The Three Crowns
Behind its imposing granite facade, the Three Crowns is a magical mix of 13th century features and contemporary comfort and style. From beamed ceiling and huge inglenook fireplaces, to a glass atrium and stunning courtyard garden, the Three Crowns is a delightful place to enjoy great food and a comfortable stay.
We offer a delicious menu featuring fresh, local seasonal produce, cooked to order by our talented team. We also offer an extensive wine list and a great selection of soft drinks. We have a policy of ‘keeping it local’ and use local ingredients in our dishes and stock local wines and juices. Whether you choose to eat in the cosy, traditional front bar with its log fire and mullioned windows or the stunning light and open glass atrium we are sure you will enjoy your meal.
Excellent food and friendly staff and easy parking
Good place to eat at lunch-time. Although the menu is limited this is more than compensated for by the quality of the food which was hot, beautifully presented and very tasty - what more do you need? While not cheap the values is good.
We stayed overnight and ate in the restaurant for my birthday earlier this week. What a find! Everything about the stay, the food, service and ambiance was impeccable.
Celebrating my daughter’s engagement and everything could not have been better! The steak was amazing. Thank you.
Shame about the service had to go up the bar to ask several times for drinks.
Also sat waiting along time to pay the bill.
Hopefully next time will be a better experience.
Good service and great food. Also great treat. The team were really helpful and Kevin went out of his way to cater for a vegan in the group
Steak was fab, try it with the Shiraz , highly recommended👍
Stayed the night and had a delicious evening meal.
Very nice staff made us feel very special
Ate on a Saturday night as staying at the hotel. Very good fillet steak but a bit disappointed there were not many main course options as I would have liked duck. Service good and staff cheerful and friendly. Nice atmosphere both in the bar and eating area. Nicely decorated for Christmas.
Great service, reaĺy nice ambience and lovely food.
We have eaten here many times before and had excellant meals, however this time it wasn't up to the previous standards. The meal itself was good as they always use good quality local ingredients however we waited quite a long time for our meals to arrive and then had further waits for condiments and vegetables/side dishes which were part of the meal so the food became quickly cold which rather spoiled the overall enjoyment of the meal. We also had to wait for the wine to be served and would have expected that to be served in good time especially as we had to wait for the meals to be cooked, we did remind them we had ordered it. I had prebooked a table reservation there but when we were shown to our table it was positioned in direct line to the front door making it very draughty and uncomfortable as it was a cold day...i had to put my coat back on shortly after sitting down.....eventually we were relocated after asking twice at the reception desk if we could move to one of the other empty tables in the restaurant area, none of which had reservations on them....when we did move the waitress bringing our food to us said that table was never popular for exactly the same reasons we did not want to remain there and in her words "everyone complains about the draught there" so it wasn't just us moaning unnessesarily....not sure why they don't just rearrange the layout really as there seemed enough room to do that? The restaurant itself wasn't overly busy for a Sunday....so not sure why our experience this time wasn't as good as usual there.
This was the first time I'd been to the Three Crowns, and the first time I'd been to the lovely Chagford. Everything about my experience was perfect - easy online booking, varied menu to suit all tastes (although I didn't look with a vegan/vegetarian perspective but imagine they are catered for.) The staff were very friendly and efficient and my husband says his draught beer was excellent. There was a good choice of gins for the ladies (and gents too, of course!) The prices were very reasonable and the portions were very good too - my burger was delicious and my companions were very pleased with their meals, sausage and mash, and fish and chips. All the meals were very well-presented and looked appetising. Sadly we had no room for desserts :-( . The coffee was excellent too (my decaf was very good considering some decaf coffees I've had elsewhere). Will definitely recommend and return.
Loved our evening here. The pub and restaurant has a lovely ambience and our room was lovely. We have booked for December as we liked it so much.
Excellent food, it’s was delicious. I recommend the duck and salmon...cooked to perfection. Great choice of wine and spirits. Something for everyone on the menu.
We were made to wait 45 minutes for our meals. We arrived at 12.45 and food was received at 1.30pm and after later arrives received theirs. We think somebody forgot us or food was not acceptable but seemed disorganised. Nearly complained and walked out and neatly dpoilt the day out.
Enjoyer the relaxed evening, thank u. We missed the cottage pie on there menu😀
Very pleasant meal, well served and a comfortable location
Beautiful old Devon Inn with modern amenity. Staff very friendly and helpful, food good and well priced, Sunday Lunch very nice but the evening menu is just as good. Cozy and warm in foul weather but lots of space. Dog friendly.
Excellent food and service in a cosy bar environment
I really enjoyed our delicious meal at the Three Crowns.Wonderful atmospheric place with polite and attentive service.
My wife's hamberger meat was tough but my steak was good
My rump steak was absolutely awful. Over priced and three quarters inedible.
We visited for Sunday Lunch... Chagford is a very pretty, sophisticated Dartmoor village and the pub itself reflects that. Traditional but stylish. We sat in the glass atrium area... (this would not have been my first preference as I prefer intimate, characterful spaces with low lighting - of which there were also many - but my fellow diners loved it. Three of us ate the vegetarian Sunday Lunch (beetroot, nut roast) which was excellent with perfectly executed vegetables. One of the party ordered a Caesar salad (a regular favourite choice) and declared that it was the best he had eaten anywhere... Having moved to mid Devon this year from South Cheshire (where we were spoilt for choice with gastro type pubs) The Three Crowns is a very welcome find and now set to be our local (even if we do have to drive 12 miles :) The staff were charming.
We booked the restaurant for our anniversary as we were staying at the inn. The menu was quite limited, and very British. We both ended up ordering burgers, which came without the Bacon we had asked to be added to them (despite being charged on the bill for this). The burgers were very plain and not very easy to eat as they were dry and came with only a small amount of relish, rather than a sauce. They were also overpriced as the cheese and bacon were an additional £1 each. My husband's starter was nice but I didn't like any of the three choices on offer. I instead ordered the selection of breads at £2. What came were two bread rolls with a slab of butter. Although nice, these should have been offered complimentary as most other places will do, especially when charging so much for the rest of the menu. The other diners were dressed very casually and were quite loud, making me feel overdressed, and I felt that for the prices charged, a dress code should have been stipulated to improve the overall ambience.
Truly outstanding: fantastic food served by delightful staff in beautiful surroundings , and lovely accommodation: We will most defiantly be back.
Brilliant restaurant with reliable excellent food. Been back a few times.
A delicious Sunday lunch with imaginative starters - the Scotch egg was first class. It was extremely busy and the team was under pressure, but the inevitable delays between courses were a godsend to us as the prtions were very generous and a break was needed. All in all an excellent experience on our fourth visit and we'll assuredly return.
Lovely atmosphere in the atrium, beautifully light and airy. Staff were all charming and food is lovely. Will certainly go again.
The staff at the Three Crowns are lovely, can't do enough to make your evening enjoyable. The food was very good and also the choice of wines and gins. Had a lovely evening and will definitely be back.
Great feature pub and outdoor dining available, good food and excellent staff, will return.
Found the noise levels excessive, but this outweighed the welcome, service and quality of food.
First time visited, will visit again soon.
The food was nice not amazing and actually quite pricey, good not great.
This lovely English pub is on Rick Steves list of must go to eating places and we’re glad we listened
Service was good, friendly and attentive. Food was good, not large portions but presented nicely and were tasty.
Good food well cooked, parking is a problem but that goes for anything in Chagford
We have eaten here a few times and the food is always excellent. The staff are all friendly and make you feel at home. There is a great mix of dishes from standard pub food (but of a high quality!) to more upmarket kind of dishes - all tasty. We've not had a bad dish here between us in several trips. Atmosphere is lovely too.
Absolutely loved this hotel/meal in fact the whole experience was excellent! dog friendly room was just that! perfect access & smart/clean etc. evening meal was delicious & beautifully presented. breakfast was delicious & a lovely NON greasy 'fry-up'. we will be back!
A lovely welcoming place with a good choice on the lunch menu. My 10 month old granddaughter loved it and the facilities for babies was good. Can highly recommend
As usual excellent attentive service by Tim and his team matched by excellent choice and quality of food. There is a wide choice for all from bar snacks to fine dining and don’t miss out on the deserts!! The beer garden is a lovely place for lunch in the Summer months..
Lovely hotel, friendly staff and gorgeous venue to eat in.
Excellant choice of drinks and wines.
Our starters were delicious,Ham hock and Goats cheese pannacotta but the main was a litlle dissapointing.
Wild mushroom risotto could of been a lot hotter and the hake portion was very small.
The cheese board was delicious.
Will return for lunch.
