Found menu bit confusing - tapas style but didn’t feel plates complimented each other very well. Food I had was tasty but I would say it was over priced. Service was good and pleasant staff but not sure would return.

Just not up to par. An expensive but unremarkable meal. Service was warm and friendly until, as the evening dragged on and on, the server just disappeared (at least twice) for about 20 mins. As for the food, it was okay. The olives - okay. The bread and butter, for 5 quid, was delicious. We had to order two because the burrata starter was like a bizarre soup and was served without anything to eat it with. Whatever it was (or was supposed to be) it just was not tasty and certainly not what was expected. The trout and partridge were good but certainly not inspired. The pumpkin tart was excellent (best part of the meal). But the Salmon Wellington was a disaster- over cooked and triply oversalted (both the pastry and the fish). It was basically inedible. The kitchen graciously split it three ways (instead of two) and all three of us were in a state of shock. We did the best we could - all the while shaking our heads. When our plates were cleared, as kindly but as seriously as I could, I told the server how tremendously over salted the main was. My comments were barely recognized. And that is why I am sharing our less than stellar dining experience. Had my comment been even recognized, I would not have taken the time to write or post a review. But to be charged the equiv of $55 for a terribly oversalted main that was barely edible and to then have my feedbak ignored, just hasn't sat well with me. We would have sent it back but this was one of the two times the server (and entire staff) disappeared for 20 mins. My three star review is generous. For the price we paid one can easily find better food elsewhere. Disappointed.

I dined here on my own for the first time in advance of a Christmas get together with friends. I’d originally intended to have a quick bowl of soup, but ended up having a 3 course lunch with wine and coffee such was the enticing menu, warm welcome and ambience. Each delicious course was presented beautifully and with care. Caitlyn, as front of house and my server, was superb: informative, friendly, discreet yet attentive. I can’t wait to return with my friends.

The food was delicious, the service was good, but the price was just too expensive for what was presented to us. I appreciate it's locally sourced which is incredible, but for example, to be given a huge plate with a small slice of cheese and a teaspoon of jam, a few crackers on the side, for £8, we were a little shocked! Similarly with the pickled sardines, 4 fillets for such a high price. We would have ordered more if it was slightly cheaper. It seems too expensive for the ambiance of the venue, we were a bit surprised to be "fine dining" and expected more choice of well prepared "pub grub", which we may have enjoyed more, this is what I was expecting from your menu on the website, which is why we chose to dine with you.

Some elements of the food were excellent (bread, beef), others were a little bit trying too hard (starts, triple cooked chips, desert). Waitress lovely, probably £20-30 too expense - wrong type of food for the location??

Really enjoyed our time at the Star and Dove, the food was excellent as was the service. The food options were varied, innovative and delicious. A young couple that have learned their craft touring around Europe and from there developed a menu that excites. We went on a Thursday lunchtime so it was relatively quiet and therefore lacking that special ambiance, nevertheless we will return and are happy to recommend this establishment and the special people who run it.

Haven’t visited this restaurant for around 10 years but so impressed. A real gastro pub at very reasonable prices. Fantastic service and absolutely amazing food accompanied by gorgeous cocktails. We will definitely be back.

We were very happy with our meal at The Star and Dove this Thursday. The staff were extremely accommodating and helpful towards us as we had our 5 month old daughter with us. They made sure we had a table with ample space around us for us to park our pram and an additional chair for us to put our daughters highchair onto. The food was amazing and the calm ambience helped us to have an enjoyable evening to celebrate our wedding anniversary.

Another great night at Star & Dove. The food is consistently excellent and didn’t let us down again. We had duck liver pate and Devon crab to start followed by perfect lamb. The wine was also delightful and good value. All wrapped up in a convivial atmosphere and attentive service. Can’t go wrong

The food was excellent with all three diners thoroughly enjoying their meal. The wine was good and a fair price. The establishment is not is a pleasant area of Bristol although the interior has been nicely done. The food is overpriced for the location by about 15%.

The staff were really friendly. The roast was tasty and of a nice size. A lot of roasts can be too big and it can be an endurance test to finish but, for me, this roast was perfectly sized. We knew the Star and Dove had a good reputation before our arrival and we weren't disappointed. Would fully recommend to anyone wanting to book a meal with a peaceful, classy atmosphere.

The food, and the atmosphere, and the service at the star and dove are all very good. The reason I’m giving the food three stars is not because of the flavour or attention to detail of the cooking. The resident chef definitely has skill and food demonstrates his awareness and attention to detail and understanding of how the food should be prepared, cooked and presented. The reason I’m giving it three stars is that the price point is at least a third higher than it should be given its location, as well as the amount of food provided. We ordered a number of small plates which were all excellent, however £15 for one small tentacle of octopus no matter how well prepared is arrogant if not somewhat pretentious. Almost all of the small plates were undersized and overpriced, which is a genuine shame as it left and unnecessarily bitter taste. London prices being charged in Totterdown.

Went for lunch l, knowing it would be quiet so perfect for us, few tables in and people in for just drinks. We had the octopus and mushroom to start, the octopus was amazing, very flavoursome & probably my favourite dish. For main we had the lamb and turbot, with a couple of sides of chips, both delicious. For pudding we had the chocolate, very rich. Drinks were replenished plenty of times Could not recommend this enough. Thank you, we’ll be back soon

Extremely disappointed, came from Ireland on a weekend break. We knew it was a bit pricey but didn’t mind as it was a special occasion but the size and taste of the food really wasn’t worth the money at all, the food took over an hour to come for just two people when the restaurant only had one other table there, definitely not worth the money, the first bar woman we came across seemed very stoned and unprofessional so we definitely won’t be back.

The food was honestly immaculately presented and tasted amazing. When it comes to seafood/fish in general, Bristol is light on great spots - but this is one of the hidden gems of the city. The sourdough and butter are to die for - I even purchased the butter from the chef! The drinks are brilliantly prepared - the cocktails & the pints - a perfect Guinness. When it came to our mains, the presentation of the fish was beautiful & the cooking of said fish, was there to match. We had the cod & the monkfish and have already decided we’ll be booking up regularly for dinner in the months to come. My favourite pub in Bristol bar none.
