The Salt Room
Recent winner of the Seafish UK Restaurant of the Year 2017 our menu champions sustainability and showcases the very best local produce.
Continuing the ethos of sharing plates like our sister restaurant, The Coal Shed, our menu champions sustainability and showcases the very best local produce.
Located opposite Brighton’s West Pier, our seaside restaurant has the best sea views which can be enjoyed from our glass fronted mezzanine or for alfresco dining on our shaded terrace. The Private Dining Room allows for a larger party to enjoy the views and menu in style.
Relaxed informal dining. Staff are lovely, food is excellent.
Food and service was incredible but the only poor service we received that 5 main dishes we could not order due to no stock which is odd for a restaurant with this cost. Will need to check they have food before we revisit or tell us before we book again.
Waitress was a little sarcastic, maybe trying to be funny but came across slightly rude.
No green beans available which meant with the steaks no possible veg. How hard is it to go to Tesco and buy some veg to offer?
Steak was ok but not great. Scallops starter great as was the Pier dessert and the wine.
Ate here during a visit to brighton for the weekend.
It was ok, nothing more.
Disappointingly limited food choice (vs somewhere like The Ivy in the Lanes).
Steak was overdone.
The “special” starter was not available after 7pm.
Service was good but the value overall was poor.
I’m a frequent diner at Salt Room . The only slight problem was the steak was tough and dry . Very unusual as it’s usually excellent . Other than that very good
Great meal let down by greedy charge of £3 for 2 small chocolates which should have been free with the coffee.
Let the whole experience surprise you! Food is splendid, mood is perfect and the wine list is alright too ;) enjoy.
Tried the October special menu - two greatly made fishes with a good white wine and a super nice chocolate tart to finish. However, the waiter didn’t mention the bread requires extra charge of £4 and it was served cold. Overall environment was great. Good value for money!
Love this place great food service and wine choice
The food, especially the oysters, was excellent. It’s a pity your wine is so expensive, not really necessary to price it so high.
Will be back for the birthday party for my grandson and family
Really great food, amazing service, fab with kids. Will recommend to all of my friends and hopefully return soon :)
Jus the best seafood I’ve eaten and I’m an ex fisherman and seafood fanatic. Go there...
Great food, excellent service, good atmosphere and good value.
I will eat there again when next in Brighton
Nice friendly welcome. Quality of food was top notch. Fish is their speciality and they do it superbly. John Dory on specials board was exquisite. Would definitely recommend and if I go back to Brighton, the Salt Room will be on my itinerary.
The salt room was right next to The Grand where we were staying, which was handy. We loved the atmosphere and the service, and neither of us could find any fault with food, it was fabulous!! Also, quick friendly service!!
We had a fantastic evening .... wanted to visit for a long time . Now can’t wait to return. Delicious
We went to The Salt Room for a birthday lunch for my wife. She thoroughly enjoyed the occasion. It was late lunchtime and the restaurant was not too busy. I had asked for a window seat, which we were given. We were a little late arriving and on a tight schedule but the staff were excellent and made sure the food was served within the time we had available but without rushing us. The staff were very attentive and made the meal most enjoyable. We had various fish dishes and they were excellent, as were the starters. Great food and wine.
An extremely happy experience for an important occasion.
We had a wonderful dinner on Monday evening. A couple and 2 well behaved children. Food was properly fabulous and we were looked after with such great charm by universally lovely entirely professional staff. No wonder Jay Rayner reviewed it so fondly. Far and away the best dinner we've had in Brighton. I can hardly wait to go back, indeed we very nearly tried to go back the very next day.
Really great place. Me and my wife love it. Especially in the summer when you can enjoy the sea views sitting outside.
Food never disappoints. Oysters are fresh every time. Creative starters and variety of fresh fish is the reason we come here often and bring friends whenever there is an occasion.
Would definitely recommend to anyone, be it a seafood lovers or meat lovers, as there are some tasty steaks as well.
Friendly staff and great service makes this place unforgettable !!!
Great meal etc- quite noisy for a romantic table for 2. But definitely go back
We enjoyed a birthday meal in this stylish, welcoming safe haven from the rain.
Food and service equally as on point.
Great to see many features enhanced from the original building...
After checking the menu on- line we would not have gone to this restaurant if we hadn't been given a voucher.
Although the food was very tasty there simply was not enough of it and very expensive for the meager portions we received.
I had the scorched mackrell and my husband the crab salad which i repeat were very tasty but there was about a tablespoon of the salad and two very thin fillets of mackrell.
We shared a John Dory for main course but even though we chose the dearer size at £45 there was very little fish on the plate.
Deserts very tasty but small again.
Even though we booked two weeks in advance we did feel we were given the table nobody else wanted, very near the kitchen.
Excellent food and very helpful when we needed to add a seat at the last minute
The Salt Room is maybe the best restaurant in Brighton! The food is AMAZING, the service is great, the ambiance is lovely, the cocktails are divine...! It's right opposite the seafront, it feels relaxed as well as special. They are experts in fish and seafood, but there are some meat options too. I couldn't recommend this place highly enough!
Sorry guys disappointing first visit, we won't be returning anytime soon and or recommending Im afraid. You're over priced for what you actually receive drinks included £9.00 for a single Rum & diet pepsi?! (for example)
A delicious treat for anyone who is a seafood lover. We were not rushed and were given plenty of wonderful recommendations for food and wine.
Booked a lunch here for my dad who loves fish and is over from America. We had a wonderful meal. One of the best fish restaurants. Everything was perfect.
Had to wait for a table even though we arrived on time. Ended up with a small one next to a pillar. Seemed the staff were a bit overstretched as they had a big party in. Food was, however, excellent if a bit pricey.
Wonderful fish soup - one of the best ever. Sadly disappointed in beef tartare although accompaniments were top notch the beef itself was dreadfully tasteless. When I enquired as to the provenance the chef said “Norfolk” !! No wonder then. Nice wine list, excellent entre deux mers.
Second time here! Somehow I have better memories of the first visit but we went later in the evening and there was more of a buzz in the restaurant. We still had a fab time and the food was great.
The only thing I’d say is that the waitress recommended the chips with our dishes (monkfish and halibut) and they weren’t a good fit. Overall I can 100% recommend and would come again!
Just a lovely restaurant with great food and staff!!
Fantastic food, if you order right! This restaurant specialising in seafood cooked over flames, so ordering a whole Wild Turbot to share = smart move vs a steak which you can get anywhere (it was still good though) The shared seafood starter was amazing, full of langoustines & tiger prawns but could have perhaps have had more squid, mussels and clams. Come here for the whole seasonal fish to share I'd say, a rare treat in a buzzy place. Take a table higher up if you can so you can enjoy the views - we were down below...
We sat on the terrace on what may be one of the last warm evenings of the year and had a very enjoyable dinner. The food was great, the location and ambience were excellent and the staff were very friendly attentive without being intrusive.
The food was excellent with a good choice of fish cooked freshly. The staff were attentive and the staff made my partner a special birthday plate which was a lovely touch.
I LOVED this place! Amazing food with consistently high, yet non-intrusive service from genuinely knowledgeable staff.
It is obvious that they delight in offering welcome advice and information on each plate.
My special thanks to Alice & Julie!
Service by Fran (Fancesco I believe) was outstanding and whilst giving us space to eat and talk, always made sure we had what we needed. The only thing that had a negative effect on the ambiance was the attitude of the manager who was off-hand to customers and we heard him being rude to staff.
Great service, great food and a sea-view too!
very poor experience.
the cod was absolutely terrible. warm, undercooked and a stingy portion. it looked very unappetising on my plate too. the service was also mixed too. the staff seemed to lack direction and leadership. would not rush back there. can get better cod in lidl
