Unpretentious cafe come restaurant. Good service and really tasty, well cooked food with some interesting flavour combinations.

Fantastic meal in a good central Cambridge location. We sat in the rear of the restaurant which was nice, but very hot owing to proximity to the kitchen - would ask to sit in front in future. Food decent value and portions were huge. Had no room for dessert on this occasion so will definitely be back, as there were at least three things on the dessert menu I’d like to try!

Thursday pre theatre lunch time visit. This is a small restaurant in a great position in the centre of Cambridge. Calamari and dip with salad shared starter was the best we've had. I had the king prawn and chorizo linguine - disappointed with only four previously frozen prawns and a few slices of chorizo - the sauce was ok. My husband had the pork belly which he really enjoyed. The wine was very good and nice to be offered a carafe rather than a whole bottle or glass. The ice table water was a welcome free accompaniment. Service was good - however the waitress who kept having to close the front entrance door seemed to be stressed - perhaps it would be a good idea to invest in a self close door. Would definitely visit again.

Tried the restaurant for lunch before going to the theatre, food was very good and staff friendly but professional, we enjoyed our lunch so returned after the theatre for dinner. We could not fault the food. The experience added to a brilliant day out in Cambridge. Thank you to The Senate.

This was a delightful, intimate restaurant overlooking Kings College in Cambridge. The food was lovely and the service was excellent. A really happy experience!

Service was great. Starter was perfect, reason for 4 stars is that there was way too much salt on my main course. Such a shame, probably an honest mistake but not 5 star. Nice ambiance.

Very pleasant. Would have liked a few more vegetables served with the meal although we did order extras.

Food was good and the service very friendly and attentive. Only negative was that the fondant potato was a little “firm” and the crackling with the pork belly not really crisp. The starters, calamari and raclette were very nice and my mains, ox cheeks was awesome. Would definitely go again if I didn’t live over 100 miles away.

Great little place... seemingly better to book as gets quite busy... good selection on menu, served quickly... all round excellent....

Lovely lunch visiting our daughter in Cambridge. Device was excellent and nothing was too much trouble.

Visited the Senate last Saturday. Very impressed with the food and quality of service. We were seated just inside the front door (chilly draft when customers were entering and leaving) and it was quite noisy but the meal was superb.

We enjoyed tasty meal in a convenient and interesting location next to Great St Mary's, and we were well looked after throughout by the friendly staff.

Outstanding views of Great St Mary's and the Senate House. Service was friendly and efficient. Food excellent.

An opportunity to catch up with friends. A convenient location with a brilliant vantage point where, depending upon your table, you can watch the world go by as well as the inevitable instagrammed.... The menu was thankfully different to your usual chain offerings, varied and tasty. The service was very good - attentive without being overpowering. Plan to return again in the future.

Loved this restaurant, small enough to feel intimate and exclusive, but not so small that you lose the ambiance and feel watched.
I’d describe the food as something very special, for the quality (taste and look) you get real value for money. I had Beef cheeks which were delicious and beautifully tender - there were 4 of us for dinner, we all had something different and all found our choices wonderful. Great place for couples and adult family dining.

The Senate is quite simply our favourite restaurant in Cambridge. The food is top notch and the staff couldn’t be more friendly. It has a lovely, cosy atmosphere where everyone seems to have a great time!

Excellent food and wine. Could be a bit more on the plate though. We had a main and a glass of wine each. The service was extremely good and super friendly.

A small, unpretentious restaurant in Cambridge, with a view to King's College, and a nice outdoor area for dining the good weather. We had a late lunch, so we were the only people there, but the food was great and the service warm and friendly. We particularly liked the a la carte menu, making it possible to eat a lighter lunch than some of the other places in town.

The food at The Senate was good! The service however was the worst any of us had received in a long time! The attitude of the staff was also pretty poor throughout the evening, despite us leaving a generous tip - wish we hadn't bothered now!
Such a shame as there are so many other lovely restaurants we could have chosen for a friends birthday dinner instead. Will not be back!!
