The Stag & Huntsman
Nestled into the Chiltern Hills, between Henley and Marlow and just up from the River Thames, Hambleden can only be described as quintessentially English.
Benefiting from the care of the Culden Faw Estate and the protection of The National Trust, the village is one that time forgot, with few changes over the last century.
The Stag and Huntsman, lovingly restored by The Estate under the auspices of heritage architecture, Ptolemy Dean, maintains the old world charm of a Country Inn. With a focus towards the local community - Hambleden and the local residents - myriad of small and cosy drinking and eating spaces within the Inn, the nine letting bedrooms and the pretty garden also provide a resting place and watering hole for those who travel further distances to the village.

nice place , good sized garden , interesting tasty food great !
A fab pub with rooms. The room and breakfast was exceptional value for money. Staff were all great - extremely polite, friendly and helpful. Good evening meal too. Would certainly recommend.
It was a quiet Monday evening, the staff were very attentive, the food was good, we have been before and we will go again.
A great choice of menu with some unusual 'mains' a touch of the Caribbean ....
Excellent flavours and and good service, lovely friendly and cheerful staff..
A lovely countryside pub in the heart of the Chilterns
Service was friendly but quite slow. My dish was not as good as hoped. Otherwise a good venue in an attractive village location
Very pleasant staff and surroundings. Food was fabulous. Two areas let the overall experience down. Firstly items left on shelves and tables from previous customers and secondly the wait for food and resupply of drinks was poor. Better attention to detail and improve customer service.
That said I would return as they were nice staff, good food in a great location.
Sent the meal back twice. The vegetables were not cooked properly.
Ordered the Buddha bowl. Disappointing. Half an avocado with green salad and a chunk of cold tofu. Flavourless. Topped off with uncooked cauliflower. Such a disappointment
Nothing on website to say that it’s a pay and display car park and that if you go inside pub put your reg in its FREE
Had booked but told to sit anywhere outside! Very busy!!
Gave up after the third asking for drinks as no one would take the order .
Only had a main course just to difficult to order anything else
The meal we did get was good with plenty of gravy.
Not sure if I’d go back, it was Bank holiday Sunday but just not enough waiting staff or bar staff
Sunday lunch, clearly not enough staff
A couple of the waiters/waitress’ were not totally up to date with the menu being offered.
Also, service charged being added to a drinks bill seems a bit extreme!
We had a lovely meal, beautifully presented and served in good time. The seating was comfortable, in the shade and suitably spaced out. Though we arrived early, this was no problem. The waiter and waitress were charming and nothing was too much trouble.
Superb lunch. Thanks so much for making it nice and relaxed. Would highly recommend. What a beautiful garden and ambience. Staff are superb and helpful. 5*
Brilliant all round hotel. Great service and food in the restaurant and very friendly and helpful staff. A beautiful location and a really pretty building. We will definitely start again if we are in the area
Great place, good and service brilliant.
The food was amazing, we both had the steak then the creme brûlée and amaretti affogato,. The steak was cooked exactly to order and perfect. The service was great and speedy and very attentive.Great atmosphere (we ate in the garden) great to see it is dog friendly with even a tap barrel station for dog water. Already recommended to someone else who has booked in for next week … well done all ,look forward to coming back 5*
Nice garden, appropriate volume and style of music, good South African bbq. Dog friendly. We will be back. Thanks.
Lovely Pub/ Restaurant in a fab setting, good food and friendly service.
Highly recommended, we will return 😊
Nice garden and layout. Covid safe but meal was an hour late and went cold. Staff were great and adjusted the bill without being asked
Id go back but nothing immediately
Very pleasant birthday lunch
Lovely birthday lunch - the mixed roast was a crowd pleaser
Food was not good at all, service was meh.... location is lovely and so is the dog!!!
Hi. Please could you contact me direct at the pub via email so i can further investigate this complaint. many thanks
Wonderful to be back here, in the garden. Great service and food.
A lovely pub garden with polite and helpful staff. Standard menu offering for a Sunday. Service was slow, 12:15 lunch booking we received our main course at 13:50. Food was OK, nothing amazing but nothing to grumble over other than The long wait.
Delicious food in the lovely garden, rather a long wait but we will be back
I think the food was ok, but being seated on rickety, old bar stools around a giant barrel isn’t conducive to a comfortable lunch.
Great meal relaxed atmosphere and helpful staff
Thanks for a great evening
Lovely country pub with nice garden and cosy atmosphere. Comfortable seating area and good distance between tables. Excellent service from friendly cheerful staff.
Varied menu and high quality dishes , fish and chips excellent as was the seafood tagliatelle. Well worth a return visit soon.
Great food, drink and lovely atmosphere, they also validate free parking
Fantastic Covid-safe setup.
Friendly, helpful staff.
Lovely, fresh food at good value
Myself and the kids ate here during the week the service was good however my burger was dry and not particularly flavoursome plus the bun was stale! We returned with my wife (who is a vegan) the following Sunday and the service was very slow and they had removed 3 out of 4 vegetarian/vegan options from the menu which only left a very poor quality Thai curry. We asked the waitress why they were removed she informed us it was to make room for the 2 Sunday meat roast options. We asked if there were any other options for a vegetarian and we were told no.
All in all were very disappointed with service and quality of the only vegetarian food option on a Sunday.
Really nice setting, good food but not many options for veggies
Perfect pub garden - great food and very attentive staff
V arrived there and they told us that open table had no right to make a reservation. Furthermore they said that open table made a mistake and could never give a reservation at 11 am as they open only at 12pm. V drove all the way from central London and the manner in which v were spoken to by the man at the restaurant was dismissive and rude. Either open table or the restaurant owe us an apology, if not both.
First meal post lockdown . The Stag has a lovely sheltered garden , perfect for chilly days . Lovely food , great staff . Excellent all round .
Had a really lovely lunch at The Stag & Huntsman and would definitely return and recommend it.
Lovely as ever. Very warm welcome back. We'll be there again soon!
Eating outside in the sun in the Stag and Huntsman garden was very pleasant. The menu was varied, the food and beer were excellent. Prices were reasonable but service was on the slow side. Covid measures were in place.
Lovely location, attractive garden with friendly and helpful service.
Good choice of Kid’s food and plenty of alternatives on main list.
All dishes well prepared and excellent standard.
We love The Stag and Huntsman, as ever the food was delicious, the staff friendly and attentive. And a bonus visit from Griffin delighted to my daughters. Can’t wait to go back.
