The Traveller's Rest - Caerphilly
Amazing food. Outstanding service and cosy ambience. Will definitely return!
Very poor Sunday lunch. Roast potatoes soggy and not enough, cabbage? tough, gravy tasteless, waitress was hard selling the cauliflower cheese, but it was horrible, bland and soggy. Was really disappointed as we had gone here for a meal midweek and it was perfect. Lovely place (except for a couple on a nearby table whose kid constantly screamed) If you want a nice Sunday lunch go somewhere else.
Went again for a midweek meal and, again, poor. My chips were well overcooked and uneatable, homemade battered onion rings had no batter, they were just greasy onions, waited for ages, sad really as it is a lovely place.
Very long wait for food
Excellent food and service however we felt as though the seating and upholstery could do with a deep clean in the free seating / bar area.
We always visit this pub/Restaraunt every time we visit friends in Thornhill.
The food has improved enormously over the last two years and the service is now excellent.
Taking your drinks order at the table makes life a lot easier
A good and pleasant evening, would certainly take friends and family.
Terrible service, substandard food. Won't be going back in a hurry.
Long wait for food to be served. Hubby’s salad was wilted.
Although the restaurant was quite busy we were welcomed and taken straight to our table. The food was very good and the waitress , although seeing to quite a few tables , was very friendly and took time to help us with our choices. An excellent evening.
Been to the Traveller's a couple of times in the past month. Once for an evening meal with a group of friends and once for Sunday lunch with family. Both times were great. Food delicious and the staff friendly and helpful. Would definitely recommend.
Party of four celebrating a birthday & Golden Wedding. Although all the food we had was lovely, several of our first choices were not available. As it was only 7 p.m. on a Saturday this was a bit surprising. If it had been 8- 9p.m. it would have been more understandable. Limited choices of beers. However we all enjoyed it.
Loved the ambience of this place and as much as two of us enjoyed the food the third person in our party was sorely disappointed. He asked for fish and chips but when it arrived it was so overcooked it just crumbled when the knife went through it. Having had it returned to the kitchen, the next one was almost as unpleasant. The fish was almost Unrecognisable and raw. The chips had been reheated and mushy peas were cold. The staff were excellent considering they were sorely understaffed and tried to make the best out of a difficult situation. Best to take fish and chips off the menu when understaffed rather than present it like this. Shame on you.
The restaurant actually had a table reserved for us. Although they had not read the special request for a quiet area, however we were able to move tables to accommodate our request.
We all thought the menu was not as varied as in previous visits, portion size had been reduced, particularly with chips, but price tended to be expensive. In the past FISH dishes were more varied, not any more.
Service was good as always.
Food etc was lovely except they had no reference of my booking so we were unable to have table service. Not sure how this happened as I had confirmation from OpenTable of my booking.
Cannot review as they actually had no record of my booking made with open table . As it was for a birthday bitterly disappointed
Lovely food & a fab setting. Don't understand why they would put 4 adults in a room with tables of kids. Would appreciate nicer glasses for drinking brandy (not 1/2 pint glasses normally used for beer). Would also like to see some new cutlery not the cheap stuff you get in a greasy spoon - your worth more than that!! 😊
Food arrived within 5 minutes of ordering. Veg was awful, soggy and burnt in places. Gravy like water, beef chewy...
Overall very good, great value for money.
Vintage Inns always good
Ambiance of the pub itself is very agreeable. Service could have been a little more cheerful.
Perhaps staff were tired, because pub was quite busy.
Staff ( in particular who must have started the late shift ) young man was very accommodating.
Meal chosen was not what was ordered, but exchange was very quickly dealt with..
Value for money; cannot agree that my meal was worth £12.95. But nevertheless, burger was very tasty.
Fab venue however the restaurant booking team had not received the booking from yourselves!!!! Thankfully, the restaurant manager was very accomodatung and managed to find us a table!
