Had a booking for 4:30, finally got let into the building af 5 after waiting for two tables to be seated (booking only restaurant so not sure why it was so poorly organised) Met by a woman on the till who completely ignored us for a full few minutes and then said she’d be back in a second, she returned and asked for the name and we were told to wait in a small seating room on the right - again at this point we were 30 mins after our booking time so not sure why we still had to wait? We then waited for around 10 minutes before asking a waitress about our table, she asked what seemed to be management and we were told it would be another few minutes. We were finally sat and told it was because the table we were meant to be on had ran over and only just left - while we queued outside we could see this table, with no one on and empty cups and plates. We were sat and ordered drinks fairly easily, and then ordered our food, the beef arrived and was literally grey, not pink or brown - grey. We asked to have it swapped for chicken and were told there ‘was nothing wrong with the beef’ we were both absolutely certain there was. Food arrived and the vegetables were stone cold and as was the rest of the plate, apart from the Yorkshire pudding that was absolutely cremated. We were asked if we wanted more drinks and unfortunately- and maybe slightly childishly, we replied with ‘we’ll need more to enjoy this food’ this was met with an ‘ok’ and a 10 minute wait for a glass of wine. As we were eating all of the tables around us cleared and then a decent 20 mins after we were done the tables were still filthy, including the one we sat next to when we first came in that was full of plates and cups. Generally bad service with terrible food to aid it.

Thank you for taking the time to share your feedback, and please accept our sincerest apologies for the experience you had during your recent visit. We are genuinely sorry that from the moment you arrived, things did not go as they should have. Being kept waiting well beyond your booking time, and without clear communication, is unacceptable—and we understand how frustrating that must have been, especially when expectations are high for a booking-only service. . This is not the welcome we aim to offer any of our guests. As a gesture of goodwill, we would love the chance to make this right and invite you back for a much-improved experience, should you be open to it. If you’re willing, please reach out to us directly at [contact details], and we’ll personally look after your booking.

Beautiful Sunday sharing platter. Lovely little place. Not the cheapest Sunday lunch around but would much rather pay for quality. Plentiful too. Would highly recommend the star at cotton.

We visited on Mother’s Day as a party of 3 adults and 1 child so expected it to be busy. We sat at 12pm, got drinks by 12.15pm, ordered food and an adult ordered a starter so that came out around 12.30ish but what baffled us is that they brought my sons main meal out at the same time meaning when we eventually got the main by 1.15pm he had eaten and was getting bored!! So after waiting over an hour for our main we had a sharer which was apparently made for 3 and after looking at others for 2 it was apparent we had exactly the same size portions apart from an extra Yorkshire and sausage! After dessert was done with and our meal finished we had been there roughly 2 and a half hours, got the bill to be greeted with a £9 charge for GRAVY!! How you charge for that is beyond me and after checking the menu it became apparent that you charge £3 pp for GRAVY on a sharer but if we had a normal meal you don’t!! After our experience, charge for gravy and the quality of food wasn’t great that shall be our one and only time visiting!

Hi Chirs, Thanks for the feedback, We don't charge for gravy, We never have and never will, The £3pp on your bill is for the sharing board supplement in our fixed menu prices, so mothers day it was 2 courses for £29 and 3 courses £35 then next to the sharing board it showed a supplement on menu. We would of happily of explained this if you had questioned the bill. We usually send children's meals with starters so they aren't wait for a long period of time, we do usually ask. As your child may of been waiting for the main meals after the starter. Thanks Emma

To start with the waitresses and bar staff were great ,working incredibly hard and were clearly up against it. The food was average for the price. The pie starter had a sense of microwave about it (soggy) The GF flat bread dish was just, bread laid flat on the plate😂 The steak was ok as were the chops. Sold out of many of the mains and in fact sold out of rice😳 The meals had an overall rushed look. 10 minutes passed from the first to the last main, which was awkward when your trying to dine together. A shame as we were really looking forward to the visit and had heard great things. Maybe on that particular night the management chose quantity over quality.

Highly recommend, we booked via the open table app whilst leaving the local theme park and we are grateful that we did because it was delicious! We received a very warm welcome, food was fantastic all home cooked, service was great, lovely decor very cosy, the bill was what we would expect for the quality of food. We were shocked to see how busy the restaurant was when we were leaving, especially as service was good, it is obviously a local gem!

Exquisite. Fantastic atmosphere, the staff are very polite and welcoming. The food is exceptional, with a great varied menu. Not the cheapest of places but this is reflected in the quality of the service and food, as they say, you get what you pay for. Would definitely eat here again. Very very impressive!

We were seated in the restaurant but the atmosphere is still casual and relaxed. The service was excellent and the food good quality and beautifully presented. Portions are generous, we'll definitely be returning.

Service was good, Beef a bit thin and tasteless and I was not able to swap cabbage for cauliflower cheese even tho this was on the menu? Some veggies were almost raw.
