The Shepherd always offers a fantastic range of meals for very reasonable prices. Food is always quick and top quality and the staff are always incredibly friendly and efficient. They are also dog friendly which is a big bonus for us as we have a little puppy. One of our favourite pubs for sure!
The food was delicious & the staff were friendly & attentive.
It was quite quiet, being early on a Thursday evening, but there were other diners & a couple of group having a socially distanced gathering.
This is a fantastic local pub and restaurant. Great modern country decor and imaginative menu. Friendly service and lots of daily specials. It was quieter than normal on the first day of Essex tier two status so lacked some of the buzz it normally has, but the waitress couldn’t have been more helpful. Good for seafood (crayfish, moules, fish and chips) but the meat is equally good. The short rib beef was oozing with flavour and succulence. Good local ales on tap. No room for dessert sadly but their own blend of coffee was full of flavour and would beat any high street chain any day.
Take your household bubble here while you can!
Had another fabulous meal here Saturday night you will never leave this place hungry . Lamb shank was excellent as was everything else eaten . Huge portions as well .Will be back soon delicious food and great staff .
Nice atmosphere in the pub / restaurant. Made to feel very welcome. Good choice of menu &very reasonably priced. Food was delicious. Nothing to complain about. Will definitely recommend & be back
Absolutely delicious food, vary accommodating staff, great atmosphere and reasonably priced. We’ll definitely be returning!
Great family meal on a Saturday night .Great choice great service and great food was very happy indeed .
We went for Sunday lunch as a celebration for our wedding anniversary. It was quiet but thats Ok - feels much safer if there are not too many people there. The Sunday lunch menu was good, we went for starters and main and shared a pudding. Lots of meat and veg and very tasty, the only slight issue was my husband's beef was a little sinewy so difficult to cut, but tasty once you'd managed to cut it. Mine was a bit easier to cut and cooked just how I like it.
Lovely little pub in a great setting! Food was superb and catered extremely well for my non diary and gluten free dietary restrictions! Staff friendly and an enjoyable evening was had. Will be back again!
The chef had left but we weren’t told which was a shame as we took friends there
An evening out with my sister - we were looking for somewhere local, quiet and reliable and that's what we got. They are trying out a new menu which was a little disappointing because we'd got our hearts set on an absolutely brilliant lamb dish that we had last time, but we needn't have worried as the new options were good.
I'd definitely recommend a visit.
Excellent Sunday lunch and service. Busy so noise levels were quite high, but this would not deter me from going again.
Only a limited menu available due to problems in the kitchen that we were not told about until we were given menus.
Service was extremely slow, meals arrived cold and wish we had left before ordering.
We cannot recommend this restaurant and will definitely not be returning.
Valentines dinner. Impeccable service and food. Well worth the price.
We live in Frinton and eat out on a regular basis and always looking for new places. Found the shepherd on your site and thought let’s give it a go. Turned up early to have a drink and I loved the look of the place. Went to the bar and the staff were very friendly and polite. Sat and had our drink when finished I asked could we go to our table. Once at the table we ordered our food. The staff just seemed to be in disarray, coming out asking people what did you order! Our starter come up on a platter plate put in the middle of the table. We were not offered separate plates for me and my wife so we had to both hade to eat off the platter board put in the middle of the table!!!. Our main course come up which was shoulder of pulled lamb kebab. To say it was over cook was an under statement. It was that over cooked I couldn’t get my fork in it. Then to top it off my bill had other people’s drinks on it that had been charged to me. Really sad because it looks a lovely place and the staff were great, but they were just all over the place and the kitchen was very unorganised.
This seems to be a pub trying to justify a prefix of gastro but not quite hitting the mark.
We went on a Friday at 7pm, not too busy, but a nice buzz about the place. However the service was a bit sub par. Having taken our order (badly, they had to come back and check when they muddled things up), we then received a bottle of wine we had ordered to the table. This was left sitting there unopened for about 15 minutes. When I finally walked up to the bar (because absolutely no one was interested in us catching their eye!) and asked someone to come and open the bottle I was met with no real response, no "sorry, of course no problem" just blank looks. I went and sat down and another 5 minutes passed and I had to go up again, this time to request a bit more forcefully that perhaps they should open our wine. Only then did a young lady appear with a corkscrew to do the necessary. Really quite unacceptable.
The menu itself was a bit overworked and pricey given what and where it was. Again when ordering the service let them down. A member of our party ordered lamb and was told "that will come pink". Not a question, not checking that was okay, just a statement, and when it was indicated that actually they would prefer it well done, this took a couple of tries to get agreement that it could be accommodated.
Having said all of this it should be stated that when the arrived food it really did redeem the experience somewhat. They clearly have someone in the kitchen who really knows what they are doing and all of us enjoyed our starters and mains very much.
By they end we felt that we had eaten well enough but the whole evening was a bit of a let down. The service wasn't great, friendly enough, but just inept and the place itself was far too warm.
Overall I wouldn't recommend this place based on our experience, there are other country pubs doing this kind of food far better and with much more charm for much more reasonable prices in the area.
We had roast beef and roast lamb main courses. The food was incredibly tasty and we will definitely return
Superb food and really helpful staff! Will come again and pass the word on
We went for the Vegan Night, and the food was exceptional. Service was lovely, with all staff polite and friendly. Will definitely be back, especially if the Vegan Night returns!
We came here for a vegan night, having never been here before.
They were fully booked up, but everyone was till on the ball and it didn't feel too crowded.
It is a little in the middle of nowhere, but still very easy to get to, and quite a bit of parking available.
We really enjoyed our evening, and hope they will do another vegan night, or at least consider adding some of the DELICIOUS dishes served.
We went with some friends and all had great meals, we all said how well the food was cooked and presented and the variety of tastes with each dish we excellent. This is really good quality food at reasonable prices. They had a good selection of drinks and the staff were friendly and helpful. Having a bar area too meant there was a good mix of people locals and visitors which made the atmosphere good, like a traditional pub with restaurant.
Certainly one not to miss and we will be going back again soon.
Food gets better every time we come! Especially enjoyed the pumpkin dish as it was very tasty indeed!
Fabulous menu, very different for a local pub however thoroughly enjoyable!
An excellent couple of hours with nice food and very helpful staff my wife is highly allergic to garlic and they went through all the menu with us so we could see what she could and what she couldn’t eat very pleasant indeed
Lovely food. The menu is quite different and unexpected. We were pleasantly surprised.
Bet food at this price point in the whole of essex so far. Really high quality cookery here, for very reasonable prices. Topped with friendly service and a lovely atmosphere. Couldn't fault this place
Food and service were excellent however it could have been a little warmer in the dining area and we weren’t very impressed with the live music.
Fabulous food, very good service we will be going back and taking friends.
Had a fantastic meal at The Shepherd Langham this weekend. 3 adults and 2 kids, two adults had the plaice and I had the Shepherds Pie with rump of lamb. Food was outstanding and the waiting staff were excellent. We shall be back!
Great food as always. Staff always friendly but not in your face. Friday night is made for fish & chips & The Shepard never disappoints. A wide range of beer, ales & wine, so something for everyone. Will be back soon, again. Thank you.
Starter and Main Course was lovely, although when asked about side orders the waitress recommended that I order some chips and not veg... however my meal then turned up with potato on it... I would have instead preferred some veg!
Dessert (Choc cake) was a little dry and for £6.50 would have benefited from some sauce!
Overall though we had a lovely evening and would definitely visit again
Busy pub restaurant with noise from the bar & sadly sat next to bar main entrance but the food was excellent and very reasonably priced. I would visit again but request a table further in the restaurant
Excellent food service would definitely go back . Lovely atmosphere and nice decor . Staff were very friendly and could not do enough for us
Whilst the food welcome service were all first class and the general feel was excellent my only gripe was the guy on the keyboard which kind of became a distraction while trying to talk normally, which meant that everyone had to talk more loudly generating more noise . A small thing which won’t mean I don’t book again but I did find annoying.
My wife is vegan and gluten intolerant and I was lovely having a menu that catered for her needs, not just a meal of veg but a proper meal.
Great food just a pity we were only customers
Had an incredible Sunday roast, staff were very friendly and helpful, when made aware of a guest being dairy free created 3 customs dessert options for them so as to not miss out
The desert was not good value the rest of the food was really tasty and good
Always great food here. This place has become a regular go to for me for Sunday lunch.
Sorry to see that the skate wasn’t on menu so I went for the plaice instead. Roast dinner as usual very good!
More staff on this week so a better experience in this regard.
Nice location and good food. They listened to our wishes about the food
