I love coming to this pub. Really nice food and lovely service. Had a great time again!
It was a quiet midweek evening, but service was very personal and attentive. Beer was great, so too was my friend's meal.
The pork and cider pie was one of the best I've ever eaten
It took 50 minutes from our arrival to food arriving.
I ordered mushrooms in a cream sauce. When it arrived I took one mouthful and could taste raw garlic. I asked if this was the case and, without directly answering the question, it was removed. I was told three times I should have told them I had an allergy, which I don't. I simply cannot digest raw garlic and, since it was not on the list of ingredients, it did not occur to me to ask. My husband ate his meal and we left, being charged 50% for the mushrooms and being told, once again, that I should have told them. I left with the clear understanding that it was my fault. Sham.
Very nice country pub with reasonably priced food and a nice selection of drinks .The staff were very attentive , friendly and efficient.
Great choice of beers and knowledgeable server, recommended 2 and let me try before buying , ended up with an excellent sour beer that I had never had before . Mushrooms for lunch always a winner for me . Will go back soon and take others !
This was our first meal out of home since lockdown began and the large, pretty outdoor areas meant we could eat in plenty of space. There were also arrows to ensure people followed the correct rout in and out. the only concern in terms of safety was that staff weren't wearing masks of any kind which i was surprised by. All the waiting staff were lovely though.
Our Sunday roasts were excellent, packed with flavour and a good selection of veg. At £17 or £18 they are more expensive than I'm used to in Brighton but worth it for a treat.
Great selection of beers too.
Very pretty place to go but parking limited nice pleasant staff and good food thanks
Got invited here for Sunday lunch.
I can’t recommend this place enough.
I’ll be returning again soon.
The front of house/ Manager/ Waitor is so accommodating and friendly. Always receive the best service from all of the restaurant team. Looking forward to going again.
I enjoyed a lovey birthday lunch with my sister in a beautiful setting with no worries about social distancing. Food was delicious and the ambience was perfect. Over £6 for a medium white wine spritzer was a bit steep but as it was a special occasion I didn't mind too much. I do love this pub and would recommend it to anyone!
Visited whilst on holiday. Had the fish n chips which was to die for. So delicious and well presented. Friendly staff and good atmosphere.
We used to come to the Shepherd and Dog regularly when we lived in Fulking. As we were in the vicinity we decided to come even though the reviews online were not great. In fact our meals were all extremely good. If we have a complaint it was that the portions were too big. As my wife told our server the fish was as good as we had eaten ar Rick Stein’s a few days earlier.
Excellent Excellent Excellent Excellent Excellent Excellent
One of the best fish and chips ever, very good service from a lad who had just started that day and was being taught the ropes by a very attentive landlord.
I have been coming to this pub for fifty years on and of and have nether been disappointed who ever has been the landlord it’s a great place for kids and adults alike
Consistently great food and service - have managed to crate a feeling of normalcy in a very strange time.
We hadn't been to this pub to eat for a while and overall left a bit disappointed. We ordered a Ploughmans which was fine, but the vegetarian mushroom dish was essentially mushrooms on toast and pricey for what we received, as was the Wagu burger which seemed like any other burger meal but cost £15 plus. We all felt the pub needs to try a bit harder if the quality is going to match the price. The setting is still lovely under the Downs.
The Covid 19 measures were ok, but we would have liked to see the serving staff in masks
Food cooked to perfection, well balanced and seasoned, great ingredients. food portions generous but not wasteful, beautiful country setting. attentive, friendly and efficient service
Food was okay. Service was totally unacceptable, food arrived 50 minutes after order and wrong food came. This meant that my husbands food was left on the hot plate while my order was rushed to be made. Would not recommend.
I was disappointed with the choice and quality of food as I had amazing food previously. There were only 4 main choices of which one was sold out, leaving only 3 choices for main course.
Lovely place, friendly, efficient and wow what a spot. A little pricey but justified by the location
The garden menu is not at all child-friendly. There are no alternative options. We left sooner than we would have liked to because all three children were hungry, The ambience was lovely however and the staff super-friendly and helpful,.
Eat out to help out bargain. The pie of the day was to die for. I would have paid the £16 for it. Beer also excellent.
Fantastic service and food/drinks, great ambience and an appropriate level of social distancing, etc.
Amazing food as always. Loved the garden bbq menu.
Second time visiting this pub for roast dinner. Unfortunately the food has gone down in expectations but stayed at the same (very high) price. I had the veggie wellington which was still nice but nothing special. Others had the roast beef, pork and vegan roast and no one was blown away. Maybe their chef has changed? As previously everyone really enjoyed the food. The wine was very disappointing, both the house red and the Chardonnay which cost £26 per bottle were terrible. The best thing they have going for them is the positioning and could definitely do with a revamp of the wine menu and food. Hopefully they sort this out for next visit!
The pork belly roast and all the veg and gravy was deliscous. My friend had the wild mushroom and squash basket hich was a little disappointing. She'd expected the filling to be more substantial and more combine, perhaps with a sauce.
Other than that everything else was perfect!
Wonderful pre hike Sunday roast - lovely quick friendly service and the food was out of this world. Fabulous Sunday roast, great burger and great beer and wine list. Thankyou! Will be back
Totally amazing experience. We had a dreamy walk with friends from London then absolutely incredible service to boot. Four adults and five kids... could have been a nightmare but our waitress made all of us feel so comfortable, calm and relaxed. It felt like being served in my own home! Thank you so much for making it a really memorable experience for us all.
The staff are exceptionally helpful, attentive even when v busy and happy and that makes such a difference. We ate inside with friends and took our little doggies without any issues. Next day we ate outside and full table service which was exceptional. All following Covid-19 guidance. Chapeau!!
Lovely evening food was excellent especially the chips.
A lovely afternoon T the pub, delightful service and friendly staff. Delicious food and all very welcoming
Wonderful food and amazing service. The staff were very kind, attentive and made the evening unforgettable. A wonderful experience all around!
Shepherd & Dog Fulking,
good food, good service
Had read mixed reviews, some saying food gone downhill and overpriced.
We thought we would give it a go as looked like a nice pub and is fairly local.
We were celebrating our wedding Anniversary so was hoping for a nice time as is more expensive than out usual trip out.
Unfortunately the reviews were spot on, food is way overpriced for what is on offer.
I had a burger which was £18, I actually think this is the most expensive burger I have ever had and was pretty standard too be honest. Chips were way too big...
I was going too complain but I am not one to make a fuss, at the end of the day it’s one meal and I’ll get over.
The food wasn’t terrible but the price is way too expensive for what you get.
I know it's a very difficult time for anyone in the catering business, and getting staff to return to work isn't easy, so minor delays in serving food are to be expected and understood but I do think a little more time could be spent on keeping the place clean. Bits of food left on the floor just don't create the right impression, but maybe that was just a minor glitch. We will definitely go back again, we know it's usually so much better.
Very nice area, Good sized pub / restaurant. Tasty food
Great pub. Highly recommend. Good food and service. Lovely location.
Great food. Great service. Not sure about the social distancing!
