The Swan at Swineford
Need to book at 6:53 PM?
If you're looking for a country pub in a rural setting - and one that's only ten minutes away from the busy Bath centre - then you really can't do much better than The Swan.
The Swan looks out at willow-edged fields with the River Avon meandering by in the distance. The pub's garden is also understandably popular with both customers and children in equal measure.
The Swan has earned a reputation for serving unpretentious, down-to-earth,satisfying and well-presented food, as well as their extensive range of well-kept beers and cider.
Please note between 3-5pm our food menu is sandwiches, chips, and bar snacks
We usually have a great experience at this pub but on Sunday we were disappointed.
We sat outside & looked for cutlery on the table where such things are made available. There weren’t enough forks for all of our group. The member of staff who brought our food to the table was asked if we could have 5 more forks & replied that he didn’t know if there were any! No attempt was made to reassure us or go to get some more leaving us feeling that we might have to eat our roast lunch with our hands.
Food was ok but not as good as usual for the Swan. Hopefully that was a one off bad experience but if next time we visit is no better we will not be returning.
The food was good and the staff were polite and helpful. Had a beef pie which had a very good pastry. Vegetables were well cooked.
Lovely pub with really friendly staff and great food. Nice play area for the kids too.
Great food and a brilliant atmosphere. We will be back!
7 of us booked for a Saturday Lunch. Restaurant area was full of flies and wasps. Food came out at various times so members of our table were left waiting. The crab salad was poorly presented and had hardly any crab, the plaice fillet still had the cod roe sacks attached and was dumped on top of a mess of warm soggy salad. The food was poor in general. Water glasses had lipstick on and plates were left on our table attracting more flies despite requesting that the table was cleared twice. This is my second attempt at a bath Ales pub lunch and this was just as bad as the other one. Won’t be visiting a pub in this chain again.
Good menu providing food at a very reasonable price. Good value for money in a relaxed atmosphere. Very friendly staff.
Food was served on cold plates and when notifying staff that food was poorly coked and not appetising all I was told was ^ill let the kitchen know"Seating was cramped with a view alongside a dirty behind bar area. I booked our table well inadvance and it felt make shift to squeeze in another table told 'it's because of the balloon fest'. Not coming back embaressingly poor and expsnsive
Very nice Sunday lunch
The Trio was very nice....
Only comment about the table, it was a little bit cramped and close to others.
But overall definitely return..!
We had a table of 10 people meeting for A family lunch. Never been before but looked nice. The food itself I thought was cooked nicely and tasty. However, it was the food that was the problem. The salads were mainly just a bag of leaves dumped on the plate, there was a teeny tiny bit of chicken for the chicken burger, hardly visible, not enough merangue in the Eton mess, and did not provide value for money in terms of the food considering the dishes themselves were quite pricey! Staff were attentive and friendly but food let it down massively. With a few adjustments could be lovely but as it stands I would not come back or recommend.
A very enjoyable meal in the garden on a beautifully warm evening. Staff and service were excellent
Will defiantly be coming back food amazing drink selection amazing and pub amazing
Overall this was a very enjoyable experience. Staff couldn't be more helpful. The food was delicious, generous hot and very tasty. It was great to have an outside space for the children.
Our only comment would be that the childrens menu was fairly limited and perhaps was more suited to older children. However the stadd did their best to accommodate younger childrens' tastes.
We had a lovely lunch and the young man behind the bar was friendly and polite . He was a credit to the pub
Gave our table away, despite being on time. Children’s meals turned up twenty minutes later than adults. We were offered a free round of drinks, due to problems. Then they reneged on the offer and charged for the drinks. Terrible service.
Booked a table, ordered Sunday lunch. Bar staff were very nice but they didnt tell us there was a long wait. We had our drinks and waited 1 hour and 30 mins for our food. The pub was very crowded and the bar staff taking loads more orders. We watched many burger meals that were ordered before us being served but the Sunday lunches were delayed. Bit odd as it was a Sunday. We paid for our drinks and left without eating. Don't take more orders if you can't cope with the ones you have
Fantastic dessert! Good to have children's play area, would definitely return
Lovely food and well presented, my husband just said that the only thing he would critique is that the crackling on the pork belly wasnt crispy.
Lovely location but parking can be an issue, the car park and roadside were full.
Staff friendly and helpful.
Always had a good meal here.
Lovely evening we sat in the garden to eat - very pleasant - we were a group of work colleagues all enjoyed the food.
Lovely evening . Would recommend to all with children as you have the option of eating in or out on the lovely garden. Will certainly be going again.
Great setting, the food was stunning and the staff were excellent and friendly
Good food, fish and chips, well cooked. Nice pinot grigio. Sat outside, very pleasant evening
Had a really lovely family meal at the Swan. We had roast dinner which was super tasty. Only negative was that the mini roast for kids was served with the same veg as the adults reg cabbage, cabbage and celery which my fussy 5year old was not keen on.
Cosy pub, great food. Good service. Lovely garden with plenty of benches.
Been here many times before. Although none of us are locals, we're always treated as if we are. Couldn't recommend the place highly enough.
The food was amazing I would defo recommend only thing is staff need to be aware that customers were waiting a long to time to be served
Visited on a Friday evening. Pub was fairly quiet probably due to adverse weather. Food was good but service a little slow mainly due to a large table being served at the same time. Would visit again
Customer service was good up until the main course & then it was NON EXISTENT!! Couldn’t quite believe it really as we were one of the only tables still left at that time. It was so poor, we weren’t offered either desserts or coffee, which we had planned on. We were completely ignored & so we didn’t leave a tip, which we always do. Plus even though we did enjoy the food, which was gorgeous, we won’t be back. Very strange & very disappointing
The staff are all friendly, food was delicious and would definitely recommend to friends and visit again.
The service was initially friendly but became poor when I complained about my food. I had to wait a very long time for a replacement dish by which time everyone else had finished. The menu didn’t represent the sample menu on the website and none of us enjoyed our food. When I explained how disappointed we were, the cost of my food and a round of drinks was taken off the bill. We don’t want to return and I would only recommend for a drink as it is a nice pub.
Great food and ambience in lovely British pub. Little trays of trivial pursuit cards on the table make for a good laugh.
Good value for money and friendly service. Lovely outdoor space for children too.
This was my second time visiting and we had a lovely time. We booked literally half an hour before turning up so we were pleasently suprised that they had received the booking and had everything ready for us. 4 stars for the food as the beef pie was a little dry and the venison burger my partner ordered arrived with the beef burger style presentation including cheese but it all tasted good so we weren't concerned. That said, the food is generally awesome and the ingredients/acompaniments are well thought out.
I would recommend the pub for drinks as it's in a lovely location. The Sunday roast was okay, although the cauliflower cheese had been reheated and was very dry and the three bean roast resembled a burger and lacked flavour, the roast potatoes were lovely though! Nice pub, lovely location just needs a little more attention to detail with the roasts.
Really great food and lovely staff! Would recommend this place to everyone
I hadn't been here a few times now and it never disappoints! Definitely worth a visit. Re: 4 stars for cake for money. I only have it 4 as I thought the desserts were a little expensive, but overall, the meal was excellent.
Had a fantastic Anniversary meal with family!
Venison was spot on👍
Coming back soon....
Food was wonderful, very tasty and good value. The Steak & Darkside pie was absolutely delicious and the Venison steak superb. Good wine list, good service, nice beers - the only downside for me was the pop music / rock stuff in the background - not quite apposite for such good gourmet food - for my taste.. but it wasn't overly intrusive.. and the food just took over anyway.. ! But try a bit of Bach maybe, or some gentle jazzy stuff.. anything but thumpy schlockpop..
Great menu and enjoyed the steak and also the Swan cheeseburgers! Friendly atmosphere and lovely staff. Would recommend a visit!
The Menu was rather limited and made worse by the Lamb not being available. The Asparagus was good as was the Smoked Haddock. The service was rather "matter of fact" and not very personal. The ambiance was ok, if rather noisy. The drinks choice was very good and the pub in general was a reasonable choice for lunch.
We had a lovely Sunday lunch for Mothers day - our expectations were high, we have been visiting the Swan for a long time and we are always very impressed with both the food and the service. They didn't disappoint, we had wonderful roast dinners and desserts and the staff were very attentive.
