The Three Crowns
Behind its imposing granite facade, the Three Crowns is a magical mix of 13th century features and contemporary comfort and style. From beamed ceiling and huge inglenook fireplaces, to a glass atrium and stunning courtyard garden, the Three Crowns is a delightful place to enjoy great food and a comfortable stay.
We offer a delicious menu featuring fresh, local seasonal produce, cooked to order by our talented team. We also offer an extensive wine list and a great selection of soft drinks. We have a policy of ‘keeping it local’ and use local ingredients in our dishes and stock local wines and juices. Whether you choose to eat in the cosy, traditional front bar with its log fire and mullioned windows or the stunning light and open glass atrium we are sure you will enjoy your meal.

Disappointing. The chef needs to learn how to make a Croque Monsieur or it is best to remove it from the menu. That said the staff were friendly and attentive.
The menu was absolutely delicious - perfectly cooked monkfish, a very succulent pork roast, wonderful wines and a great place for 4 old friends to have a lovely, relaxed dinner in beautiful surroundings.
We had the roast and it was lovely! Good value 2 course menu
Absolutely perfect! Service, food, atmosphere, everything, all spot on! Can't wait to go again.
Good food. Didn’t appear to be enough staff - long wait at the bar which was left unattended for periods and long wait for food to arrive. Staff were very friendly despite being busy and it a very good pub.
Food was lovely, my only complaint is that there were only two vegetarian options - both from the bar menu nothing on the evening meal menu. Such a shame but what we had was lovely.
Really slow service takes ages to get acknowledged at he bar or served. Unimpressed with the food, hard vegetables, fatty meat, no crackling with the pork as stated on the menu, not particularly hot either, inconsistent portion sizes, the table next to us had nearly double the portion size that we had. Couldn't find our booking on their system. Every time I go to the Three Crowns I am disappointed with the food and the service, such a shame as I love the building and the feel of the place.
Friendly staff, lovely food
The Three crowns is consistently good - we have recommended it to friends for years now since the new owners and refurbishment. The other pubs in Chagford have all upped their game and we are now spoilt for choice here but each pub has its own unique feel. we have always had great food and service in the Crowns and it is a very popular choice.
We enjoyed the evening very much and were impressed by the food we had, and the service. We did feel the area we were seated in was a bit chilly. We returned two days later for afternoon tea and sat in a different area which was warmer. Our advice is increase heating or put in extra doors.
It was our anniversary and the staff were so lovely! We’ve eaten there several times before but the food this time was really excellent - my hake was delicious. The restaurant was pretty full and there was a lovely atmosphere and buzz. A great meal!
Lovely meal and attentive staff. We throughly enjoyed the evening.
Amazing food and friendly staff. Would definitely recommend!
Food was great. Staff attentive. Whole evening an enjoyable experience.
Service was attentive and readily available but not over the top and pushy. I had pigeon followed by fillet steak followed by sticky toffee pudding, all three courses were excellent and well cooked. The pigeon was left nice and pink, steak cooked perfectly to my preference and the pudding I could swap clotted cream for ice cream. All of this was accompanied by a superb bottle of Chablis.
Poor food, inattentive service and not busy so no excuses.
I haven't been in The Tree Crowns for almost a quarter of a Century. I live in Cyprus now but am a Devonian and walked the Moor most weekends. I liked The Three Crowns then for its atmosphere, dog friendliness, good food at reasonable prices and the variety of ales. I am pleased to say that when we arrived on Sunday lunchtime it was almost as if the intervening period since my last visit had never happened. The food was as good as I remembered, the fire was burning brightly, dogs were lying under the tables, wonderful. I will see you again when I visit in the Spring of next year. Thank you.
Prompt, friendly service
Food was fresh and tasty
Lovely restaurant room, cosy atmosphere
Family birthday meal for my 60th
We have visited The Three Crowns in Chagford a few times now. Usually to mark an occasion. Last time and more so this time we left feeling disappointed. We booked 2pm on a Sunday lunchtime expecting to have the tradition roast. We placed our order with lovely staff-starters and then 1x vegetarian roast, 1x beef & 1x pork roast. 10 minutes later we were told there was no vegetarian or beef left. The alternative vegetarian meal was chosen & the beef changed to pork. So no real problem. 5 minutes later the original order was ‘now available ‘ ok so changed back again. So no real problem again. When the meals arrived there was no Yorkshire puddings. When we asked why the answer was ‘oh we have run out, it’s been really busy’
Now from the time we placed the original order to the main course being delivered was well over half an hour. Plenty of time for a chef to make more Yorkshire Puddings. This left us feeling disappointed and paying for not a complete meal. We stayed for coffee which would have been nice if were complimentary but no. The young lady serving was very apologetic and we made sure she understood that we did not blame her but we’re not sure that an 45 min drive & then disappointment is worth it.
The seafood sharing platter was superb in quality and quantity. The pub is charming. The conservatory is sunny and spacious. The staff are efficient and cheerful. Can’t wait to return
Warm welcome, lovely environment, prompt service and great food. Did not anticipate limited vegetables with lamb main, and waitress did not know what veg was available, nor the range available for a bitter shandy. But
The food was quite well. There was no table cloth at all and only paper table napkins. The service was all right.
Relaxed friendly atmosphere. Excellent food and service
Very good food in a nice environment in a glasshouse.
The food was very good and the conservatory a pleasant place to eat. However the welcome and attitude of some of the staff was sadly lacking.
Great food and service. Atmosphere was really good too. The cheeseboard is not to be missed.
Whatever the meal it’s delicious. Friendly staff. Lovely place. Highly recommended.
A wonderful place to eat and stay. We recommend the seafood platter and wine flights. The wine flights in particular are great value for money. We’ll definitely be visiting again.
Good choice of food at a fair price. Nice location and ambience. Friendly service.
Reliably good food , well cooked and well presented. Good service and very pleasant venue make this good value for money.
Rib eye Steak sehr gut. Salate köstlich, selbstverständlich nur frische Zutaten. Der Kaffee ebenfalls sehr gut. Das Three Crowns kann man sehr empfehlen.
Lovely location in Chagford;
Great night out with friends!
The food was delicious and the service perfect. We shared the Haloumi stack and Greek salad and both were tasty. The chips with the stack were yum!
Came here a few years ago and loved it but this time we were sat in the conservatory near the door so every time someone came in and out we were in a cold draught! There was a bone in the ham hock starter and the steak was tough! Although there were plenty of tables available we were seated next to a group of about 10 people so we had to shout to hear each other. After asking the waitress to give us 10 minutes before looking at the dessert menu she never came back! Also the table was very very sticky! Hope this was just one of those nights as the bar and the staff were very welcoming.
One of the best meals we have had in a long time. The use of local suppliers for the food is also great.
Wonderful welcome and room upgrade. We had a lovely comfort room at the front of the hotel. V clean with good quality linen. Front of house staff exceptional. Excellent supper with friends in the courtyard restaurant. Recommend the steak. Had to park the car in the local car park but v close and if you book a superior room parking is included.
We had a pork belly and steak main course plus a lemon posset dessert.. all superb.. we were “passing through” the area and are so glad we went to The Three Crowns.. a super pub cooking great food..
We have eaten at the Three Crowns several times recently. The first occasion was excellent all round. Last time it was very noisy and the service was poor. On this occasion I was disappointed to find that the choice in the lunchtime menu is now very restricted. In fact it is so limited that your average pub nearby has a wider and more diverse choice at less cost. While the food was hot and tasty enough there was little finesse in the presentation.
On the basis of this experience I cannot recommend the Three Crowns.
Lovely pub and could not fault the food. Excellent value for money. The only criticism would be is that staff walked past our table on numerous occasions and did not clear our plates away. Very friendly staff. Would definitely recommend.
