The Stag & Huntsman
Nestled into the Chiltern Hills, between Henley and Marlow and just up from the River Thames, Hambleden can only be described as quintessentially English.
Benefiting from the care of the Culden Faw Estate and the protection of The National Trust, the village is one that time forgot, with few changes over the last century.
The Stag and Huntsman, lovingly restored by The Estate under the auspices of heritage architecture, Ptolemy Dean, maintains the old world charm of a Country Inn. With a focus towards the local community - Hambleden and the local residents - myriad of small and cosy drinking and eating spaces within the Inn, the nine letting bedrooms and the pretty garden also provide a resting place and watering hole for those who travel further distances to the village.

Nice garden and layout. Covid safe but meal was an hour late and went cold. Staff were great and adjusted the bill without being asked
Id go back but nothing immediately
Lovely birthday lunch - the mixed roast was a crowd pleaser
Food was not good at all, service was meh.... location is lovely and so is the dog!!!
Hi. Please could you contact me direct at the pub via email so i can further investigate this complaint. many thanks
Wonderful to be back here, in the garden. Great service and food.
A lovely pub garden with polite and helpful staff. Standard menu offering for a Sunday. Service was slow, 12:15 lunch booking we received our main course at 13:50. Food was OK, nothing amazing but nothing to grumble over other than The long wait.
Delicious food in the lovely garden, rather a long wait but we will be back
I think the food was ok, but being seated on rickety, old bar stools around a giant barrel isn’t conducive to a comfortable lunch.
Great meal relaxed atmosphere and helpful staff
Thanks for a great evening
Lovely country pub with nice garden and cosy atmosphere. Comfortable seating area and good distance between tables. Excellent service from friendly cheerful staff.
Varied menu and high quality dishes , fish and chips excellent as was the seafood tagliatelle. Well worth a return visit soon.
Great food, drink and lovely atmosphere, they also validate free parking
Fantastic Covid-safe setup.
Friendly, helpful staff.
Lovely, fresh food at good value
Myself and the kids ate here during the week the service was good however my burger was dry and not particularly flavoursome plus the bun was stale! We returned with my wife (who is a vegan) the following Sunday and the service was very slow and they had removed 3 out of 4 vegetarian/vegan options from the menu which only left a very poor quality Thai curry. We asked the waitress why they were removed she informed us it was to make room for the 2 Sunday meat roast options. We asked if there were any other options for a vegetarian and we were told no.
All in all were very disappointed with service and quality of the only vegetarian food option on a Sunday.
Really nice setting, good food but not many options for veggies
Perfect pub garden - great food and very attentive staff
V arrived there and they told us that open table had no right to make a reservation. Furthermore they said that open table made a mistake and could never give a reservation at 11 am as they open only at 12pm. V drove all the way from central London and the manner in which v were spoken to by the man at the restaurant was dismissive and rude. Either open table or the restaurant owe us an apology, if not both.
First meal post lockdown . The Stag has a lovely sheltered garden , perfect for chilly days . Lovely food , great staff . Excellent all round .
Had a really lovely lunch at The Stag & Huntsman and would definitely return and recommend it.
Lovely as ever. Very warm welcome back. We'll be there again soon!
Eating outside in the sun in the Stag and Huntsman garden was very pleasant. The menu was varied, the food and beer were excellent. Prices were reasonable but service was on the slow side. Covid measures were in place.
Lovely location, attractive garden with friendly and helpful service.
Good choice of Kid’s food and plenty of alternatives on main list.
All dishes well prepared and excellent standard.
We love The Stag and Huntsman, as ever the food was delicious, the staff friendly and attentive. And a bonus visit from Griffin delighted to my daughters. Can’t wait to go back.
Charming South African staff who went the extra mile. I had a glass of mulled wine 🍷 which was delicious followed by loin of venison & my sister had a very large breast of duck. Both dishes were outstanding followed by mixed winter berry crumble. We were made to feel extremely welcome. A most enjoyable lunch. We shall be back. Dougie Simpson
Lovely food, nice atmosphere. Couldn't have asked for more.
Dog friendly and outstanding service!
Will definitely go back.
The food was delicious. The service was quick and really friendly.
I booked online which was exceedingly easy. We turned up on time for our reservation. Controlled access and very safe. As we visited on a Sunday roast beef was our choice.
Served promptly and very tasty. Compliments to the chef and staff. Great place to visit if in the area as lovely country walking in the area.
Lovely atmosphere conscious of Covid restrictions, delicious food, welcoming fire.
Our meal at the Stag and Huntsman was ( as usual) brilliant. Seamless service and superb ambience. See you soom.
Good food, ate outside. Good quality Guinness. Easy to book, catered for food allergies. Efficient service, safe environment
Charming old world pub, but as it was the first day after lockdown relaxation it was very quiet. Food excellent.
The food was lovely we both went for stake and it was lovely wood highly recommended this place for a lovely meal out
friendly and relaxed pub atmosphere, cheerful, friendly staff, good food, pretty village
Very well organised, we felt safe. Menu is interesting and food good quality.
We were very impressed with the food. The environment and ambience was lovely. We had been for an afternoon walk and planned at lunch at this venue. As a vegetarian, I had a lot of choice. This was a welcomed and warm surprise! Good food indeed. Thank you for having us.
This is a lovely village pub in a very beautiful village. There's plenty of parking space just outside, and it's a great base for a walk down the valley or up the hill into the golden woods. The staff are friendly, welcoming and they work very hard to keep everyone safe. There is a large marquee in the garden, so everyone can enjoy really good food and drink with excellent service at a reasonable price. Thank you Stag & Huntsman, we do hope that we can come back in a few weeks' time!
Good food, fantastic service and all our love to Gryffindor. We will be back when you open again! :)
Very cosy pub for Sunday lunch but the service was slow
They never fail to impress with the food @ the stag and huntsman - we had the mixed roast, top drawer.
Being together before another lockdown!
Such a great place as dogs welcome so a great destination to walk to.
Perfect Sunday country pub lunch with a wonderful menu and friendly staff, highly recommend!
