The Stag Maidstone
Sunday: 12:00 - 19:00
We decided to go to their vegan night after seeing it on Facebook. We ordered our starters and were told they would be 20 mins. We said that's fine and ordered some olives to keep us going. Olives never appeared so asked for them when our starters arrived. Food was ok but nothing special. Our main courses then arrived. Which consisted of a mushroom and leek Wellington with hardly any filling and lumpy mash potatoe!! Not just the odd lump but big chunks of potatoe! Our plates were cleared away and no one ever came to ask if we'd like dessert or if we'd like to pay. I eventually went to the bar to order where i was told out of the 4 options they had ran out of two. The only other people in the restaurant left half way through their mains due to cold food and poor service so who knows who they sold the desserts to!! It's a really nice pub and I think they should stick with that. The chef obviously doesn't care what they produce and the service is diabolical. If they put as much effort into their restaurant as they do on social media they may be on to a winner! Unfortunately your order is taken then your forgotten! Make the restaurant into a bar seating area and stick with what you know and do a half decent job at. Will never return for food.
Came to Maidstone and looked up places with a vegan option, very glad to find this place as the food was delicious and it was a great price too, will definitely be coming back soon.
Lovely food and I take my hat off to the only 2 members of staff that where working that day, they did exstemley well with just 2 of them in the baking heat, need more staff on the poor guys, would recommend to friends and family as we love the food and staff are always friendly
Me and my partner went along to sample the Vegan Menu. The dishes were hearty and in terms of quantity were certainly value for money.
If I am being honest it wasn’t the most flavourful food but for a hungry Vegan like me the portions and great tasting sides made up for that.
The pub itself was relaxed and quiet and the bartender/waiter made sure we felt comfortable throughout.
Brilliant what more can I say, waitress extremely helpful, all friendly
Superb Sunday roast with friendly and attentive staff.
the waiter who attended to us was really friendly and good but the food was poor quality. roast Beef was raw, veggies was dry. There’s nothing especially about it to be honest. I tried their steak as well couple of weeks ago and it gave me runs.
I loved this place! The atmosphere was perfect - chilled and cosy and the decor was a nice mix between contemporary and traditional.
The main reason we ate here was we had heard they offered a vegan menu which we were keen to try and we werent disappointed! There were lots of choices and the food was delicious! Its so nice to see more and more restaurants recognising the ever increasing popular choice to become vegan and eat with compassion and kindness. The fact there there is a whole vegan menu here rather than just one or two dishes is nothing short of FABULOUS! Really encouraging and inspiring. Thank you so much for this and we shall definitely be back as a result!
Great food and service always personable and not just a run of the mill place. Beer choice is varied and differs from the standard chain choices.
Lovely meal in a nice comfortable environment-
Staff all friendly and welcoming and with the group in excellent value for money
The stag, was a friendly place. Me and the Mr enjoyed our steak Meal. It was cooked to perfection. Staff were there when needed. Great place for date night. *
Food quality and the service was very good. Only thing is food could have been a little warmer.
Staff were very helpful and welcoming, food was lovely, would definitely eat there again.
Afternoon tea was nice for the nice. Disappointed that the presentation was not as noce as the stand was broken so we had it on plates.
No butter in the sandwiches... so very dry sandwiches that just fell apart :(
Second time to this pub / restaurant and was not quite as good. The service was quite slow - my
Food was lovely but my friend’s steak was not as extremely fatty. All in all though good value for money and we would go back again.
Waited an hour for our meal to arrived - we asked the staff twice where our meal was - place was pretty empty so really no excuse. Then the steak arrived first, chips followed 3-4 minutes later. Peppercorn sauce was milk with pepper added. Staff were pleasant but didnt explain what was happening other than 'our food is freshly cooked'. We had pre-paid with a Groupon voucher and expected good food with a nice atmosphere prior to our booked show however totally disappointed from start to finish. I would not recommend The Stag to anyone.
Sunday lunch for four, staff very friendly and attentive without being ott,two pork, one chicken and one beef Sunday roast, four clean plates, what else can I say.
A very nice and relaxed Sunday afternoon spent with my family.
Service was quick and friendly, great value with the Groupon voucher. Meal was ok for the money. Roast potatoes weren’t very nice, so I would recommend changing these. Other than that very nice.
Lovely steak lunch - staff were really friendly and we would defiantly return.
Table reserved and ready on arrival. Immediately served by very helpful staff and every need met. Not interfered with by staff until each course finished and nothing seemed too much when requested. One minor point, pepper added to meal which a bit strong for some diners. Pointed out and told it would be rectified. A thouroghly enjoyable meal, lovely atmosphere and very helpful staff. Would go back and dine again without hesitation.
Waited 45 mins for food and with 2 hungry children it was not nice
Tables was dirty and uneven but the staff came over to help, we waited a long time but that was due to good being cooked to order, vegetables was lovely however the beef was ridiculously tough when asked how things was by staff member he said he would speak to the butchers about their cuts of meat? I personally felt it was due to being overcooked.
We went for the groupon steak night and we had a brilliant meal great food, great staff great evening
Food looked better in the photos than the plate!
also cant to the table warm, not hot... clearly been sitting under the lamp for a while...
The waitress wasn't informed with necessities i.e. the soup of the day and asked about the camembert for starter (not included in the 2 course special) had to go away to find out if you could get it normally.
I'll go elsewhere next time.
We decided to go elsewhere for dessert.
Choice of Menu was not great but what we were served was fine. The vegan Wellington was very small. Decor and atmosphere were pleasant
We both enjoyed a really good well cooked steak. something that some establishments cannot cook. However it was lovely, the staff are friendly willing and pleasant. O
verall good value for money. The decor could be a little brighter and my chair wasn't very comfortable.
Great value steak and wine meal. Peppercorn sauce and huge chips were amazing, will definitely is it again.
Food was awful and very overpriced had to wait over half an hour even though we pre booked the table was told no beef on menu even though it wasn't busy so could not of sold out staff un attentive will not be visiting again
We went for their two steaks and a bottle of wine for £25 offer. Well worth it. Nice steaks well cooked, and they were out of house wine so we got the run of the menu which was a little bonus.
Seems they have a nice rotation of beers too and the interior is nice.
Attentive staff too.
We regularly use the Stag and have had some great meals...however had to wait over an hour for our food but the restaurant was over booked. Guests seated after us received their meal first...not impressed....we were forgotten as they were just too busy.
This pub has been turned around from the previous versions it has been over the years and is a great place to have a couple of drinks at any time of the day. Friendly staff, nice atmosphere, nice food.
Had a lovely meal at The Stag. The staff were attentive and food delicious. Great value for money too.
We visited for mothers day having been there before Christmas for the first time. On our last visit we were very happy with everything hence rebooking however following our visit last weekend we will categorically not be returning.
Initially our booking time was changed which was ok, we had to come earlier as the restaurant had overbooked but we accepted this.
The rest of the experience was awful, the food was tasteless, lacked any flavour, over cooked and unacceptable in my eyes. We were left waiting almost an hour for mains, which was unacceptable considering we had two young children who were starving and becoming increasingly impatient. When we questioned the staff as to what was happening they said they would enquire with the kitchen but no one came back to us until the food arrived about 15mins.
We noticed at this point we had seen no food come out of the kitchen in ages and the 6/7 tables in our viewpoint were all waiting for food.
I did not want to make a fuss as I didn't want to ruin the whole day for the family however when paying i mentioned this to the staff who didn't really care. I categorically told them how unhappy I was with the service, the food and everything else and only had a response of " I am sorry you feel this way madam" - this is not good enough, I will not be returning and will not recommend this to anyone. I understand mothers day is a busy day and the restaurant will be at capacity however whilst this may excuse the late food , it does not excuse that what we had was terrible quality nor does it excuse that we were not updated that they were running late or even offered an apology. Such a pity!!
