Amazing food and service. Really great location. We shared a selection of starters, all of them were delicious!
The waitresses were very attentive and the food was fantastic. I had the salmon and it was perfectly cooked. I can highly recommend this restaurant
wonderful little gem in St Albans, gorgeous interior and fantastic staff!
Excellent food - very good evening. We took a business guest from Japan who enjoyed it
Took my foodie mother here for Mother's Day and it did not disappoint. This is a nice little restaurant in a fine central Cambridge location. The service was attentive and professional. The menu had some lovely choices and was well thought through and the food excellent. The Mackerel salad was generous and delicious. The dish of the day was roasted cod which my mother thought was super and I had a very hearty authentic tasting boeuf bourguignon. Nice wine choices and a really very good Aperol spritz which most restaurants get completely wrong. The restaurant was full and felt very buzzy and we had a fab time. Very pleased with this restaurant and hope it does well. Lots of competition currently in Cambridge but has a lot going for it and should do well if it keeps its high standards.
Delicious food and great location, decor, and menu
Second brunch at the Senate and it is becoming my favourite place for brunches :) The food is excellent, the staff very nice and the place lovely.
My Advisory Board loved the location and the food. Thank you for making them so welcome.
Nice ambience and good quality good. Good wine list and nice for either a casual coffee or a special dinner.
I read the menu carefully and selected "Wild mushrooms & shallot gnocchi with red pesto, wilted spinach & parmesan (v)."
As I generally avoid dairy I asked for the additional parmesan to be left off which it was.
The dish would have been fine (even if for example some parmesan had been included in the "red pesto"). But the gnocchi were swimming in a nasty glutinous white goo - utterly revolting. Lemon juice and olive oil would have been delicious. I found it inedible, so I basically paid £10 for a handful of rocket.
Otherwise, nice atmosphere, good service and my friend enjoyed his food.
Great service, food and wine choices all excellent. Cosy, relaxed atmosphere. Would definitely recommend
I met my friend for lunch. The table was great. The atmosphere was good, the food was good but the chicken for my main was over cooked. The soup was superb and I would come back just for that! I’m looking forward to coming back in the evening.
Food good, service good, ambiance nice. Wine quite good as well.
I reserved a table for me and my friends to celebrate. It was very quiet and cosy, almost empty, which made it perfect for us to catch up over delicious wine and sharing boards. The service was great, with servers very attentive and helpful. We stayed for a long time and enjoyed every minute of it. The location and interior of the venue is so charming and atmospheric, I’ll definitely visit again.
Lovely spot. Very good food and delightful service.
Very friendly staff , a relaxed cosy bistro feel with good wine and comfort food for a cold day.
We would return if in Cambridge again.
When we arrived we were greeted warmly by the two young ladies and shown to our table which was by the window .The staff were very friendly and the food was good plenty of it especially the sharing platters normally you would only get a couple of pieces of bread with a platter but there was enough to keep our husbands happy The restaurant filled up quickly and the ambiance was good.Would certainly visit again
Very good value 3-course lunchtime menu and nicely presented food, all very tasty. Heartily recommend the chocolate mousse which is 'proper' and not the usual pseudo chocolate mousse. Lovely surprise from the first mouthful and just the right amount. Very happy with our choice and would recommend. Not quite the upmarket restaurant I expected from the website, but pleasantly surprised by the quality of the food and the excellent service.
We dined off the pre-theatre menu and just managed to fit in two courses. The food was of good quality, unfortunately two of us chose the Gnocchi with mushrooms in a cream and red pesto sauce, which was far too rich to be enjoyable. We thought the wine was expensive for the quality but it's been a while since we've dined out in central Cambridge. The staff were friendly and efficient and the atmosphere pleasant compared to many of the alternatives nearby. The stairs down to the toilets are very steep and awkward.
My first visit which was for a friends birthday lunch. Had a lovely table by the window. Staff were very friendly and attentive. The set lunch menu was really good value and delicious. We managed to leave some bags but they rang me as soon as they realised which We really appreciated. Will definitely return. Thank you!
great experience all round good vegetarian options although expensive for vegetable dishes especially when you have to pay extra for even more veg .staff and service brilliant
Very nice food, service friend and fast and enjoyed the wine of the day
Lovely anniversary lunch. Great service and lovely food
Too many tables for the kitchen to cope with. Service took an hour! Would not go back.
The food was delicious, but side of fries didn't arrive until the main was almost finished, and no apologies were made by the waitress. The house wine was lovely and the ambience was very charming.
The menu is not extensive but caters for everyone, and the food was really very good. Excellent selection of wines from around the world. Really good service. Just a tiny bit noisy, but then again I like quiet restaurants more than lively ones.
Really tasty and not too expensive
I booked a table for 2.15pm as I was meeting a friend to have lunch. We arrived on time and hungry! We were met by a friendly young lady and were able to choose our seating as the place was quiet, the usual lunchtime tourist had already gone. We chose our meals and drink and only waited a few minutes before it was served. My friend had Chicken Caesar salad while I had the Smoked Trout salad, both meals were fresh and delicious, absolutely spot on. We stayed longer than planned as it was so nice to be able to talk without raising our voices.
The service was quick but we didn't feel rushed at all. Overall a really nice place to be.
A little cosy, but otherwise excellent food and very friendly staff. Good balance of having very nice food and interesting dishes, but not being too pretentious or stuffy - a welcoming, relaxed atmosphere.
The food and service were good, but not exceptional and so the relatively high price didn't feel to be great value for money. There was nothing wrong with our orders (prawns/cheese starters and steak and lamb mains) but I think you can eat just as well at a lower price in Cambridge. The interior is quite nice and rustic, but it still carries the feel of a café, rather than a bistro.
First visit to Senate on a warm balmy evening. We sat outside, people watched and ate comfortably. Service was attentive, friendly and efficient. Menu offered wide selection. We had chicken burger and prawn starter. Prices were reasonable. Worth going again though not sure what it would be like inside.
Very enjoyable on both occasions. Two summer nights.
The great thing about The Senate is that you have a choice of sitting in or out. Either way, it's a great experience, the staff are terrific and the ambience just right. For people-watching it's probably the best spot in Cambridge
Great atmosphere with a fantastic view. We ended up ordering far too much food as we couldn't decide between all the choices.
Service was great. The right amount of attention, so that I could have a long catch-up with a friend while nibbling food slowly and at the same time whenever I needed to order something else there was always someone to hand.
Will absolutely be returning.
Great food and service. Thanks!
This restaurant has a beautiful view across to Kings college and opposite a very noisy(bells) but beautiful church. The food was good, the atmosphere was lovely, and the facilities are well taken care of. My Australian friends liked it. I would definitely go back.
It was satisfactory - food was ok but arrived too quickly for a relaxed dinner. Quite pricey.
First time at this newish restaurant, and we had a really nice meal. Still family run; we were told that the owner is the son of the previous owner of "Aunty's".
Chorizo and Halloumi starters were both delicious, and it was hard to choose from a tempting range on the menu.
We would definitely return.
Great tapas lunch
Fine, but not more than fine.
