Food was very good with reasonable choices. Service was very attentive though they could have been more smartly dressed. There was unfortunately a birthday party that was very noisy which somewhat spoiled the ambience.

We found the Tolbooth to be welcoming and efficient. Choice of courses was good. Tasty food. Something for everyone. Wine a bit pricey.

We had a delicious meal here. We had family over from France and he is a chef and he was very impressed with the food. The oysters were lovely and fresh, mussels were good, hake, pork belly and ox cheek for mains everyone enjoyed. It wasn’t busy but it was a Thursday night. The young waiter/ trainee sommelier was very good and helped with my food intolerances well and was very knowledgeable about the food and the wine. All in all an excellent night.

Took my friend here for a belated birthday treat and was not disappointed. The food is amazing cooked to perfect. Could not fault it. Creme brulee was too die for. Thank you so much we will be back.

Used to be one of my favourite restaurants. Setting is stunning and used to be very reasonably priced, especially lunch ,menu.Under new management, empty on a Friday lunchtime,no lunch menu.We had bread and water offered to us before we even sat down.Despite asking for tap water we were given a ridiculously priced bottled water at £4.50! Not a great menu choice although oysters were lovely despite £3.50 each and husband's lemon sole was fine too but £25 ! Atmosphere in this restaurant used to be great but unfortunately too intent in getting as much money out of you as possible! No we don't want bread after being asked at least 4 times and no we dont want expensive drinks menu either!Love visiting Stonehaven but will be the fantastic Lobster shack on the harbour from now on

Can recommend Rock Turbot for main course. Lovely piece of fish, perfectly cooked and served with vermouth beurre blanc. Delicious flavours. Great venue for a special treat.

We took friends there to celebrate their golden wedding. The staff were so pleasant and friendly; moreover they took great care with adapting dishes for one of our party who has food allergies. I was thrilled to have the chance to have oysters; the hake and chorizo cassoulet was delicious, and the choice of wines was superb. Puddings were pronounced very tasty; I shared a cheeseboard with my husband which could have been a tad more adventurous. We had such a lovely time, looking over the bay while eating and chatting. Great for a treat but maybe just maybe consider a set lunch option (comme en France!), and then we would be back more often.

I have never before had such a delicious Haddock steak. The sides were also great. The only reason for not giving 5* across the board was that there was a very noisy group. Not the fault of the restaurant, but due to the size and shape of the space the noise seemed amplified. Overall I would come back.

Great food and service; real attention to our happiness and satisfaction. We were very much of clear importance to the staff who were attentive and pleasant. Food was tasty, interesting, fresh and nicely balanced flavours and portion sizes.

We had a delicious lunch with friends, with a great view of the harbour to accompany the amazing food. Special mention has to go to the Cumbrae oysters which were probably some of the best we have ever had! Service was first class and everyone was friendly and efficient. We will definitely be making a return visit.

A lovely birthday meal which required Lobster! Excellent, efficient and friendly, characterful service from the beginning. Delightful fresh and clean tasting food bursting with flavour. A must visit if you like fish and seafood.
