There were no outside heaters.
Was only two servers to almost 10 tables
The food was just ok.
Sorry will not return for dinner again
Drinks service was a bit slow to start with but it improved. Food and especially vegetarian option my wife had was excellent as was the food service. Quality of Guinness and Cocktails were extremely good as well. The sunshine coming through the clouds made it warm but it was cold as we were leaving.
As we arrived we weren’t sure what to do, we stood in the foyer but there was no signage as to whether we should wait or not - staff were walking about so we went in ahead through to the back and took a seat. We asked other customers what we were supposed to do but they weren’t sure either.
A waiter came and asked if we had a booking which we did, and he asked if we could move to another table which was quite tricky to eat food at. This was odd as two fellas ended up sitting where we were anyway.
The staff were nice and polite but seemed confused, and people were constantly being turned away who had not booked tables even though they had already been allowed to come in and sit down.
This made the atmosphere quite strange, so maybe some signage would help.
No condiments were offered so had to go and get them, we asked for straws which never came, and none of the waiting staff could tell us how long we could keep our table for.
We didn’t have a parasol/cover at our table so we were getting rained on at various points. The tables that did have parasols kept blowing over.
This wouldn’t bother us if it was a cheap and cheerful place but it was £15 each for fish and chips, plus plenty spent on drinks.
Lovely food and ambience, great service and staff, made to feel very welcome. Will definitely return when open again after lockdown.
Beautiful food and fantastic staff! Can’t wait to go back!
On arrival we where met and greeted by the hostess taken to the table seated snd made very welcome
The food was ordered delivered with a smile. As for the food it was outstanding.
Wonderful meal as always, great to be back in a restaurant again. Well done to everyone and the hard work to put things in place to allow customers to return.
It was quiet when we visited which is a shame as the food here is always great.
Staff were quick, friendly and attentive.
Food was tasty and all presented with a little "twist" - my steak came with a small cottage pie - absolutely delicious.
Seating area so well spaced for Covid, staff efficiently remind of necessary rules and ensure they are followed, lots of sanitiser and all in all current issues are very well managed.
We love coming here with our dogs. Such a friendly welcome, great food, adhering to covid guidance
A great breakfast for both of us, served by a very pleasant staff member. The restaurant is reassuringly clean and Covid compliant.
Bit quieter than I would expect, but then so was the town. Really enjoyed the pork and my partner enjoyed the coley. Desserts to die for and a good selection of craft beers.
Good cocktails, great burger and fish and chips. Excellent service, relaxed and knowledgeable.
Staff great, friendly and helpful. Good food. Warm atmosphere.
Food was terrible. Ordered roast beef for Sunday lunch couldn’t get my knife through the meat. Asked for a steak knife and couldn’t get it through the meat. They didn’t charge for the meal but that wasn’t the point. I was looking forward to a nice Sunday dinner out. It didn’t happen 😔
1st family meal out in ages had vouchers. Had a fantastic enjoyable meal food was great and staff as well
It was vile from start to finish. If there was an option for 0 I would have done it.
First we ordered coke and it was served in a dirty glass with lipstick all over it. Sent it back
Then my daughter ordered chowder - had bones in it!
I ordered medium-rare steak - came out burnt - went back.
My son had fish and chips and the batter was old and burnt.
We complained 3 times and not once were we offered a solution. Loads of staff around but didn’t come near us.
Have never complained before anyway but this was expensive dirt and so disappointing. Do not go here and waste your money like we did. Never again!
We love to dine at the Salty Dog every time we visit Bangor as the food and service are always excellent and we can bring our dog with us , however on this occasion the food was not up to the usual standard and was in fact very poor, cutting back on the quality and quantity of the food served is not a way for a business to survive in these difficult times.
Restaurant was not very busy but tables were back to back in one section instead of using other sections to be spaced out. We did not feel comfortable sitting this close to others ,so we chose to sit outside.Temperatures were taken upon entering but tables were less then a metre apart.
Friendly staff, Really good meal, Comfortable surroundings, what more could you ask for.
We chose to go here because you’re able to bring dogs.
Food was ok, nothing special and a little expensive for what it was. Staff were friendly and dogs welcomed, would go back for this reason.
Amazing friendly staff, great food and super welcoming to our two puppies!
Can’t wait to be back!
Early evening dinner. Good menu choice, friendly staff and close to harbour.
The staff ignored us for ages. We had booked, were there on time. Diners arrivimg after us got drinks long before us. The staff were all glum but half way through the evening they warned up.
The salty dog was located in a great area. It had a stunning view of the sea. The food was enjoyable and would love to go back again sometime
Average food which I wouldn’t have been happy paying full price for. We went for the half price eat out but we were initially only given £20 discount from £57 bill with no alcohol so couldn’t understand the maths but I decided to ask and another waiter gave us the difference back. We enjoyed being able to take our dog (who didn’t get offered water which was strange for a dog friendly restaurant) but I felt the service wasn’t great so wouldn’t be rushing back.
Food was nice, decent pub food. Social distancing was handled well and service was really great from all the staff.
Very poor social distancing arrangements. Tables too close together. Staff not wearing masks.
Tables are all over a meter apart. Furthermore we take guests and staff temeperatures on arrival, and have changed procedures and trained the staff to socially distance when taking orders and serving guests.
We had main meal and dessert. Scampi and fish were too salty. Lemon tart was lovely and wine was also great.
I will never be back. Upon entry we were told we could not order drinks before our food due to covid guidance. I have no idea where this has come from as I manage a restaurant myself and I know for a fact this is not the case.
We then ordered drinks a pint of d.coke and a fanta lemon. The drinks arrived and the d.coke was not a pint and the fanta lemon was flat. We informed the waitress we ordered a pint not a glass and she told us we didn't. I told her I heard my boyfriend order a pint so it is not our fault she miss heard him. Then I complained about the fanta lemon being flat and asked for water instead. I was brought another fanta lemon and assured this time it was not flat, which was not the case so I informed another waiter I did not want it and was given water instead.
The menu was extremely reduced to what they advertise online which was frustrating at the get go. I had the misto fritto which was lovely and my boyfriend had the sausage rolls which were extremely overcooked. I then had the hake which was beautiful and my boyfriend the burger which was disgusting. The restaurant I run specialises in burgers and we would not dream of charging 15 pound for a burger and chips and the portion sizes we serve are double what we received here. Furthermore the quality of product we serve it triple what the salty dog provides. He was given a side of chips which was in a cup which was frustrating when we seen other customers receiving larger portions of chips.
The service was hit or miss depending on what server came to your table. The staff were drinking beverages in front of customers and had chemicals sitting on counter tops both visible and within the reach of customers which is unacceptable.
We were given a tea towel as a napkin which blew my mind! Are these cleaned after every use? Who knows? During these times you would appreciate disposable napkins.
I will not be recommending here to anyone I know I will be telling them to avoid at all cost.
I am sorry to see this review. I can only imagine it was coloured by the fact that half your party decided not to eat with us after refusing to have their temperature taken on arrival. I can only apologise if there was a misunderstanding as it is alcoholic drinks that Hospitality Ulster guidance says shouldn't be ordered before ood. I would note that our Napkins are in our control at all times & are washed after every use at 90 degrees. This makes them probably more hygenic than paper.
Service was excellent, food was delicious, menu a bit limited but in these times that’s understandable.
Menu was very limited, this was due to the eat out to help out offer but no chicken or vegan option available which I thought was poor. They also appeared to be sold out of lots of things including spirits and certain wines and beers. Overall it was a nice meal but I was expecting it to be much better.
We have a full vegan menu available and I can only apologise if this was not brought to your attention.
Great food and service. Room lay out great for social distancing
I went here because it had such good reviews and was looking forward to it. I’m gutted to be saying this as I promise it’s probably only the second poor review I’ve ever given. The food was awful! We had the flat iron steak which was in a “jus” Which tasted of five spice very strange. The steak was over cooked and the chips looked the part but some of them were hard. Despite that we tried a dessert of pineapple fritter with a cardamom cream. Lots of grease and a teaspoon of cream that definitely didn’t taste of cardamom. Paid and left ! The staff were lovely and as such they received a tip but the standard of the meal was definitely sub standard and at a cost of £18 per steak I’d expect better sorry guys
Very clean and comfortable, excellent attentive staff and excellent food with a decent vegan menu
Nice restaurant overlooking Bangor bay. Very helpful staff and lovely food. Perfect for a quiet meal
Excellent food with limited menu, great service and overall great experience. However, the ambience could do with a little improvement it was looking a little tired in places and the lighting was more cafe like than a restaurant experience. But wouldn't put me off as the food and service is of excellent quality.
I was looking forward to dining at the salty dog but was very disappointed that the menu choice was so limited and there were no specials. The food was the level of fast food and there was no garnish on the plate. I have enjoyed many Groupon vouchers before and the food was stunning. £15 for a burger and chips felt like they had also hiked their prices for this event.
The food was delicious.
Unfortunately we were told after just finishing our main course that we only had 10 minutes left. We had only had one course and had only been there about an hour.
I have been in other restaurant, during this pandemic and I felt very comfortable in the Salty Dog restaurant, unlike restaurant in Donaghadee, which had scant regard for the Covid19 regulation.
Whilst the food was lovely when it did arrive service was slow, no ambience at all.... Not welcoming. Shown to table, given menu, orders taken.. No interaction between customer and server whatsoever.
