times now and each time the service was very attentive the food very good and just enough price in keeping with the area about £20 per head with a couple of drinks plus main meal.Would go again.
We use to come a few years ago and always had great food and service .
I had booked for a table of 5 for my mothers Bithday and to celebrate our son and daughter in laws first baby due in a couple of weeks .
The pub was basically empty but it took 45 mins for starters to arrive which were average at best then had another long wait till the mains came out , where do I start
My wife had the Scampi which was deep fried to death and very few hard and dry chips .
I had the sirloin steak supposedly cooked as medium rare but was more like extra well done with half a shrivelled tomato , two burnt onion rings and dry chips .
My mother and daughter in law had the Lamb Rump from the specials board , but the lamb was so tough neither of them could chew it and had to use a steak knife to cut it .
My son had a steak pie which was the only main which looked and tasted ok .
Service was very slow and and meal should not of taken so long as kitchen was not busy .
So overall very disappointed , food was terrible and would never go back or recommend this place again . And definately not worth the £120 cost for 2 starters and 5 mains and 2 puddings , the price is not an issue if the food and service matched it .
Score 1 out of 10 at best
We booked a table for 10 for the Farnham Ramblers. A few extra turned up but we managed to squeeze them all in.
The staff were very friendly and let us book individually.
We will certainly be booking here again.
Great steak, great roast dinner and very welcoming friendly staff.
Great restaurant in cosy surroundings, it was Wednesday steak night when
we went so very good value delicious steak though rather a small amount
of sauce. Only downside was the vegetables, which
were almost raw and very hard going. They apparently cook them "al dente"
but these were extreme! Worth a mention when ordering.
Lovely old pub with cosy atmosphere. Good pub grub and service.
Good traditional pub - sunday roast was tasty with and a good portion. Friendly and welcoming staff.
Perfect for relaxed family Sunday roast. Certainly not a bistro pub or at all smart but doesn’t pretend to be. Was very welcoming and pleasantly full with a good atmosphere. Delicious roast beef cooked to everyone’s preference, fabulous Yorkshire’s, crunchy veg and potatoes, super staff, very friendly and great value. We will visit again.
Waiting service were very helpful, friendly and polite, food was very good and served hot.
Not very happy about customer dogs being allowed where the eating tables were.
Met up with our friends again at this lovely bar/restaurant. The staff are incredibly friendly and accommodating. Menu is varied and the food is always good.
Be prepared to wait for your food. This allows time for conversation. It is a Pub,staff pleasant and attentive.Sunday Roast was good as was sweet.
Very good overall meal, nice place and staff were very helpful. Wait for food was longer than expected but it was Sunday lunchtime and restaurant was busy.
Really good food & drinks service in a good traditional local pub
As always, great food served with a smile in a warm homely atmosphere.
This is the second time we have been here and the food was just as good as the first time. Lots of choice, sat by a lovely open fire. Very friendly staff.
Great food, great service, great beer. The vegetarian selection is far better than some other pubs in the area.
We wanted a pub that wasn't a chain and was central for all those attending to meet up for a pre Xmas lunch. I chose The Royal Oak based on Trip advisor reviews. The pub has old beams, open fires and wooden floors, there were locals at the bar enjoying a tipple. We were placed at the end of the restaurant with a table of 8, including 3 children. All ordered from the main menu and were very impressed by the food. The chicken/tarragon pie could have benefited from a bit more sauce but that is really being very picky as it was so nice. The kids had the usual fair and ate all their meals. The cheesecake was superb. Overall not a bad price either considering the quality and what was served. Service was also very attentive and we were made to feel welcome. Would use again and recommend. There appeared to be enough parking at the front and there is a beer garden should the weather allow. Dogs are also welcome but they do keep them away from the dining area.
The meal would have been great if it had been hot. Only the meal and potatoes were adequately hot and no effort had been made to warm rhe plates, so eveb the meat cooled down quickly. It was such a pity as it coulld have been a lovely meal.
NOT THE FIRST TIME TO HAVE HAD LUNCH AT THE ROYAL OAK.
ALWAYS FRIENDLY WITH GOOD SERVICE AND EXCELLENT MENU
PROVIDING VERY ENJOYABLE AND WELL COOKED MEALS.
Good Sunday roast - was well cooked, vegetables and potatoes cooked to perfection. Really good veggie options and rest of the menu looked good. Liked how it was clearly homemade and brownie for pudding was delicious. There were a lot of large parties and families which meant it was very loud.
Very friendly, excellent service, staff very polite and friendly. We have visited on numerous occasions and the friendliness of the staff never changes. Sunday lunch very good value.
We recently had a family Sunday lunch (four adults, three children under 8 and a dog!) at The Royal Oak.
The moment we arrived we were warmly greeted by the members of staff and this friendly attitude continued through the very good service. The food was tasty and of good value.
The pub is ideally located if you want somewhere to eat before going for a walk nearby.
I would recommend!
The food was ok but no more than that. The rate price- quality was ok. However the environment was not very sosy.
We were meeting with friends here as it was a central location which I picked randomly online. The food was lovely but the portions far too small for the price. None of us are big eaters so it was a little disappointing although we did enjoy what there was. I don't think I will go again but I wouldn't discourage anyone from going.
We stayed in Farnham for a couple of nights for a family wedding, we had a lazy day Sunday so went out late, the Royal Oak severed Dinners till late so we had a drive up and it was worth it, The staff were so friendly and helpful and we felt comfortable straight away . The Sunday Dinners were fantastic all fresh vegetables and all freshly cooked . The sticky toffee pudding was to die for and the price was really reasonable. We stayed for the quiz which was really good fun . A big thank you to the two girls on the bar and the lady in the Kitchen on Sunday Night . It was a great way to end our weekend. If you are ever in Farnham this little gem is a must.
Food was enjoyable, however pub was very cold and not much atmosphere. Athough we booked a table for 2pm for 6 people, after our plates were taken following our mains, we were told we would be unable to order pudding as the chef had gone home!! This could have been mentioned before we ordered! Second round of drinks, we had one missing too!
We have been here three times now and have enjoyed our meal each time. Something went wrong with the booking this time because I thought I had booked Sunday 3rd September and when I got home I looked at the confirmation and it was for the Monday 4th. This may have been my mistake. If so, I apologise. Overall this pub has nice food, friendly and efficient service and reasonable value for money and the ambiance is nice and relaxed.
I had booked a table for 20:00hrs to meet an old friend.
When I got there I explained I was not as hungry as I would like to be and just ordered pub snack food.
I noticed though that the customers who were ordering normal meals were fussed on alot more.
I was never asked, how was the food and is there anything else I can get you?
Spur of the moment booking at a location not previously tried. Really pleased we did! With a comfortable and traditional pub ambience (and nice beer garden!) and very attentive and happy staff, this was well worth the effort.
Menu was focused (decent amount of choice but not too much!) and the meals were perfectly cooked.
All round highly recommended if you want good pub food served in a nice and quiet location.
