Very good atmoshere and a good range of food, and local beers. Staff were very attentive. Menu had enough variety to suit most tastes and diets. Not the cheapest place though, but I would go again.
The service was rather chaotic although the staff were pleasant. Some people who came after us were served their food before we even had orders taken! Food was mistakenly brought to us before we had eaten which had been ordered by others present.
We had ordered a light lunch as a joint starter but the mains arrived before the starter. When the starter was brought, some chips ordered as a side with the main, came at the same time.
The food was good and the waitress did not take umbrage at our protestations about food arriving in such a chaotic way so we left more satisfied with things than we were 15 minutes after arriving.
Excellent welcome, plenty of space between tables due to Covid.
The service was very attentionate and the food was delicious. The Pie of the Day was incredible! ANd the choice of ales was also great.
Sunday roast was delicious. The staff was very friendly and I must mention Herry the assistant manager was very helpful he does his job very well .
Very nice food- best pub roast ive ever had! Book well in advance
The best roast we have ever eaten in a pub. We both had the roast pork which was to die for! Where did you get that meat??? Just a shame we have to drive as we could have stayed all afternoon. Thank you all
food was excellent as usual,
My only feedback would be the dessert menu was limited I really wanted a sticky toffee pudding or brownie.
The food was great and though service started well, it trailed off during the evening. We would go back!
A flash menu but not the best quality for the price
Quirky old pub with good atmosphere. Doing their best under COVID restrictions. Food good though not much choice, especially for vegetarians.. Set with the beautiful Downs as a backdrop, stunning in Autumn. Worth a run for the view on the way. Would recommend.
Super tasty pub grub - I had the lamb pie and it was delicious! My partner really enjoyed his burger too. We were in the little barn extension and it felt a bit separate from the rest of the pub, but other than that, excellent!
Food was delicious and service brilliant. Chips not so crispy but still great
Our food was very tasty, fresh and delicious.
Service was professional, courteous and efficient.
Looking forward to going back.
Average food - burger was burnt. Nice beers available and service is good
Disappointed that we sat in the annex. But it was busy and we should have accounted for half term. The amount of children at various tables also meant that the noise levels were higher than i would have liked. Couldn't fault the food or drinks menu, although perhaps a second waiter/waitress would have help as the tables in the annex seemed fully booked.
Lovely village pub good service will visit again
Excellent new and service - will definitely come back
Lovely food and great service. Would love to return in the summer to sit out in the beautiful garden.
Lovely and full of charming character. Was blowing a gale outside and an open fire would have been lovely as we were slightly chilly. Service fairly slow as they were busy and no condiments offered.
Beer menu was fantastic.
Overall a classy period pub with a good menu
A really great roast , great atmosphere and really good , decent attentive service. We will be back soon.
Lovely meal , plenty of food !

Food very good
Overall very pleased
Organized extremely well in the current climate, friendly staff, great food and atmosphere!
Spent a lovely afternoon catching up with a friend while sat in the COVID friendly barn dining area. Food and service were spot on. Couldn’t fault anything. The location is otherworldly also!
Really lovely setting and great food. A bit pushy with service as only have two hour slot but overall would highly recommend!
Lovely atmosphere. Really friendly and efficient service. Tasty food and lots of options for gluten free- amazing to find gluten free fish and chips! Thank you.
Really nice pub. Great beers and great food. Recommended.

Delicious food. Lovely staff and setting. Can’t fault it
Felt very safe, staff were very attentive and friendly. The food was gorgeous.
Very well organised
Lovely pub in beautiful surroundings
Food was served quickly and was very tasty.
Amazing Sunday Lunch
Fantastic staff and great covid safety Strategies
Will definitely be back
We've been to the Shepherd & Dog a few times now and love the location, the look and feel of the pub. They've had to make quite a few changes due to Covid and these worked well, however it just slightly missed the mark value for money and food wise. We went for Sunday dinner which looked good on the menu, albeit rather expensive and it was just okay. A meat roast will set you back £18, and you only received 3 roasties, 1/2 a full length carrot, a handful of greens and some red cabbage, plus a yorkshire pud. It just seemed a little poor for the cost.
Food was incredible. The staff is very friendly and fast. We enjoyed having lunch there and my kids loved the food as well
booked a table for 4 for lunch - when we arrived they put us in the new Barn extension which was quite noisy with kids. Asked to move and found a nice table by the inglenook fireplace in the old part of the pub.
ordered humus and mixed bread starter to share which were quite small.
We all had a Sunday Roast - which was lovely. Nicely cooked beef sirloin and huge yorkshire pudding, nice roast potatoes.
Waitress was very helpful and attentive.
Would go back again for sure.
