Absolutely gorgeous venue and setting.
Sunday roast was delicious and worth the trip
Good Yorkshire pud
Had a lovely walk by the river after
Staff were very friendly and nice
Food came prompt
My potatoes were burnt sadly
Took a little while to get serviced for dessert although staff was very apologetic
This was my first visit and I won't be going back in a hurry. Parking was difficult, the food wasn't great - we went for Sunday lunch and the food was barely warm when it arrived. The beef was OK but the vegetables weren't well cooked at all and were tasteless - they weren't served separately, just dumped on the plate with the meat. I had the mini dessert and hot drink combo to finish - the dessert was nice but the hot chocolate was powdery. Disappointing as I had heard good things about this place
Service was good, nice location and ambiance however the food was cold, for the prices of a fillet steak I would expect a lot better
Excellent service. Good quality food. Rack of lamb was perfectly cooked.
All good, however very busy on a Sunday lunch, and would recommend booking
Food took over an hour to come out and was cold. It was so bad, for the first time ever we just walked out and got a Dominoes...
Service was indifferent. Was offered water at table. Had to ask for it again. Offered bread to share at the table - didn’t realise it was billed at £6.50
Selected wine from list - price printed didn’t match what they had on tablet. Was told they’d deduct the difference, but when the bill arrived, it wasn’t.
Wine “waiter” just poured the glasses & walked away. Fortunately it was fine.
The food was good - all credit to the kitchen staff on turning out attractive, tasty dishes.
The Saxon Mill won’t feature on our list to revisit for a long time.
For a start we could not park in the car park or anywhere nearby. Inside it was complete chaos with serving staff running everywhere. There was broken glass and spilled food from the kitchen all around our table which no one bothered to attend to. The service was slow and we simply ate our food when it eventually arrived and left as soon as we could. Overall very disappointed as previous visits had been good.
Great for Vegetarians!
We went here for Fathers Day
We all had the set 3 course menu
Food was quick and good
We had a mixture of Lamb roast/ Chickn roast and the Vegetarian
Deserts were good as well
Not a good experience at all was ment to be table service but ended up going the bar myself then waited over 25 mins for a cocktail that the barman started to make when I ordered it he said will bring to your table in a couple of minutes had to ask 3 or 4 times where the drink was
Easter weekend family treat , lovely sunny day , staff were great food was very nice we all enjoyed our day even had time for a walk along the river after
Amazing setting, and brilliant food. Service very attentive too!
Booked a table for 3 on Mother’s Day for a non mother related event. Table was clearly hastily put together with uncomfortable height chairs and definitely not enough room for three people. Ordered three roast dinners which came out within a reasonable time. Came out without vegetables or the side dish we’d ordered. Side dish arrived 10-15 minutes later. Chased the vegetables at this time and was told they’d be out soon. Never arrived and we had to finish our dinners before they went cold, without the vegetables. Told waitress as she cleared our plates - no apology, no offer of anything to make up for it. Ordered three deserts as dinner had been obviously unsatisfying. Waited between 30-45 minutes before finally cancelling the deserts as we were pretty fed up with the whole experience and just wanted to leave. Bill came and we had to actually ask for something to be compensated off to compensate for not receiving our veg at all! Then as we paid, they charged my card to the wrong table so I had to pay twice and wait for the incorrect charge to be returned to my bank after a few days.
Overall - the food was nice but service was abysmal. I understand busy days happen and Mother’s Day is bound to be one of those, and I can understand mistakes can happen too, but the service we received was absolutely terrible. No apologies, no automatic compensation for our multiple issues.
Would not return.
Food wasn't as nice as previously, a lil disappointed. Food was flavour less and hard potatoes and veg. Great atmosphere and surroundings. Understaffed but worked very hard
We booked through open table. When we arrived they were very busy. We waited for about 15 minutes before we got to the front of the queue. They had no record of our reservation. When I showed it to her on my phone her response was "Well we will make sure we find a table for you" - which unfortunately was not in the restaurant. The wine waiter was so incompetent that the cork snapped in half as he was trying to extract it. Starter took half an hour to arrive (but was actually worth the wait as it was very nice). However, our main courses when they arrived were stone cold (literally) - they were not even luke warm. I invited the waitress to feel it with her hand and she expressed surprise. She took them back and returned asking us if we wanted the meals reheated or replaced, saying that if we wanted them replaced there might be a bit of a wait. Given that she had had her hand on my meal I was flabbergasted that she would even consider that we would want it reheating. The replacements came reasonably quickly and whilst not piping hot, it was better, but an unremarkable meal. The desserts were adequate. We will not return (we had a better meal at a Harvester restaurant the week before and it was half the price)
Lovely setting for a date and great service from the staff who were all friendly and polite. Food is a little pricey for it’s quality but it is still good.
Went there for brunch and it was a great atmosphere. The full English was fairly standard but the "Chargrilled Chorizo, Avocado, Spinach And Poached Egg" was out of this world. Definitely recommend trying other things on the menu outside the norm.
We were also surprised by the lovely dogs that are allowed into the pub which made the experience even more pleasant.
This is the second time we have been disappointed with Saxon mills. We booked a family table of 4 and waited 20 minutes to be seated. There was such a large crowd at around the bar downstairs that people were actually hitting my husbands elbow whilst he was eating. The food took nearly an hour to come out and when it did i couldn’t eat my belly pork as it was so burnt and dry i couldn’t cut it.
I know that this is busy season with office parties etc but if you can’t cope with the numbers then limit the number you have and make sure they recieve a quality service which will translate into return customers.
We will find a new place to make our regular go to restaurant. So disappointed :(
Food was cold by the time it came
I have eaten here before and it was very good. This time the service was quite slow and the food luke warm (I think it had been waiting on the pass)
Shame because the setting is stunning.
Felt we were really looked after and food was amazing
A lovely place but the service was awful on that day.
Fortunately the food and building make up for the service. It does not feel like you are being served as you hardly see any staff and it feels like everything is a problem for them at times because they are so rushed and catering for so many people.
Disappointed with the service in this restaurant. From the moment we arrived it was poor. The barman downstairs was incredibly rude -I had asked for a drinks menu and he abruptly told me they did not have a wine menu behind the bar and what table to take one off. Service was slow and painful. The pizza bread starter had no garlic on it. The fillet steak and chips were nice. Choclate bombe -amazing. It is however, overpriced for what it is and the service is so poor I would not recommend.
A very nice "gastropub" for very good food and a nice atmosphere. They usually have some specials that are worth checking out. Make reservations as they are usually very busy all the time. Worth a visit if in the Warwick area.
Another lovely evening at the Saxon Mill. Scallops to start, followed by guinea fowl for mains, both cooked to perfection.
when we arrived we were left standing at the desk with staff walking past and not even an acknowledgement. We told the member of staff that although we had booked for 3 we had two children with us would that be a problem. We were told we couldn't go to restaurant we could sit at bar tables. We ordered at approx. 7;30 but after prompting staff on many occasions not just for whereabouts of our meal orders but on our drinks order we finally left at 10.00.
The food wasn't brilliant but edible !
Absolutely the worse trained staff we have ever encountered (although pleasant) .We will not be going there again
Loved everything about the place apart from the parking.
When my friend & I left the Saxon Mill he remarked 'another excellent meal; you can always rely on them here'. Indeed, the cuisine is invariably varied, interesting, imaginative and tasty. The service is attentive without being intrusive. Keep it up!
We've eaten at the Saxon Mill a number of times in the past and we've always been happy with everything and never had any real issues. On this occasion there were a number of 'annoyances' which together have put us off going back. We love the menu - a good range of dishes. And the food was beautiful - freshly cooked with fresh ingredients. Full marks to the chef(s). However, when we first went in the there was limited space by the welcome desk and as there was a couple in front of us waiting for the staff to seat them, we had to wait a few minutes - not a problem apart from the health and safety issue of having to dodge waiters who were bringing hot food from the kitchen upstairs. We were seated on the ground floor at a table near a door with a curtain over it and there was a cold draught so we asked to be moved to another table. We were with our 19 year old daughter and her 18 year old boyfriend to celebrate her birthday. We ordered a round of drinks including a cocktail for our daughter and a pint of Peroni for her boyfriend. After the starter we ordered a 2nd round of drinks at which point the waitress quite curtly asked for ID for 'the children'. This wasn't really a problem - they both had ID on them but we would have expected ID to be requested when we ordered the first round. And at 18 and 19 they neither of them look like children! The table we were sitting at was next to a fire exit door which had been closed most of the time. But just after we had finished our main course, one of the bar staff came and opened the door and left it wide open. My husband immediately closed it again and the same employee came and opened it. We asked him to close it as it was cold but he said that he had been told to open it to 'let some air circulate'. He had not asked us if that would be a problem. On the whole, we felt that we were more of an annoyance to them than welcome customers despite paying over £130 in total for the 4 of us.
Nice setting and feel to the place. Food ok but salad not up to much. Service has deteriorated since last time. Staff not very attentive unless you ask, then waited ages to pay despite asking twice.
Great place to go with family - a beautiful setting with great food. Sunday roast was great.
Booked for 8pm,table wasn't ready for over half an hour, didn't get food til after 10pm,service was very slow and the waiters kept banging into our table knocking everything over.
My wife said the Sea Bass she had was the best she has ever had, it was absolutely delicious. I was a bit disappointed with my Belly Draft which I felt was overdone and a bit dry. Apart from that the restaurant is interesting with the water wheel and the service was good.
We would be happy to give it another try, although it is a bit of a distance for us.
I found the service to be very slow between meals. Food was of an average standard but nothing to write home about.
Excellent food, well worth a visit. Service was really slow due to a computer malfunction. It meant our lunch lasted 3 hours. Fortunately we weren't in a hurry!
Nice food, although nothing special. Service level poor, they would either forget to bring the sauce, vinegar etc or just altogether, as we experienced waiting for desserts and the bill
The meal was delicious with a portion size that meant three courses was a possibility.
The ambience was good with the only criticism being that the room was too warm by the end of the meal when the restaurant was full.
The service was well paced and friendly with the only delay on the initial drinks order.
Needed a mutually convenient place to meet up with friends and found this by search engine. Lovely location with parking. Beautiful old mill with friendly and attentive staff. We had a couple of burgers, a fish platter and the bacon, avocado salad for lunch. The former two were excellent. The salad however was disappointing - lacked flavour and the bacon tasted stale. Would however visit again but not choose the salad!! It would be a really nice place to go on a sunny, warm day.
