The Student Prince Cafe
Our waitress has worked there 28 years, so she filled us in on the restaurant's history - which was good to hear. The spaetzle and geschnetzeltes are cream-intensive, and the geschnetzeltes could have used more seasoning, but overall everyone in our party enjoyed their food. We all ordered from "German specialties" section of menu. The sampler could be enough for 2! Side dishes were especially delicious! Take time to look out decor throughout bar and dining rooms.
Overpriced, small portions, and very noisy. Impractical for a dinner
This is the best German food you will find in all of lower New England unless you have a German grandmother! The service is top notch. It is a little more expensive but it is worth it for both the food quality and the size of the portions.
Great food and quality friendly service. The special February menu is particularly intriguing. One of our favorite restaurants.
We really enjoyed our waiter Jeff and the food. Game month is always on our calendar.
Great German fare, friendly atmosphere, very good service. Makes it a must see destination!
Food and drinks were great. Carmella was awesome but it took what seemed like FOREVER (45 minutes, at least) to receive our entrees, totally unacceptable.
We enjoyed a nice meal, great service and terrific entertainment.
Excellent atmosphere, and service. Food could have been served hotter.
Great Prime Rib. Cooked perfectly. The server, Jeff was excellent.
Have never been disappointed by the Student Prince Cafe!!
Great food, very cool atmosphere. If you go you better get the giant pretzel!
My family looks forward to Game Month at the Student Prince every year, and we try to make reservations early enough in the month to ensure that all options are still being offered. However, the restaurant was out of the kebab sampler and was running low on duck wings when we visited on 2/16, which was surprising.
They were also offering Mako shark as an entree—and Mako is on the endangered list, so I was unhappy to see that. I meant to say something, but our server seemed overwhelmed, so she didn’t visit our table often, even though the restaurant was not full during the time my party of four was there (6-8 PM on a Sunday).
If going for the first time, plan to eat dessert elsewhere if you are still hungry; the options are just OK, and not very varied.
The food and overall experience was good as usual. The only exception was that we had to wait 20 minutes, even with a reservation.
I had a 7pm reservation booked through this website I was told to stand in the bar while a table was getting ready, I didn't get seated till 7:40pm, then we waitited till 9:05 pm to get our entrees which were luke warm at best, 5 people meal cost over 300 bucks and none of us drank, terrible service, food and overall experience. Me and my friends visit every year during game month for the experience but it felt like we were the hunted this time getting ripped off.
Awesome place, loved the decor, food was excellent!
Valentines Day dinner.
Delicious and fun. What a great place! We all had great meals and the whole atmosphere is wonderful.
Pheasant was dry and over cooked and nothing was done after telling server or manager. Duck legs had very little meat. Fresh fries were under cooked and Bland food and over oriced
Sheila our waitress was great. And having live music by the high top tables at 6:30 was very much appreciated!
The Student Prince never disappoints. Great German food, and beer. Efficient service and wonderful atmosphere. The valet parking is so convenient
Service was slow getting drinks that were included in the brunch
A lonely dinner in a wonderful place. We will return!
Bathroom was a bit of a mess. Should have been kept in better shape.
Wonderful atmosphere, personable & professional staff combined with outstanding German cuisine!
It was personal and excellent. Our waiter was very helpful. The owner, Andy, chatted with us and other guests for a while. Super experience!
Overall a pleasant evening. The food and service was very good, as always. A bit noisy but to be expected on a Friday evening.
we love christine!! always came at the right times to check on us and kept our glasses filled! 10/10
The Food was awesome! I will absolutely be back again when looking for a good German food. This is sooo much better then the "East Side Restaurant" in New Britain, CT.
We were VERY happy with The Student Prince. We sat at a High Top, so we got to enjoy the live entertainment. The Service was excellent AND everything we ordered was DELICIOUS ! Most impressed !
I have been to the Student Prince many times. I'll admit since the change in management I have had dinners which did not meet the historical quality I was used to. This last visit was good. The food met my expectations. Hopefully this will continue. The Student Prince (The Fort) is an iconic Springfield restaurant. Love the beer and fried cheese.
Food was okay at best, and definitely overpriced. Service was awful: slow, understaffed, and a crowded dining room makes for a bad combination. As a Bostonian, I'm admittedly a food snob and spoiled by an abundance of great eating establishments with really competent waitstaff and at fair prices. If this is the best Springfield has to offer, I'm glad I don't get there much.
Beautiful historic restaurant with true German food. Generous portions and very reasonable pricing.
We were there to celebrate my sister’s 30th wedding anniversary. We enjoyed delicious food, and many laughs. Jeff, our server, was top notch, providing excellent service, and entertainment! Thank you.
First time at the Student Prince. The building was old and unique. Great atmosphere. Food was excellent and the waitress was lovely! Looking forward to going back someday.
The best German food in the area by far! Would recommend anything on the menu!
We asked and received a booth in the bar. Great food, service, fresh German draft and atmosphere. We came with people who hadn’t been there in 20 years! They’ll be back sooner the next time!
I already have! A great atmosphere, unique setting, friendly service.
I’ve had lots of German food in Germany and the US and the food here is a major disappointment. Veal was tender but tasteless; Spaetzle was oily and old; sauerkraut was ok but a little sweet. I suggest a menu reset ... kitchen staff should check recipes and/or visit Germany
