Very COVID safe. They make you put masks on every time a server comes to your table. Very quiet because tables are very very spread out. Way more than 6 feet in my opinion. Not the same atmosphere as before COVID but very safe and food was still good.
First time at The Smith, was there for Happy Hour and dinner. We were lucked into some great deals for oysters for a choice of three different types and good cocktails selection too.
The food was delicious. I had the Short Ribs Ragtoni and my friend ordered the Pot of Mussels with a side of fries. The service was on point and everyone was following COVID safety protocols as well. Atmosphere was great and perfect for any types of occasions, definitely will return again soon.
It was nice and the social distancing was welcoming.
I ordered the Caesar salad and oysters. The food was amazing. Not only do you get a glass bottle of water for your table when you are seated, but also a bottle of sparkling water as well. It was a nice touch. The restaurant is also very sensitive to the current Covid situation. The wait staff would not even come to the table to bring or collect anything unless you are wearing your mask. I did feel that was a bit much, but I appreciate the measure they are taking to keep their patrons and staff safe and healthy.
Everything was great. Hard to understand the staff that muffles at you to put your mask on when they approach. Otherwise food was great, service was swell, and the oysters and drink specials during happy hour were rad. Vday menu was perfect portions and delish.
Very safe and great dinner experience. Love the food and the service was spectacular.
Absolutely delightful brunch experience. Never disappointed.
Salmon with white beets, leeks, and potatoes was outstanding!
Food was very good and service was good too. Steak 🥩 was great 👍
Food was great, large portions, and the cocktails were delicious!
Due to COVID the restaurant only offered outdoor dining. For the outdoor dining there were heaters to keep you warm which did an OK job (it was 32 degrees). I had the short rib rigatoni, it was great. My boyfriend had the salmon and a salad. Both were very good. The service was also great.
The outdoor dining was nice especially because of the thermal heated lamps.
I went here before covid and had a great experience. But I went back Jan and I guess due to covid rh
They should take notes from NY one. Could be cleaner too.
We were there on New Years Eve and the server was clearly disinterested in the affair, just short of rude.
The outdoor set up was not the nicest.
Very disappointed don’t go there waist of money.
Food was excellent, but our waitress, unfortunately, needed more customer service training
The constant pulling masks up and down was very unpleasant. We provided a contact tracing information. Please start taking temperatures. Guest shouldn’t need to put their mask on while they are sitting at a table being served. I will not recommend dining here until the pandemic is over. We were supporting a friend that is currently fighting cancer, a very special occasion.
They are definitely socially distancing the tables and this was very enjoyable.
Staff was excellent, friendly and very knowledgeable. The food was excellent. Highly recommend the french toast for breakfast / brunch.
The fact that we have to constantly put our masks on and off while eating is extremely annoying
The Smith always has excellent service and foods. I have been there several times for important lunches. The only negative has sometimes been the noise level with the table spacing all the tile. This time with their excellent placement of tables due to the virus the noise level was almost quiet. It was wonderful in every way. Thank you!
We appreciated the extra precautions due to covid. The service was stellar and food was delicious.
It was a nice restaurant with a cool views and is very spacious for safe distancing dining.
I was ecstatic to reserve a table for Thanksgiving and was sadly disappointed once seated. The food was subpar, bland and the sides came out burnt. The only dish I can say was okay is the main dish in which I purchased the carved Turkey/Garlic Mash with Sautéed Spinach. I thought with the subpar meal received, we can at least enjoy dessert and sadly I was mistaken. The caramelized apple compote Ice Cream was subpar and there was if any apples in it at all. I have eaten here in the past and was truly shocked at the lack luster. We all agreed that next time we would rather cook our own dishes instead of spending money out for a meal :/.
The waiter kept calling me “brother” every time he addressed me. I assume because I’m African American he felt that this was appropriate; however, he did not address the white patrons as “dude” or anything like that. The waiter wasn’t black and probably was in his late twenties, but my son is around his age and none of his friends call me “brother” and I don’t expect someone in a restaurant to do that either. The staff needs to be taught how to address “all” patrons!
The food is delicious and the service is nice and attentive.
Thanksgiving dinner at Penn Quarter.
It was just ok. Butternut soup was lukewarm. Turkey potpie was tasty. Table sides and bread was average. Lacked flavor/seasoning. The decor needs a major upgrade. Chairs, tables and floor is cafeteria like. Quite uncomfortable. Hostess and Servers are friendly and pleasant. Not horrible but not impressive either.
I've been to The Smith in NYC and was looking forward to enjoying the food in DC like I did in NYC. I will say that the food experience is better in NYC than it was at this Smith in DC.
Food was "meh' and small portioned...I am wondering whether I was getting last weeks leftover short rib, debunked and practically grated over the rigatoni. When I asked for a side salad, they didn't have one and their version of one was field greens...JUST field greens. Didn't even have bleu cheese dressing!?! What restaurant does not have bleu cheese dressing? 3rd time there, 3rd time underwhelmed.
Loved the ambience. Food and drinks were great. Server was attentive. Loved visiting this place!
Nice outside seating. Burgers are great. Burgers are great.
Great Brunch menu, and fast, attentive service. The space is wonderful.
So it is Covid, and that comes with a lot of difficulty. We arrived about 10 minutes late for our reservation because parking is tough. We ordered drinks, appetizers and meals within 20 minutes of sitting down - the wait staff did not seem to be in a huge hurry, but our reservation was at 8:30, and we were hungry. We got our appetizers, all great. And drinks, all great. The waiter came to our table about half an hour after the appetizers were gone to tell us two of our dishes were no longer available. We ordered alternatives. Then he came back five minutes later to tell us that only two of our dinners would be coming out - for a table of 5, three of whom were very hungry college students. The waiter comped the two meals that were delivered, and the drinks, but it was around 10 by then and NOTHING was open, with it being Covid and all. So it was a bit of a disappointment. The staff was great - they were apologetic, but we had driven in from Cleveland, and hadn’t eaten since breakfast. I would recommend only early reservations.
Good food and good service with outdoor seating...
Just another great meal!
It was excellent. We were able to be seated at a window on a beautiful day. The fixed price menu is great for lunch.
This was our first time dining at The Smith, and it exceeded our expectations. The Mules were great and the food was excellent! I am gluten free and they were very accommodating in helping me to find something that would suit my needs. They have tables spread out with plenty of distance between them, both inside and outside, which made us feel at easy while dining. Overall, it was a great experience and we can't wait to dine there again!
Great food! Great Service and amazing atmostphere. One of my favorite spots in DC to grab a quick lunch.
Great, would definitely come back again!
Staff was rude, drink was incredibly weak and under poured. Did not stay for dinner.
