I love the tannery, always such lovely food and friendly staff. I got burns from the gravy and the chef put some gel on and wrapped it in cling film which was very kind.
Food was nice enough, though steaks were cooked a little on the rare side. Sadly though, for the price, we found it to be just a bit average. Perhaps our experience was affected by the staff who, in the main, couldn’t really be arsed.. On two separate drink orders an item was forgotten and the waitress who brought the food to the table was genuinely miserable.
Nice to drop in to the informal upstairs bistro now & then. Very busy Saturday evening (car park almost full), apparently due to the online booking service not having been limited. We were still seated in a few minutes. Food & service were very good in spite of the crowd. Flat Iron steak was excellent. Only minor complaint was that the ceiling lighting directly above the table wasn't working.
Lovely setting, the food is cooked beautifully and delicious. A little bit of a long wait for our meal but made up for it with good service and taste. Good timing with the birthday cake and made it a lovely experience. Staff are friendly and professional. Thank you so much to all for making my daughters 10th birthday a great day.
We enjoyed a very nice family meal on Christmas Eve. The food was great. The staff was friendly. Our only complaint was that the service was extremely slow! The restaurant was not busy as we were one of only a few tables seated at the time and it was an early meal reservation. It took quite sometime for our food to come out and drinks were not topped or seconds offered during that time. Luckily we were not in a hurry and could be patient.
Fab food, friendly staff, would definitely go back
Attentive and accommodating staff, great food and really special ambiance courtesy of a talented live singer...in short, a fabulous, fun and fantastic festive Sunday lunch!! 🎄🎅🏻
Perhaps the best fillet steak I have ever eaten! Outstanding food
Great service and food on a Friday night! Loved the sirloin steak!
Firstly I had pre booked the chop house three weeks prior to receiving an email saying had to move us to bistro because of private party! Elderly parents anniversary..stairs were an issue. Very hot, noisy and crowded!Table of 6, had to get up look for waitress to order drinks. Waitress almost spilt pepper sauce over my father, no apology! Just grinned. Meal was just okay, nothing special. Toilets were terrible.
Excellent food and friendly service. Would 100% recommend
Very guick and friendly service. Enjoyed the food, enjoyable evening.
Excellent tasty food. Very friendly service. No hesitation in going back again.
The food was and always is great ! The staff are friendly but I found not very attentive on this visit I kept having to ask for empty glasses to be taken and cutlery that wasn’t needed which when dinning with a two and one year old you need things like that out the way , I also found it not good that red hot food and plates kept being passed over and put straight in front of my one year old very unsafe! But it’s still great food and surroundings
Been to better Chinese restaurants. Lack of atmosphere. Live band started singing as we were finishing. It was so loud we couldn’t talk. Arrived to have to wait an extra 5 mins due to nothing being ready. Over half an hour wait on food. For it to be cold and underwhelming. Honestly won’t be back
Absolutely spot on, we came for our anniversary and booked online without fuss.
I have an egg allergy and they checked everything and was brilliant. Such good food I’m booking for my whole family soon
The spring roll starter was lovely. Also the Tempura chicken - very tasty. I had the satay monkfish and king prawn noodles. They were fantastic! Really filling. My partner had the hake which was lovely but he was disappointed as he only got one prawn! Great friendly prompt service at a very reasonable price.
Food was beautiful , if I had to pick a fault I would say the gaps between courses were slightly to long. And we were seated way to close to another couple , I really don't want to listen in their conversation as I'm sure they didn't want to here ours..overall we thoroughly enjoyed the meal, it was our first time there as we had been given a voucher as a gift, we would go again and we would recommend it to friends ..very nice
Never had a bad meal here.
The food is always great.
The service was poor. Two out of four of us were brought the wrong meal. Food was just ok.
Booked our table for 1845 arrived at 1830 our food arrived at 1945 which for 4 steaks was a long wait although the food was good when it eventually arrived it spoiled our evening there was no apologies from the staff and no reason why we had to wait so long. It may be a while before we return. I look forward to your reply.
Brought my mother here for mother’s day, we were very much looking forward to it, but very disappointed with what we experienced. Where sat in a booth that was beside the door and seemed out of the way from everyone else. Waited 15/20 minutes for our order to be taken. After we finished our meal no one came down to lift our plates or offer us desert menu’s, we waited 15 minutes before going to the bar to pay the bill. Very poor service, only seen two waiters, which on Mother’s Day is a poor management judgement. The food was lovely, but based on our service experience we won’t be returning and unfortunately wouldn’t recommend.
A great place for a spot lunch of lunch far for the madding crowd. As it's so close the train station, we will return by train and try the evening menu, the steaks look and sound great?
Food was good. Service was appalling. Had a table booked for 1915. Had to wait to 1945 to get seated. No one had been at our table we went to. After 30 mins of being given menu, we had to ask for our order to be taken. Dessert.. took 20 mins from ordering.
We were early but our table was ready, not a massive menu but not hard to find a suitable dish. Service was fine, food was fine, all in all a pleasant afternoon.
Firstly the food was delicious absolutely no complaints from any of our party here. The issue was the waiting we had 3 young children with us aged 1.5-9 and it took just under 3 hours to have our meal and waited 40 minutes alone for dessert which was ice cream and mallows for the kids. I appreciate that the team was understaffed (even though upstairs wasnt overly busy) the wait wasnt the biggest issue. Not once did any member of staff come and apologise for the wait between any of the courses or see if there was anything they could do for the kids (more colouring pages etc) nor was there an apology from the servers when the wait was flagged which would have made the situation much better. I appreciate that the G.M did apologise and took 10% from the bill after providing every excuse under the sun for the wait but having managed a busy restaurant for several years from experience the situation could have been handled so much better. Also with regards to the deserts I would strongly suggest ditch serving the custard in sauce pots the portion was ridiculous.
We have dined in the Tannery on numerous occasions (we live locally) and have always had a good meal so for this reason we chose to celebrate my husbands birthday there.
We were given the table we wanted by our friendly waiter and drinks and food orders were taken promptly. We all ordered steaks which came cooked as we requested but unfortunately the steaks were a tad tough (picanha cut) but they were flavoursome and the sides were decidedly lukewarm!
We ordered only one dessert which was delivered to the only other occupied table in the upstairs bistro and when our friendly waiter returned to check on us approximately five minutes later, he retrieved the dessert from the other table and advised us that the couple at that table hadn’t touched it!
I decided not to say anything about the steaks, the temperature of the food or the ‘risky’ dessert at the time as I didn’t wish to dampen the celebration of my husbands birthday. I also think prices have risen and are a bit high with our meal working out at around £33 per head for 4 mains, 1 dessert 1 glass of wine, a G&T 3 beers and 2 cokes!
In saying this, as we’ve had a number of good meals on previous occasions I will give the Tannery another visit and really hope that standards are better and this was a one off!
Had a really nice meal here at the weekend. Food was beautiful, service was great - prompt and attentive. Hope it won't be long before we're back
Was lovely the only thing was that the waiters were very unorganised
Service little slow due to time of year- Christmas. But consistently excellent food & really enjoy going here
Food was good but the service was appalling. We ended up walking out having waited twenty five minutes for our desert. Trying to pay the bill was another mess and we were once again left waiting a further fifteen minutes before we could pay.
Great quality steaks, only negative they are pricey and don”t include a side.
Great cosy welcoming restaurant. Good varied menu. Well presented, tasty and satisfying food. Helpful attentive staff. Would recommend it.
Excellent venue, close to railway if you don’t want to drive, food very good, service also good.
