Lovely food , lovely atmosphere, lovely welcome. A very enjoyable evening
Fantastic Sunday roast. Very good beer selection and excellent wine. Ambience harder to judge given Covid restrictions but a lovely welcome bar area and sunny outside table. Service was efficient and very friendly. Will certainly visit again.
Great food, really tasty and better than anticipated. Would recommend for a weekend evening meal, staff were polite and attentive.
Got a last minute booking and graciously welcomed. Great Covid compliance. Food was very good and fresh and well flavoured. All 4 of us really enjoyed our meal. Service from the lovely all female front of house crew, was welcoming, professional and really friendly without swamping us. Well done all.
Ate Sunday lunch and enjoyed a very pleasant meal.
Good quality food served by friendly, helpful staff and all at a reasonable price.
Food excellent and the right size portions - not overwhelmed. Very enjoyable
My friend and I enjoyed every mouthful, though there were not that many. I wouldn't go back without the "Rishi" discount as I was still hungry after the meal
Boring! As usual the Stockton Cross has superb staff, great food, easy parking, nothing that could even complained about. Fantastic as ever, especially all of the staff (including kitchen staff). Can't wait to go back next week.
The food at the Stockton Cross exceeded our expectations.
The menu was concise but nevertheless still offered variety.
The standard of food was superb, definately not your usual pub grub. This fell into the category of gastro pub food and was delicious.
The adjusted menu gave limited choice in comparison to previous experiences but more importantly the quality of food did not live up to the price of the menu. Disappointed in this as it used to be one of our favourite places to eat.
Lovely country pub with great service. The food was cooked really well but portions were small and it was quite expensive.
Wonderful meal (as usual) especially with such a restricted menu really enjoyed it all and our waitress was A1 happy considerate and catered for our every need veg happily
Disappointed that the ‘Eat out to help out’ menu offered rather limited choice - website didn’t make clear the full a la carte menu would not be available. Didn’t rate the background music. A pleasant and convivial place to eat out, but on this occasion not up to the high standards of previous visits.
As part of the Eat Out campaign we chose the Stockton Cross for our second visit to the Groups 3 pubs. We were early and no problems at all. The staff and service were exemplary and the food didn't disappoint. All in all a great evening. Admiral Rodney next week!!
Reduced menu due to covid £10 eat out scheme. Poor vegetarian selection as everything contained Parmesan which the cook should know is NOT vegetarian. I was offered a Thai flavoured risotto as an alternative instead of a risotto verde for example. I like Thai food but not as an Italian dish. The alternative vegetarian burger was not much like a burger and not to my taste so ended up with chips and a small salad for main. The cherry sorbet was very good. As with many venues the music was intrusive. I like to go out for a meal not to experience other peoples musical taste and I wonder how they would like it if they were subjected to an hour of German opera for example!
We arrived and was seated quickly, the menu was very limited but I can understand why.
The starter arrived, but pate never comes with enough bread, so I asked for more, much to the annoyance to the chef, who we heard say, “More”, the main was delicious and the pudding of Eton Mess somewhat different.
We sat in the garden afterwards.
Service excellent. staff really lovely and helpful. Starter was a little on the small size for the cost and the curry sauce on the chicken was a little too sweet. Other than that it was a super couple of hours in the garden on a hot day.
I would definitely recommend the food here, we had an excellent meal with great service considering all the Covid restrictions at present.
Great service and fantastic food. Would highly recommend.
Very high quality food which was presented well & delicious to eat.
There was a good choice, all at a very reasonable price.
Helpful staff who attended to our every need.
The service was great and the food was exceptional.
We will be making a visit from South Wales again.
Thank you very much Stockton Cross
Really lovely food and brilliant service. It’s clear they are really trying to give everyone a welcome back to the place since reopening after lockdown. The food was lovely and the price matched the quality of the food. Would definitely go back when we are next in the area.
We all had burgers. All perfectly ok. Could have benefited from a small side salad as looked a bit lost on the plate.
Food & service excellent, unfortunately COVID restrictions meant very little ambience. Shame really, but guess this is the new world for a bit!
Dined here on the last of our holidays. Meal was excellant.
Excellent food..... a class above the rest of the competition around .... very friendly staff.... will be back !!!
Bearing in my mind this pub had only been open a week since the relaxation of restrictions, we had a very enjoyable experience here. We were the only people in the pub but the waitresses and the chef were charming. A very limited menu, which is understandable, but we were offered a filet steak as a special and, as it was our anniversary, that is what we had and it was an inspired choice as it was one of the best cooked steaks I have ever had accompanied by perfect chips and a delicious side salad. Dessert didn’t disappoint either - Pimms jelly with lavender meringue - delicious!
Don’t overlook this little gem. It deserves to be very busy.
My main course....pork belly was outstanding and my wife's risotto was lovely ....my mothers cod and chips tasted lovely .....but ....a big but......the batter was like concrete and too salty.......Should not come out of a quality kitchen like that.......Chocolate brownie pudding was lovely as well.......atmosphere strange.......but in these uncertain times it's to be expected.......The girls serving were lovely ........Overall experience great......but please sort your batter out......Good on you for being open ......We will be back !!!
Lovely lunch, vegetables beautifully cooked- not crunchy- hooray!
Pud disappointing, frangipan squidgy and rhubarb ice cream needed some rhubarb in it.
Always a pleasure to eat here. Wonderful food and staff
The food was tremendous, however the menu was limited. I felt the cost of the meal was high(£10 for cheese and biscuits).
Whilst food excellent, downsides were as follows :
Portion sizes on the small size.
Service a little iffy.
Somewhat expensive bearing in mind the above.
This was our third visit for the Stockton Cross' Sunday Roast which is the best for miles around. Lol and her staff gave us their usual warm welcome in this characterful country pub.
Selection of a starter was difficult but we both settled for enormous, tasty, Tiger Prawns which we followed by beautifully cooked pink roast beef mains. Beer and wines were, as usual, good quality.
Ambience, welcome, service, food & drinks and good value. What else do you need?
This was our first visit and we were absolutely bowled over by the quality of both the food and the service. We will be back!
Lovely meal last Saturday. Very friendly staff, lovely atmosphere and the food was fantastic. Cannot fault anything.
As always delicious food and a very enjoyable experience , great half way place to meet old friends. Not rushed, service excellent.
Very welcoming and friendly atmosphere, staff know their products and food never disappoints. Have visited on several occasions and am going back again to see the new menu.
We use the Stockton Cross regularly and the quality never fails
Excellent food, service slightly slow, as waiting for a while for food order to be taken, even though two girls stood behind the bar talking to each other. But service good between courses. Overall excellent place so will be back.
First visit to the Stockton Cross last Saturday with friends, the ambience was warm and welcoming and each member of staff who served us were attentive and polite. There were about 5 starters, 5 mains and 4 or 5 desserts to choose from - sufficient choice not for it to be overwhelming. Our friends ordered a side dish of extra vegetables which was a wise move as the main meal doesn’t come with a lot of vegetables- two of us had the sea bass and the other two had the venison- delicious 😋 we shared desserts and again faultless.
There are other places to eat which may be cheaper but you get what you pay for - in all we all had a drink before our meals and shared a bottle of merlot with 3 starters, 4 mains, 2 desserts and 2 coffees- the total bill was £163 and we rounded it up to £170 thanks to the attentive service- so £85 per couple. We don’t tend to go out for dinner on a regular basis and when we do - we tend to spend on average between £65 to £80 per couple.
So because of the quality of the food the cost reflected that - if you are looking for good food and an ambience to go with it - give this place a try we will certainly be returning.
