Brilliant service, so kind, chef came out and said hello, lovely afternoon
Lovely Sunday lunch, delicious food.
My only very minor criticism would be the chairs weren't very comfy. Definitely wouldn't put me off going back though!
We visited last year whilst on holiday and LOVED it! Had a fantastic atmosphere, all tables booked, brilliant chef, good selection of local fish and high standard of food.
So, we had high expectations, which were sadly dashed on arrival.
On arrival we were kept waiting for 10 minutes before any acknowledgment. Then despite pre-booking on 30/7/21 for a table 19/9/21 there was confusion over the booking and our table had been given to others.
Waited again for table to be prepped then sat unattended for another 10 minutes waiting for menus.
Didn’t feel warmly welcomed.
Asked what we wanted only having had sight of menus for a few minutes so ordered the wine. Only 3 reds to choose from.
Hardly anything on the blackboard and paper printed menu.
Order taken but noted there was no sea bass to share like before.
Ordered 1 Mackerel and 2 x sea bass and very disappointed at size. Last year around £29 for a MASSIVE sea bass or 2. This year was £27 for one tiny fillet cut in half. Menu said it would be served with dauphinois potatoes and veg so we’re expecting 3 portions of each but were severed only one! We asked for more!
Waitress was reluctant to give us more veg when I queried is this veg for 3?! She brought out a second lot but veg was cut into huge chunks and leek was raw, carrots looked like they’d been pre-chewed.
Veg was cold and served in cold dishes. Some of the Dauphinois had been scrapped from the bottom of dish as black and inedible.
No one checked to ask if we were happy with our meals.
Table was rustic which is lovely but had huge gaps between the planks and old food and detritus wedged in. Should have been cleaned and filled with wood filler. Table top was not cleaned and was very sticky. Not pleasant.
Bill was £40 more than last year for half the food so very expensive for what we got.
Very disappointed and won’t be returning. Off to the Pink Goat in Corfe for next year instead!
Delicious scallops and sous vide beef, awesome local Dorset wine and amazing service from Debs. Would highly recommend this restaurant.
The food was tasty, but everything was cold. We had the pulled pork and the steak. The potatoes, veg and meat were all cold and served on cold plates and dishes.
Lovely venue great found, well presented, very tasty, very good value and great service. Love the fact it's all locally sourced produce.
Food and service are fantastic very popular so book for Thursday Friday and Saturday dinner
Amazing food and relaxed, friendly service. Would definitely recommend
Excellent meal, friendly staff & really good value. What's not to like?
Good service and food, great ambience. Not a lot of fish in the seafood linguini, which2as rather ouly, but the pork was good.
Good food. Friendly staff. Pleasant decor. A nice querky restaurant.
Would recommend others to go along :)
Special meal while away for a few days with my husband. Great flavours, such care with preparation (we could see this as we were seated near the bar) and ingenious combinations. Excellent service and good value for money. Book way ahead; they are rightly very popular.
Excellent venue, service was so friendly and helpful, food absolutely delicious so we would all definitely return thank you very very much
Tasty fresh food simply cooked, generous portions, good service.
Fantastic experience. We went on Sunday lunchtime and each had a different Roast dinner and all were excellent. Puddings great too, especially the creme brûlée
Very generous portions!
Lovely fresh food
We had a lovely family meal, the service was very good & the food was excellent.
The best restaurant in Swanage. Lovely friendly and attentive wait staff. The chef is fantastic. You could watch him plating up and salivating over trying to decide what to choose off the menu. We had the sous vide steak and the sea bass. Both were absolutely fantastic and good size portions with dauphinois potatoes and fresh veg. We sent our compliments to the chef for a wonderful meal. Would definitely recommend if you are in the Swanage area. But book in advance as they only open 3 nights a week for a few early evening hours.
The food was absolutely amazing, one of the best meals I’ve had. Big portions too, so you definitely get your value!
Food was average at best. Service poor but seemed a college kid and so had sympathy.
Lovely staff but specials were really over priced and we sadly had to send two dishes back as the trout fish cakes were full of bones - careful and the crispy wings were not! Thankfully they took these two dishes off the bill which I thanks them for.
Worth a visit as it has potential
We booked a meal at The Salt Pig Swannage at the start of our holiday for the last night. It didn’t disappoint us-we received friendly and attentive service, and chose the lamb kebabs,a rib eye steak and a pork chop. All were cooked to perfection, generous portions and were enjoyed in a lovely setting.Would definitely recommend if you are in the area.
Swanage Branch: Unfortunately, whilst the dinner menu was limited, the serving staff didn't seem to have any knowledge of how the dishes were cooked (ie grilled, etc) and weren't aware of the ingredients included in these. The over priced potted crab starter was awful - about an inch of butter at the top, with a weird coleslaw (very wet) mixture underneath. The seafood linguine was equally awful - tasted like it had the same sauce as the potted crab - very large portion, but incredibly bad quality. However, the saving grace was the lamb skewer - meat was very tender and well cooked - the accompaniments (hummus, flat bread, etc), though, weren't good and the plate of food looked very unappetising due to its presentation.
Wareham Branch: Completely different from the Swanage branch - miles ahead in every way, ie knowledgeable / helpful staff, great selection and quality of food, lovely ambience.
We had an absolutely delicious evening meal. Fabulous pork chop, lovely starter and pudding. Service was really friendly and relaxed. So good we went back for breakfast!
First time trying the Salt Pig Too and was really impressed. Food was really tasty and fresh… some really good items on the menu to chose from also, spoilt for choice!
Will 100% be going back again soon. Would definitely recommend :)
The plates were dressed by the chef in view of the restaurant and the chef was happy to talk about the food which added to the experience. Great food and great customer service. Would highly recommend.
Lovely roast dinner, friendly staff and hood selection of drinks. Good value for money and tasty local produce
Amazing service, outstanding food from very knowledgeable and talented chefs.
This restaurant was highly recommended and on arriving we were greeted by a young girl & shown to our table. She apologised for our table not being wiped clean & this was done & we sat down. We were ready to order everything when she came to take our drinks order. This is where it all went wrong. I ordered 1 cider, 1 beer, 1 tea & 1 orange juice, the waitress said there was no orange juice & we ordered apple, we got Mango & I got a cider instead of a lager. Not to worry this was changed to a water as there was no lime for my lager.
We ordered food, 2 roast beef, 1 veggie roast & 1 fish. We got 2 roast lamb but my kids hate a fuss so I didn’t say anything to the waitress.
On getting the bill after enjoying our dinner (even tho I wanted beef) I saw we had been charged for an extra cider & also the veggie roast was same price as the meat roast. By this time I just wanted to leave so the extra cider was taken off the bill & we left leaving a smaller than normal tip.
The food was amazing & I think we were unlucky with all that went wrong,
I would recommend going but if it goes wrong tell them as I wish I had. Paid a lot to eat a dinner I hadn’t ordered 🤣
We’ve been to this restaurant before and loved it. This time we had a roast. It felt a bit sad in there compared to last time, short staffed, food was luke warm and felt we’ve received food from the end of service😔 The meat on the roast was good and the gravy! We will try again, loved it before, think we’ll stick to the salads and sausage rolls next time. I hope this was a one off and that they can get back to how they were before as it was great on our previous visits🤞
Sunday roasts were so so overcooked. Meat was like rubber and the potatoes were awful. Such a disappointment as I live the produce side of the shop
Excellent quality, locally-sourced food and fantastic service. A very enjoyable evening, all in all.
Truly wonderful. What a great concept! Maybe I’d want to see a slightly expanded menu? we will certainly come back if I’m the area . Thank you
Food was great as always, look forward to our next meal
Excellent throughout. No need to elaborate further.
Amazing Sunday Roast. I had pork.
Lovely evening and superb quality food. Waiters and waitresses were very helpful everything we ordered was delicious.
Wonderful, second time for us and we always use this for our go to celebration nights when in swanage.
The food in my opinion is exceptional, fish dishes are fresh and meat is beautifully served and cooked.. additionally the wine selection and beer selection are all local products and serve the food well.. three courses, wine and water for two came to £86… worth every penny, sadly no bookings for the night after otherwise would of gone back again. As a foot note, the staff are helpful, knowledgeable and most important attentive.. cannot recommend this place enough. Also the wife says the chef is amazing and knows his flowers “peace”.
Great food and fantastic friendly service. The best meal on our holiday.
Very disappointed. My husband had a lamb Sunday dinner. It was mainly fat. Yorkshire puddings were dense as if they had been cooked days before. Choice of beer very limited.Very poor. Would not recommend
