We dined here in May on a Sunday evening and had a great experience so were keen to revisit when we had family to stay. Only 430 or 5pm was available to book online and I wrongly assumed it was full at later times. Apparently it is now booked out for Weddings on Sunday evening but we weren't aware on booking.
Service was sporadic, eg ice and water ordered never arrived, we had to ask for the plates to be cleared and we were told at 530 that the kitchen was closed and it was unclear if we could order dessert. Bill was wrong when it arrived as it was for the table just leaving when we got there, plus another table had a complaint regarding allergies which was being dealt with. As we were by then the only table in the restaurant and there were 2 staff by the bar I'm really not sure why the service was so poor. 2 of the children's meals were lovely (fish goujons and burger) but the sausages came with the tiniest portion of mashed potato imaginable. They did provide more eventually when asked to be fair but we were first told the kitchen was closed and they couldn't do anything. After 10 mins they then came back to say they could help.
One of the staff said he'd only been there a week so perhaps some training would be helpful. It would also be better to be clear when the kitchen closes on a Sunday evening. The roasts are beautiful with amazing gravy so would suggest going for Sunday lunch earlier in the day. Unfortunately disappointing on this occassion.
Nice food but had to wait half an hour for our starter.
We had a very pleasant evening. The food was delicious and the waiter service attentive.
We will return
Service was very slow and staff were unapologetic. Roast beef was very rare and chewy.
Disappointing as we had visited earlier in the year when food and service were excellent.
Lovely service, great food. Wonderful environment. A few hiccups in service, but felt genuine and staff were wonderful.
Truly loved it. Will be back
We had a great evening with outdoor sitting and great weather.
Mm. Total twaddle. Waited an hour for starters, 30m for a drinks order. Service slow. Mgmt disinterested. Food avg. Decidedly avg. Best bits when a waiter asked me where my cutlery was (err, I hadn’t been given any) and him putting spoons down because we ‘were on desserts’. We’d ordered cheese. On the plus side, the metal barrier to the entrance meant we got a walk the long way round thru the Fawlty Towers hotel. Loads of potential this place. Zero chance of realising it.
Great food great staff ambiance special will go back
Travelled down from the North East to stay in the hotel and so got a table here quite late, just before the kitchen was due to close, but everyone was still more than happy to help, were friendly and the food was delicious.
Went for dinner with friends - and the service and ambience was excellent.
Food was lovely and tasty, but some of the portions were a little small. The burger was epic and truly gourmet but the lamb only
Came with a small piece of vegetable (might have been sweet potato). Sticky toffee pudding was also delicious but on the small side.
Good Food Great Service (once it get's going). Very nice place indeed. Would recommend.
A fantastic setting, beautiful restaurant. The food was amazing, really yummy and so well presented.
Could do with some more vegetarian options.
Over expensive. Low quality food. Terrible service
I am sorry to hear this. We are very surprised by this, too. All our food is made from fresh and we use very good quality providers. Our beef comes from The Rare Breed Company - therarebreedmeatcompany.co.uk Please contact me directly at email@example.com as I would like to know what has upset you so much regarding our food, service and prices. With kindest regards, Thomas
It was lovely and the staff who served us were excellent. Will definitely go back
Utterly incredible! Food, service, location - all amazing
Friendly, attentive service; lovely outdoor seating area with ample heaters delicious food & extensive drinks menu! Will definitely be returning soon.
We had a lovely birthday meal in the courtyard last weekend. It was sunny when we sat down at 5.30pm, but quite cool in the courtyard, staff were very quick to offer blankets to everyone, and there was no shortage. The heaters were switched on about 7.45, although there weren't quite enough to cover every table. So long as you went prepared for eating outside it was fine.
The staff were lovely, and we were not kept waiting for service at all.
The food was very good, piping hot even though we were outside, they obviously served it quickly once it was ready.
I did find the prices a little high, but the setting was lovely, staff were great, and the food delicious and slightly out of the ordinary. Cocktails were very good too!
I would definitely recommend The Stables, whilst we are restricted to outside eating, i suggest eating early to avoid getting too cold, and bring a good coat!
A great option for outdoor eating. The food was good and the service quiet and pleasant. We had a very enjoyable lunch here.
Lovely food, good service and very pleasant surroundings. The blankets were a thoughtful touch and very welcome as it was a very cold evening. That was the only drawback. We plan to visit again as soon as we are able to eat inside.
Service was a bit slow but be kind to them. They’re running on skeleton staff. Food very good.
Lovely cozy place, beautiful and romantic at night, with little lights. They have heaters and blankets too. The staff is really friendly. I'll definitely go back for dinner or afternoon teas!
Oh wow this was such an amazing way to get back into life after lockdown and before our baby is born. We took some time together and spent the afternoon there having discovered it the week before. Beautiful surroundings, great prompt, friendly service and the food was delicious. Husband is a good cook and and he was very impressed. Had lots of small dishes and dessert and honestly could not fault anything. My new fave place! Perfect afternoon
Beautiful place to go. Very Covid safe and the staff are so friendly and will go the extra mile.
A birthday lunch in the pleasant and safe outdoor eating area at Stables. Families enjoyed delicious meals served by the attentive, friendly staff.
My fish and chips was perfect whilst others in our group really enjoyed the roast beef and chicken dinners. The only slight negative was tasteless hard tomatoes in a salad - probably a seasonal issue.
Delicious deserts were followed by a surprise complimentary birthday treat of a plate of chocolates. A lovely touch.
Well worth another visit.
Excellent service and friendly staff. Lovely setting with good food, will most definitely be booking again soon.
Our trip to the stables was very pleasant . The food was absolutely amazing ,the drink was great too . We found the manager unhelpful , we asked him to remove the umbrella from the table as we were on a table of 6 and couldn't see each other and didn't want it up as it would block the sun but he refused, we also asked to move table but he said they were taken .. but there was at least 6 empty tables in the time we were there 6.5 hrs . Also at the end of the day we had cash and we understand the rules but he was so rude bearing in mind we spent more than £300 . I've now cancelled our trip to the stables on Saturday.
A really nice outside space, friendly staff. Food looked great, although we didn’t dine on this occasion- will be sure to book for food next time!
Nice open air environment, plenty of patio heaters even though it was a little windy when we visited.
The worst Customer service I ever experienced.
Only one person taking orders.
Took around 50 min to take ours, the manager started arguing with us, treated us as they don't need any clients.
Not sure if I am going to give a second chance to the Stables.
A really nice local venue for us. We had a lovely evening. All was excellent and I would have no hesitation based upon our experience in recommending. 😃
With the Covid-19 issues we were a little wary about a visit. However, we felt totally safe. We were well distanced from other diners and the staff were masked and kept their distance as much as possible. The food and wine were excellent with an acceptable gap between courses. It was also very nice to be presented with a carafe of tap water without having to ask. The kitchen was also very accommodating arranging a vegetable swap (essential as I hate sprouts!!). Perhaps the only negative (for me) was the lack of a fresh fruit or simple ice cream/sorbet option for dessert. Overall a very pleasant evening out.
Lovely new clean restaurant with friendly efficient service and excellent food. Clearly freshly prepared and served hot. Beautifully decorated. Lots of space.
Such a lovely, cozy, calm and welcoming atmosphere met us at The Stables. The food was faultless, as was the service. At a time where it is difficult to feel relaxed in a restaurant, the staff at the Stables made it feel like things were normal again.
A very disappointing visit.
The food was delicious however it was cold. It was served on a skillet plate which should have been warmed through or if not, the food served hot.
We did not mention this at the time, as we had complained of a draft from the staff side door which was constantly being used, despite sitting next to the fire! The waitress offered to put more logs on, but the heat was lost when the door was opened. So unfortunately not the cosy warm setting I had imagined.
Therefore, when the food came out cold, we didn't want to make a bigger fuss, but the whole experience was ruined. We did pass this feedback on at the end and sadly for the expense, it was a big let down.
Great food and service!
Overpriced food, the new layout has lost the ambiance it had before with the lower level now removed .
Had a lovely meal here with Family the evening before lockdown began. Food was incredible, the staff were lovely and the new restaurant looks amazing! Big thank you to Maria, Rashvan and Nadia for being so welcoming.
We-four of us- enjoyed our first visit to the newly opened Stables. Well laid out and decorated room. Nice touch with the layout in the form of stalls in a stable
Service fine as there were four of us. Not sure if reaction would be quite the same if as a single or a couple.
Food very good, it is a quality versus quantity decision, We appreciated the former, and our friends although initially a bit concerned at the quantity on the plate for the main course, were very satisfied on both counts at the end of the meal.
Food was presented nicely but wasnt prepared to a high enough standard for the price paid and was not warm enough. No weekly lunch menu also staff didnt seem very friendly.
