The Smith - U Street
i absolute love the brunch! it’s above all
21st Bday for daughter. Great ambience.
We ordered 2 appetizers. One was shrimp cocktail and the other was a dish of small crab balls. The shrimp was not fresh and likely frozen and thawed at some point prior to serving. The crab balls had no flavor, nor could we taste any crabmeat. This was our first time here and we won’t be going back. The service and atmosphere are OK, but I would much prefer going to LeDiplomat, Pearl Dive or Lupo Verde.
Chose The Smith for a sulfide bday dinner. Initially things were good, although there was 2 1/2 servers for our tables they came around VERY seldom, but cool. We order our food and after about 10 minutes we were told that they ran out of the Lobster but there was 1 lobster left. We agreed to give it to the bday girl (it was lobster Wednesday) it also wasn’t many people there. After we put in our NEW ORDER it took forever for the food to come out but it did and guess what, the bday girl didn’t receive her meal. We waited and waited, I hit up and spoke to the manger because a server NEVER came back, and waited. Finally it came but it was about 25 min after we were finished eating. The manager was great in accommodating us and a taking care of the bill but it left a horrible taste in our mouths.
I would say this restaurant was ok. They were very accommodating for our friend with food sensitivities. based on the service at the hostess desk and the whole meal being charged on my card even though we were splitting I would not be super excited to go there again.
Great food and enjoyable atmosphere. Venue was a bit loud, which made it hard to have conversation and hear our waitress.
Great place, highly recommend it for date are intimate meal.
Filet Mignon was very overpriced for the quality and the taste. Loaded with fries that just made the dish seemed cheap. Scallop was ok but oyster was not worth the price. Tiny and flavorless
Very friendly staff, great drinks and food!
We had a lovely table by the window with friendly service.
Very noisy. Steamed mussels were a generous portion, but the mussels themselves could not be tasted because they were completely overwhelmed by the sauce. Salad with “sugar snap peas” in its title had no discernible pea pods. $34 for a half-liter of house rosé seemed excessive.
Good service good food, great prices. Good brunch deal as well
Good friend visiting from ATL, and with ATL having so many great breakfast/brunch spots, I had to show off a bit #TheSmith
Great service and anbience
The Smith was excellent in accommodating my group of 12 for brunch this past weekend! They were able to adjust meals for some of our guests' dietary restrictions and the food and drinks were great. I'd definitely recommend the Smith for brunch.
my new go-to place. I"m there several times each week and so happy it has opened in my neighborhood. They treat me like I am really valued.
Great decor and service! The place was very clean. Our server Jennifer was very nice and professional. The food was sooooo good and fresh. I will definitely go back again.
Too loud, to the point of unbearable. Needs sound proofing.
Fantastic brunch spot with many delicious options and a complimentary brunch cocktail included! Great for groups; I often bring DC visitors here because it is a crowd pleaser. Highly recommend the Sicilian baked eggs! Spicy, tasty, and substantive (and complex enough that I don't want to make it at home).
Excellent service, vibrant atmosphere, and the steaks are perfection!
We had a great meal with awesome service! Thanks for a wonderful dining experience!
Had a wonderful evening. We all enjoyed our food and we had a great waiter named Darren.
Wonderful service. Wonderful food.
Our waiter was fantastic
Mac and cheese was amazing—beautiful bar!
This place was excellent. The service was amazing and so was the food. Would highly recommend & will be returning!
Great food, great service. Very loud atmosphere, hard to hear conversation at our own table or any information the waiter was relaying.
Third time at the smith, loved the food the first two times but was a little disappointed the third. Ordered the pizza called the sauce and it had no.... sauce! Waffles were dry. In the past the salted caramel pancakes have been the bomb.
Sound level is horrible here. Need fabric or foam under table to absorb the sound level. Hard to talk to one another
Great place for lunch and good lunch specials. Would definitely recommend the restaurant to friends. Looks like a great place for happy hour and dinner as well.
Great Service. Food was fantastic. Chocolate Cookies..mmmmm!
Overall good food and vibe. Went here for brunch on Mothers' Day with 5 others and the service was a bit slow, but the food was pretty good. While I was sure to make a reservation 3 weeks in advance, we did have to wait 10 minutes or so for them to seat us. Would definitely recommend getting the mac and cheese, it is very indulgent and very good. The bone-in rib-eye steak is also decent, definitely not the best in town, but its tasty. Also, the sticky toffee pudding is a real treat to top it all off.
Worst restaurant meal in a long time. Fifty-five minutes from the time we placed our order until our starters arrived. Entrees arrived barely warm two minutes later. Pasta was ridiculously over-sauced. Tart was overly doughy with very little strawberry-rhubarb. Obviously, we will not return there.
Graduation party and there were 11 of us. They had us packed in so tightly, that we had to ask for another table so that we could all fit.
Loud but good food.
Great service and food. Lobster and fried chicken was like that!
Great food. Great ambience. Had a good time.
Food was good but nothing out of this world. The brunch cocktail was actually quite nice and delicious. Service was poor and coffee stale. The Smith needs to install some noise panels to absorb sound because the crescendo of voice was unbearable. To be honest, I won’t be booking there for a weekend brunch again anytime soon.
The service was comically bad. It felt like we were on one of those TV shows where they install candid cameras and observe the staff/service before coming in and yelling at everyone and transforming the place.
We sat at our booth for over 20 minutes before someone stopped by.
After 20 minutes, we ordered black coffee. It took another 20 minutes for the coffee to come. So, ~40 minutes in, we had received coffee and the waiter still hadn't taken our offer.
At the 40 minute mark, we had to flag down the waiter and ask to take our order. He just nodded is head and walked away.
About 45 minutes in, the waiter came over to take our order. This is where it got worse. He wasn't even looking at us or listening to what we were saying. The table behind us was complaining about the horrible service. He was serving their table so he was more interested in what they were saying to another member of staff. He was literally standing in front of my table, pretending to write our orders down on his notepad, while watching the other table. It was so awkward, I thought it was a joke. My mom asked if she could get one of the ingredients listed in her meal "on the side," and the waiter's response was "you can have a juice or a cocktail." WTF???
Since we were blatantly ignored, we asked the waiter to repeat the order back to us. He forgot a whole meal. There were only 4 of us, so that's pretty hard to do. He also left several drink orders off the order.
The food was great.
BUT I will never go back to The Smith because they don't care about their customers. I was embarrassed for them. I'm not exaggerating when I say this was THE worst service I've ever had at a restaurant in my life. Anywhere.
