The food was delicious and beautifully presented. Wine list was good. The service was understated and exemplary. Charming basement space, quiet but lovely atmosphere. Highly recommend this excellent restaurant.
This was my second visit to the restaurant and it was just as good as I remembered! I went with a friend from Italy and we enjoyed everything.....scallops, steak and venison! The tastes were wonderful!
We were only sorry we had no room for dessert...
I've dined here on numerous occasions with no issues. However on this occasion I felt the service was very poor.
No one asked us if everything was OK after our courses had been served. We had to ask for our water to be topped up. We had to pour our own wine which meant getting up out of our seat as the wine cooler wasn't easily reached.
Small things yes, but having just returned from Turkey where the service was exemplary, there was just no comparison. It was my partners birthday and this was highlighted at time of the booking in other restaurants this has been recognised.
However I cannot fault the food.
Excellent food. Good range of wine fairly priced. Charming staff
Enjoyed the food, service wasn’t great, would consider going back again
Very cosy, inviting atmosphere. Service was very good, staff were very pleasant and attentive. Food was excellent, both myself and husband had three courses each, every one of them was just perfect. If in the area it's definitely worth a visit, but best to book in advance just to be sure if getting a table.
Not as good as I remembered. Had been there a number of times back in 2013. Lighting was way too bright. I remember the flavours being incredible but this time I honestly felt they were a bit flat. We could only secure a late (9.30pm) booking & it all felt a bit rushed - I was still chewing when my main course plate was whipped away. The waiter apologised as I think she realised they were rushing us. They shouldn’t take later bookings if they want to finish up early!
The whole experience was lovely. Food was delicious and fresh, good wine list and excellent staff
We had a lovely meal. Good choice os items on the menu. I had goats cheese soufflé and sea bass and I thought they were delicious with just the right amount of food on the plate. 2 of our party had the lamb and it was rated just right. Can I also mention the bread it was to die for. The only little negative was that we felt that the table could have been slightly bigger.
Really enjoyed our dinner here. Food was really good, service really good and nice ambiance.
Excellent service was great we shall return next time we are in Stockbridge
Lovely room, below the street. Very quiet. Service was excellent. Some nice touches, including an amuse bouche. I think the food was very good (my only comment is that the portions of fish could have been larger), creative and well-presented. We dined on a Sunday night so we could bring our own wine (small corkage fee was worth it). In short, we would return.
The menu did not suit all our party which was disappointing
This was a super night out with friends, we went on the Sunday for the bring your own deal and the food was outstanding, the service without fault and we will look forward to visiting again
Not sure what to expect as we booked prior to leaving London. Exceeded our expectations as this restaurant was exactly what we wanted for a special occasion. The menu whlist limited was adequate. Service exceptional without being too intrusive and the food was delicious. We will visit again when in Edinburgh.
Food and staff were excellent will certainly go again
Really lovely small restaurant for fine dining and romantic experience. Food exceptional quality and lovely amuse bouche. very good staff and wonderful proprietor. Will definitely revisit next time we.re in Edinburgh.
Had a lovely time, great food and great service. However, slightly disappointed with our desserts as they weren’t as good as the starter and main meal.
excellent food, good wine list, great service and atmosphere.
Excellent food with friendly and attentive service in comfortable and cosy surroundings. Even the toilets were worthy of praise.
Very rude to tourists visiting from another area. Lady inside yelling versus talking and saying cuss words in the small space. Was disappointed
Really great ambiance ,quaint ,cosy.
Flawless food and service. Great value and a relaxed atmosphere making for a memorable evening.
Another lovely evening in this lovely, intimate restaurant. The food, service and ambience are just wonderful. We keep returning and are never disappointed.
Lovely restaurant with lovely food. Food nicely presented. Staff really nice and friendly . Would definitely recommend and would love to go back some time in the future
lovely setting for an intimate meal, good friendly service but not intrusive. food was excellent, will visit again.
Great meal. Service was fantastic and a lovely romantic atmosphere. Stayed 3 hrs but never felt unwelcome.
What a great way to end our visit to Edinburgh! Great food, lovely space and super friendly service! If you’re ever in Edinburgh you should definitely visit. We’ll definitely be back next time.
Amazing food and service!
Outstanding as ever. Food never ever disappoints. Service was very friendly as well as being efficient and professional.
Just love this restaurant. Only wish we didn't stay so far away.
When my 18 year old daughter and I showed up for our reservation, the server asked if she was 18. My daughter had to produce her ID before being seated. This is not a bar or pub, but a lovely little restaurant with about ten tables. It’s described as romantic and intimate. The server explained that they have a very specific license. It was weird in a town that has not blinked and eye at her being in pubs or bars or having a glass of wine with dinner. I did not ask what would have happened if she did not have her ID or had not been 18. However the next day, we walked by one of Stockbridge other venues and there was a sign stating no one under 18 allowed- not even infants. So check with the restaurant before bringing your under 18 year old.
Best restaurant in the UK!
The food was pretty good although the main courses were only warm. My friend's steak was cold but she didn't want to make a fuss. Provision for coeliacs wasn't great very few dishes were gluten free and the preferred option for making dishes gluten free was to remove an item from the dish. Staff were very nice though.
Excellent restaurant providing a comfortable atmosphere, superb food and friendly, helpful service. It provided the best meal I have had this year and I will certainly return.
As always the Stockbridge Restaurant was wonderful - it always feels special!
This was my second visit to The Stockbridge Restaurant having been there in January of this year. This time I was with family and had already recommended it highly so was pleased that nothing had changed since my previous visit. Staff are welcoming and knowledgeable, the host Jane always makes you feel very special and that nothing is too much trouble. We had the sea bass and the steak and both were excellent. I would highly recommend this little jewel in Stockbridge.
We had our son's 21st birthday here recently and it was great. The menu was excellent as was the wine list. The staff were attentive and informative and went as far as to put a candle on the cheese board as a birthday surprise for him. We didn't order pudding otherwise I'm sure that the candle would have been on that!
Booking was made due to there being a vegetarian menu this was however fairly one dimensional. Had 3 courses off the a la carte menu . We both had the duck which was well prepared but there wasn't much else on the plate to compliment the flavour and the vegetables were overcooked for our liking.
Dessert was underwhelming ...had better at a pub the next day.
For the price not value for money
This is a low key restaurant with excellent food. We both chose seafood entrees which were excellent
It was good, but the service it was not too good we were waiting to much for the food and drinks.
