We were celebrating my mum’s birthday
Fabulous afternoon spent eating and drinking with great service and atmosphere. The staff and management excel at ensuring they keep people safe whilst providing excellent food. Love it - one of the best places around to spend time in. Will return again and again (as I have done already!). Thank you!!
Thought I would have a nice drink with a couple friends on the Standard’s outside terrace. But soon we were swarmed by a group several dozen young adults who had clearly booked separate tables and then just clumped up after they were seated, despite the new government regulations. There was nothing down by the servers to separate them. And they kept clumping by the table where my 3 friends and I (well in our less than 6 bubble) were sat. Also our servers were clearly not interested in us and kept on trying to get us to pay our bills right away, but were more than happy to focus on the large group of un distanced adults. DO BETTER. The number of cases in the UK are doubling each day and if you can’t enforce distancing in your restaurant, then you shouldn’t be open. My friends I left pretty quickly after we got our food, because we did not feel safe. I will not be returning to this establishment any time soon.
Great food and excellent friendly service in a lovely atmosphere
Great location and lovely decor, lovely ambiance when we walked in and really disappointed that the food didn’t deliver. We went on a Sunday so the general consensus was the Sunday Roast, we ordered the lobster rolls - pretty tasteless and watery. The slider burgers which were okay. The calamari which we had to send back as it the batter wasn’t near enough cooked and tasted very under done. The best part was the chorizo croquettes which were delightful and by far the best part of the meal. (Best of a bad bunch) The Strawberry daiquiri was very nice and Moretta on tap is always a winner. Would definitely go back but drinks only and not for dinner or food. Service was generally good.
Good service but the food wasn’t great
Had such a lovely time lovely place lovely staff yummy cocktails 🍸 Amber was lovely highly recommend ✨💫🤩
Great food, great ambiance and really nice location.
Gorgeous food at a reasonable price and lovely staff. Will definitely be going back!
Our server was lovely! We dined on the roof terrace which we didn’t know had existed - it was also great but needed a bit more shade as everybody there was struggling with the sun.
Food was great value as it normally is and huge portions! Overall still our go-to place for a quick and easy lunch or Sunday Roast!
Very welcoming and comfortable, the first place we had eaten out after the lockdown lifted and it was a really good experience. Staff so helpful and friendly and the food was brilliant.
Don’t be fooled by the pictures, can’t fault the staff but the food was well below average, very disappointed.
Couldn't fault it! Happy with everything and will return.
Good food, lots of it and reasonably priced. First Sunday lunch here, we'll be back again
Had a lovely meal with my friend but at one point the music wss then turned right up and we couldn't hear each other and ended up shouting ...which spoilt it.
My food was remade as an error occured but was nice and fresh
Would return
Service was great, food was good. Steak was warm but they rapidly fixed that issue.
Nonetheless we enjoy our food.
Cocktail was weak though.
lovely roast dinner and normal menu good too ,fussy with my roast dinners ,this is very nice
My reservation was for a Tuesday night so I expected the restaurant to be quiet, but they had run out of 2 beer choices. Dessert menu was slightly disappointing more choices of ice creams and sorbets than pudding selection, but the main menu had a good variety of dishes.
I'd seen the restaurant featured on TOWIE and it looked like a nice place to eat! We had our anniversary lunch there on 4th November and it was lovely. I'd mentioned we had a booked when we arrived but the restaurant was fairly empty so (unsure whether the waitress heard that I'd make a booking) said we could sit where we would like. I was disappointed there wasn't more of the building accessible and just the front was open, it appeared like a larger more atmospheric on TV ! Anyway the food was really tasty, we both had roasts, a couple of unusual twists on the traditional meal, half way through the Manager came over and double checked it was us that were there for our anniversary (I'd noted this on the booking online so we could get a nice table) and we were both offered a complimentary glass of bubbly which was a really sweet, lovely touch, complete with a pretty purple flower! Thanks for making our anniversary meal that little more special, the waitress and customer service in general was great.
Nice quiet local highstreet restaurant and quiet bar however I wasn't impressed with the truffle and mushroom mac and cheese, it wasn't cheesy, almost watery like a microwave dinner. However when I had gone another time the pork with crackling was fantastic. Apart from the mac and cheese experience the service was actually lovely, the drinks were great too and the ambience was really nice. I'll still come back here but really hoping the mac and cheese will improve!
It was closed has been for 10 daysxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx
We have been to The Standard in Loughton half a dozen times recently and on each occasion we have had an excellent meal with truly excellent service. We have been as a couple, a family and in a large group and each time we were treated to fabulous food served by friendly, attentive staff. Curiously this restaurant isn't over-busy despite being (easily) one of the nicest places to eat out in the area. The Sunday roast is spectacular with plenty of meat and enormous Yorkshire puddings.
Food took a long time to come. Wasn't very impressed with the starters and value for money wasn't quite there considering what we were served. There were so many flies in the bathroom and tiny insects flying around our table.
The staff were lovely and service good.
I took elderly parents on a night with a party going on, music was loud making it difficult to hear each other.
Food was variable - Salad and chicken kiev were nice, mac n cheese was not, choc mousse was awful.
I would like to go again incase this was a blip.
Nice place, attentive staff but couple of small issues.
1) Moscow mule should have some ginger beer in it, what we were given was essentially vodka and lime juice, ok if that's what your ordered, but we didn't. It WAS changed at no cost though.
2) Clam linguine was flavourless yet spicy.
3) With the cod cheeks, the cheeks and pea puree were excellent but the capers and sapphire delivered WAY too much salt, to the point they were almost inedible
On the plus side, Mussels were great, Trifle was excellent, the Pinot Grigio was delicious.
so in short, the Starter, desert and wine were great, the main course and the cocktails let the place down.
Friends recommended the Sunday roast to us. My husband and I both ordered roast beef. It was the worst roast beef I ever had and the veg was over cooked, very soggy.
The music was so loud. We went there for early dinner at 5:30pm with our 16 months old. It was so loud that it felt like a nice club. However the staffs were very friendly and helpful. I don’t want to write them off yet due to their lovely staffs.
Lovely food, lovely atmosphere. Thank you xxx
Stopped here for Saturday lunch. Parking difficult, menu very limited, service very slow, food mediocre. Evening menu looks much better. Would not return or recommend.
The Standard is well worth a visit. The bi- weekly Jazz evenings on Sundays are great. The band is really good, the Standard always has a nice atmosphere and a nice crowd. Food is good, and the cocktails are lovely
Lovely food, lovely atmosphere. Thank you xxx
We enjoyed a lovely family Sunday Lunch here. The food was excellent and the service friendly and helpful. This is a gem. Will be returning as often as possible.
Lovely food, lovely atmosphere. Thank you xxx
Booked a table and had to wait 45 minutes for the table as they over booked. Half full drink taken away. Food very average. Will not be going back in a rush
Oliver, Jacob and Kieron was amazing! The service was fantastic and we was seated and seen too straight away. While looking at the menu there was a great range of food which we really enjoyed once ordered. Cocktails was amazing!
Would definitely recommend.
Lovely attentive staff, delicious food
Was not impressed having to wait for an hour with two hungry children for a Sunday roast.
My son and I opted for the beef which looked nice (when it eventually turned up).
We would have had better luck using plastic knives and forks as the knives on the table would not cut through the beef.
The rest of the meal was pretty bland too if I’m honest. Will not be returning in any hurry. On the plus side my wife enjoyed her dinner.
Waited 45 minutes for our starters, when they arrived there was one missing. The food quality was not great. We saw our mains sitting on the pass for about 1/2 hour including at one point the Waiter touching the food with his hands. When we complained the waiter said that this food was not ours and surprise surprise it left the pass. We then waited for another starter and then a long wait for the mains. When it arrived my pasta was cold in places, and hard in other- perhaps it was microwaved? It was supposed to be seafood which meant it had two mussels. Suffice to say we again complained to a very arrogant owner, we paid for our drinks and the food we ate and then left. WE WILL NOT BE GOING AGAIN!
Next place for a girls catch up. The food was good but the service was a bit slow and the place wasn’t even full.
