We serve modern British pub food which is all homemade, fantastic real ales & quality wines, in a relaxing family friendly environment. Food is served every
lunch & evening Monday to Saturday with a great Sunday lunch served until 5pm.
Quality food with some unusual and intense flavours. Plates that if served on white linen in a posh restaurant would not look out of place. Really good gastro-pub.
The food and wine are both excellent value for money. The service was prompt, friendly and engaging.
I would ask for a table in the smaller lounge which is quieter than the main restaurant.
We regular dine at The Marquis in Layham, The [new] Marlborough In Dedham, the Crown and Angel in Nayland and we would thoroughly recommend the Shepaherd.
Wow.. We popped along to The Sheperd on Saturday evening for dinner with friend's.
Booked online at the last minute which was so easy to do.
A great selection of beers, ales, wine & fizz at reasonable prices.
The food was way above your average pub food. Presentation was oustanding so hat's off to the chefs. Waiting staff were friendly & so nice that they know about the food that they're serving.
We will certainly be back & looking forward to it. Thanks team Shepherd
Fantastic food wonderful staff looked we went with our 3 year-old kids menu as good as ours could not fault it
Really lovely food at decent prices. Would definitely recommend to anyone. Have been several times and consistent each time.
Lovely country pub very friendly, attentive staff . Excellent service. Lovely food. Would definitely recommend.
We went as a family and enjoyed a very nice meal, not a huge selection but we all enjoyed what we ordered. We will definitely be going again.
Once again the Shepherd has surpassed it's self. The food and service excellent.
Went on Friday night , the food was very average, my husband had pork belly to start this was cold , bit size pieces which didn’t taste very good at all , fish and chip for many which was very average to , the menu all sounds good but put in to reality doesn’t work , to many combinations, stick to plan pub food with good quality produce would be better
Excellent Sunday lunch, but only one vegetarian option.
Sunday roast was lovely, the fish pie was stodgy. Poor choice of meals for vegetarians.
Took friends here for a second visit after first failed visit.
So glad we did as the Food was superb and the service was top class.
We will definitely be revisiting here again very soon.
They try to be a foodie pub, but not quite deliver. The smoked chicken stew was more of a broth than a stew. Gravy lacked depth of flavour. Chicken was ok and had right balance of smokiness. Would try again.
Had a great evening with live music. Food and service was very good. Definitely recommend.
Amazing roast dinner, one of the best we’ve had however service was lacking slightly. Although the staff were very friendly, we had to remind them on a few occasions we were still waiting on drinks/menus.
I’ve been meaning to visit the restaurant for a long time and after booking online early that day it was one of the best meals I’ve had.
I will be back very shortly
Lovely food ,good service ,good staff would go back
Restaurant was very small and cosy, just 4 tables. Menu was interesting and food was well cooked and presented. Steak was tender and cooked to perfection, deserts were too much of a temptation and did not disappoint. Overall a very good quality meal at a reasonable price. I would definitely recommend The Shepherd.
Food was good but not exceptional bearing in mind that the prices are higher than the average pub in this region. Squabbling dogs were not a welcome background noise.
Wonderful Sunday lunch for 3 generations of the family.
The food was delicious and good value. It was nice to see such a wide choice of dishes.
We will definitely go again.
Fantastic meal with good service and live music. Everyone in my party enjoyed it.
Had a lovely meal with some friends and the food was really lovely and the staff were very good nothing was any trouble for them
I would definitely recommend this place
Well informed service. Really open that certain choices were running low . We had booked for four and ended up with five which was sorted without issue. Guidance on a shared platter when we waivered on starters was ideal and good up selling without any pressure. We will be back.
Great food, excellent service . Would definitely go there again.
We were there for an informal birthday lunch with a friend. Pleasant dining room. Very welcoming staff and good service and presentation. Interesting set lunch time menu. We surprised ourselves by having three courses. The main course of duck was cooked well but could have arrived at the table a little warmer. The vegetable selection was different but the kale needed a little more cooking. The starters and desserts were excellent. There's a good selection of wine by the glass -we had an easy to drink Merlot.
Food was great as good as anywhere I have been locally. Portion of Pie very generous. Taste was great Perfect seasoning of all food . Beautiful presentation and friendly on the ball service . So good.
Very impressive varied menu with high quality local ingredients. Friendly welcome and unhurried service. The visit of myself, my wife and son, his partner and our granddaughter was a memorable occasion and we shall return.
Food was well cooked but Piripiri flavour on poussin was none existent. Menu on internet excellent but in restaurant a4 piece of paper with about a third of the dishes on it.
The food was very good and the service was excellent. We were seated fairly near the bar area so it was a little noisier than I would have liked but equally there was a great atmosphere and I would certainly recommend The Shepherd.
Very pleasant evening. The waitress was passionate about her job and the place and keen we should enjoy our meal, which we did. Great choice of craft ales.
Delicious food, very friendly service, good garden. Very flexible in serving my son a starter which wasn’t on the usual Sunday menu. A little slow - but that’s not surprising given how busy a Sunday lunchtime it was. Will go again.
The Shepherd is my local but hopefully that does not make me bias!! All of the team are friendly and the atmosphere is relaxed but caring. The food is always good with a few "specials" in addition to the main menu. There is a changing range of well kept ales ( typically three) and of course lagers etc.. The wine list is good as well. This is a good place to try. Quite easy to get to. So.......good food, good beer, friendly and competent staff, contemporary layout....... what's not to like !!!
Our visit to The Shepherd was a very enjoyable experience from the welcome we received, the friendly service the attention to detail and the high quality, tasty and innovative food .
Beautiful country pub Suitable for all occasions!
Excellent food & service, would highly recommend, will be returning! Live music good
Lovely atmosphere, the food and the service was fantastic. Dogs are welcome and they are child friendly.
Attractive presentation of delicious food, interesting menu, friendly and courteous staff making extra effort, very pleasant interior design
Slow service even though pub was quiet. Fish pie OK but under-seasoned. Bangers & mash had 2 large lumps of hard, inedible potato. Complaint not dealt with properly. Can't think of a reason to go back.
I'd heard good things about this place, but overall we were not terribly impressed. The service was good but the food was (in our view) overpriced and not particularly good. We had the Sunday roast.
Every thing about the Shepherd is fabulous from its decor, friendliness to its food. Cannot recommend this restaurant highly enough love the place.
Great pub - dog friendly! Attentive staff and very good food!
