The Salt Room
Recent winner of the Seafish UK Restaurant of the Year 2017 our menu champions sustainability and showcases the very best local produce.
Continuing the ethos of sharing plates like our sister restaurant, The Coal Shed, our menu champions sustainability and showcases the very best local produce.
Located opposite Brighton’s West Pier, our seaside restaurant has the best sea views which can be enjoyed from our glass fronted mezzanine or for alfresco dining on our shaded terrace. The Private Dining Room allows for a larger party to enjoy the views and menu in style.
Amazing food, atmosphere, and value for money. Would thoroughly recommend.
The service was very good and the staff friendly. Would definitely go again
Seafood was great. Service was excellent. Drinks a bit pricey. So overall good.
Imaginative beautifully cooked and quality sourced food. Excellent Service and attention to detail.
Enjoyed our meal very much. My husband was a little disappointed at the portion size of the roast and the fact that there were no roast potatoes. But the flavours were superb. Would highly recommend. Will be eating here again.
Excellent food and service. I choose this restaurant for a birthday meal as I love any fish, however my husband prefers meat. All of our fish and meat courses did not disappoint and my husband has even decided he now loves fish! Will definitely return when we are next in Brighton.
All 3 courses were very good the English wine was also very good. Nice and busy with a great vibe
Great service Wines a little expensive though but superior
Overall a good dinner out, the staff and food were very good it was just unfortunate that we had a very loud table of four to the side of us ( a little too much alcohol) that slightly put us off, but appreciate this can happen anywhere
Lovely food, a bit expensive but worth every penny 5star
Superb new menu. We really enjoyed the sharing plate. We had all the courses and enjoyed everything about them eg size, flavour and choice. I would definitely visit again. Great cocktails too and friendly interesting staff.
Good food good service. Really enjoyed my diner. Bring your own wine on Mondays is a real bonus.
Appealing seaside restaurant with reasonable menu alternatives. A good wine list and ever so slightly cheaper than London.
Amazing food!! Service was a bit slow. Drinks were fabulous. Loved it and would definitely recommend!!
The food was lovely and surprising. We had a beautiful lunch and the staff was very friendly and helpful. We would certainly go back if we happen to spend time in Brighton.
Sunday lunch needed roast potatoes overall lunch was good
Celebrating a special birthday - a birthday lunch for my friend and the Salt Room came up trumps. We had aperitifs and a good catch up, we were not hustled and the service was good. The star of the show was the food and all three courses - six dishes between us were delicious. We agreed that there would definitely be a next next time. Thank you
Absolutely loved the meal. Perfect ambiance lovely restaurant and great service
Lovely venue. Family friendly. Friendly and helpful waiters. The food was very tasty and there was a good choice on the menu. The only negative was that my pasta portion was on the small side for a main course. We will be back!
Impeccable service from a waitress who was more than happy to offer suggestions and really give us a feel for the menu before we ordered. She made sure that our drinks were always topped up and we were enjoying our food.
The food itself was amazing and extremely high quality. The Monkfish sharing main was excellent!
All in all, a wonderful evening - we definitely hope to return to the Salt Room!
Not the biggest menu, but everything on it sounded appetising. The food we chose was delicious and very reasonably priced. The staff were professional, friendly and attentive. The setting was welcoming, upmarket and comfortable. ‘Twas very pleasant meal.
My friend & I enjoyed 2 courses and a glass of wine for £20 on a wet windy day. The mackerel pate with ricotta and sour dough was particularly delicious.
Best cocktails and Sunday lunch I’ve had in a long time
Fab meal, great service, would definitely go again.
Everything was good except the mussels which were stringy and inedible (we did inform the server), luckily they were just an accompaniment to our main which was the barbecued monkfish which was very good
My first time here for my partner's birthday treat. When I looked at the menu on-line it looked a bit pricey. But the portion sizes are large and the additional touches to the menu made it feel luxurious and special. We had the Surfboard which was an abundance of fresh shellfish. The prawns were HUGE and perfectly cooked. We couldn't finish it all. Very good value I thought. Service excellent, a really busy Saturday night but we never had to refill our own glasses. Will definitely go again.
The food was outstanding and our waitress was very attentive. However, I must say we have waited for our food for at least 40 minutes. It was a Saturday night so I guess it’s due to the business of the night.
Always a delight to come to the Salt Room, a feeling clearly shared by other diners : there is a real atmosphere of enjoyment which the servers do their part in creating by their cheerful, helpful attitude.
Sadly we cannot give a detailed appreciation of the whole menu because the 'Surfboard' always beguiles us into choosing it and then we have no room for anything else. It is a simple dish and delicious.
Our one grumble is that they still don't offer non-alcoholic beer despite the growing trend elsewhere. But my husband seems to like the house lemonade with mint.
Great position on the seafront. An unstuffy friendly place with great staff & really lovely food, well presented
I love coming to The Salt Room. Never disappoints, always impresses.
Amazing service and amazing food. Very impressed!
Stunning food - flavour combinations I haven’t come across. Lovely atmosphere and good value. A real treat without breaking the bank.
Second visit here and very good on all counts. Cost was around £55 per person which is OK for a venue of this standard.
Food was good so assume new chef had started and wish him all the best.
I had booked The Salt Room for a catch up with the parents of my best friend. I booked it with expectations of a quality meal with service to match, knowing that they appreciate excellent food and service. I arrived in the pouring rain, went to hand my coat (a bulky winter parka) to the waiter who went to take it and then said "Oh actually there is a coat hook behind your table" - I thought this was pretty odd, but accepted it. I wish I hadn't as when I got there I had to negotiated around my companions who were already seated and also arrived to greet them holding a dripping coat - quite frankly, it was embarrassing! Service didn't improve with waiter being unable to answer even simple questions about the menu and what dishes comprised, even when one diner stated an allergy. I would never return based on this experience and will also be warning colleagues to avoid for business lunches as the whole experience opens you up to total embarrassment if you've been asked to recommend somewhere. I would be embarrassed at this level of service at a run-of-the-mill chain, for somewhere that seems to charge as though it is superior to this, it is beyond embarrassing.
We had such a lovely experience they treated us lovely!
We got engaged the day before and they knew about it gave us two glasses of fizz on the house! And did a fancy thing saying congratulations your engaged with truffles! It made our night so thankyou!!
I’ve been twice now, I recommended to friends after the first visit, however, the second visit wasn’t as good. Disappointed customer.
great service and an interesting menu. I had sharing roast which was very generous portions. Would go again
We shared the turbot (special of the day) which was absolutely lovely and beautifully cooked. The white widow cocktail after dinner went down well and the cheese board had a good selection with savouries. Always a very pleasant and enjoyable meal. Love this restaurant! Staff as always helpful and attentive
had a great time , food very good as always
