Welcome to the Three Crowns, a beautiful, part-thatched 5-star inn set in the heart of the pretty Dartmoor town of Chagford.

Behind its imposing granite facade, the Three Crowns is a magical mix of 13th century features and contemporary comfort and style. From beamed ceiling and huge inglenook fireplaces, to a glass atrium and stunning courtyard garden, the Three Crowns is a delightful place to enjoy great food and a comfortable stay.

We offer a delicious menu featuring fresh, local seasonal produce, cooked to order by our talented team. We also offer an extensive wine list and a great selection of soft drinks. We have a policy of ‘keeping it local’ and use local ingredients in our dishes and stock local wines and juices. Whether you choose to eat in the cosy, traditional front bar with its log fire and mullioned windows or the stunning light and open glass atrium we are sure you will enjoy your meal.

Lovely evening to celebrate partner’s birthday. They recognised this as soon as we arrived. Prompt service but not pushy. Speedy arrival of excellent quality and quantity of food.

Service levels are far to low to provide adequate service. Prior to our main courses coming out in between our starters and mains, we ordered a bottle of wine. Our mains arrived, no wine. Half way though our meal we got up, went to the bar and ordered the water and a bottle of wine again. Still nothing. We finished our mains with no water, no wine - no drinks whatsoever - still no one came. We went to the bar to cancel the wine and order the bill, that arrived in two seconds flat. Was the venue busy, NO, was anyone rushed off their feet? NO - it was simply bad service, which ruined good food (if a bit salty) and the afternoon. Table looked at 12.30pm out by 1.30pm with just one pint with our starters. Crazy! We did ask what was wrong and were told 'I'm going as fast as I can! 3 glasses, and a bottle of wine - half hour wait with 25 customers in the building and 5 staff? A joke!

I like the 3 crowns but as this is the 2nd time in a month I have requested a table in bar and was told no ..My friend joined me and was told she could have a table in bar so am at odds ..I think the customer service does not reflect the building or .The ladies were very nice and the gentleman that was barked at by dog was pleasant..but honestly it wasn't like it used to be , my friend too said the same thing .It's like no one really was bothered..I work in customer service so feel a bit disappointed..I definitely would think twice before returning..I think Msybe explore the training needs.

Shockingly bad service. We have been before and stayed many years ago and the service was excellent. This time the experience was utterly disappointing. We drove from Cornwall with my daughter and partner (who were continuing their journey home to London) to celebrate a 40th Wedding Anniversary and 30th Birthday. The male 'greeter' was casual and told us where our table was, rather than leading us to it. We were then given menus. After a while our drinks order was taken which included a bottle of champagne and a jug of water. The drinks eventually arrived, minus the water, which we reminded them about. The male greeter served the champagne and we asked what the pie and the fish of the day were. His response "it's on the specials menu" We didn't have one, so he told us in a rather offhand manner. Sometime later the other male, presumably the head waiter came to take our food order. My choice was not available (would have expected to be told this at the start). Time went by and no sign of the food and still no water so my husband went to the bar and asked for the 3rd time. No apology, all very indifferent. People came and went and we noticed food being brought out to several tables who had arrived long after us. At no point did anyone come over to see if we required anything else! After an absurdly long wait my husband went to the bar to enquire where our food was. A junior waitress then came to tell us that the order hadn't gone through because it hadn't been registered. By this time we were more than a little agitated and asked to speak to the head waiter who had taken the order. He was unfazed, but did agree not to charge for the food. After a further lengthy wait and still no food, I enquired again via the 'greeter and said how totally poor the service was and that all front of house staff needed training, ridiculously he agreed!! Eventually our food which was good arrived after a 1.30hr wait. We left very disappointed with the whole experience.

Delicious food and good wine, lovely staff, and a beautiful environment. There is a great selection of food, and as a person who can’t have dairy, having delicious dairy free puddings (beyond sorbet) is an absolute winner for me.
