Very nice upmarket pub food. I had a duck confit - and my wife salmon with samphire - nice sauce and a decent piece of fish. Lovely souffle to bein. Good menu - friendly staff - starters 6 - 8 mails 13 - 18 - deserts 6 - 8 - cozy dining area
The staff are helpful , food is good apart from every time I have roast dinner , the option is medium or well done beef ! I always opt for well done beer, however it always comes pink & I end up leaving it ! That’s the only fault I have customer preference always right I thought .
Sunday lunch was absolutely exceptional in the cosy and comfortable dining area, and the service was very friendly and professional. I will definitely be returning to the Trout Hotel
Good choice on the menu but not a great selection of smaller meals suitable for a light lunch. Children’s meals were great and good portion sizes.
For me the noise level is paramount. Fortunately there were very few people in the restaurant at the early time that we dined. The piped music was in the adjoining area and played quietly.
Lovely meal good service one of our party would have liked to see more vegetarian options on the menu
We were in the mood for something simple but well cooked and presented, and that's exactly what we got: steak done as we asked, the best chips we've eaten for a long time, and vegetables that were neither over or under cooked. The fig tart with mascarpone was lovely, the fruit crumble so-so. Also had an excellent margarita with a properly salted rim, and a couple of nice glasses of wine. The lounge where we sat was cosy and not too crowded, the service swift and friendly. All in all, a really good night out. Will definitely go back.
Great venue, helpful and friendly staff and lovely food. Not cheap but still recommended.
Excellent. Felt very safe. Service a little slow in terms of clearing plates. Otherwise a superb evening.
Very good service and well cooked meals. Restricted choice on menu (but we know why ) Perhaps as it has to be so restricted at thje moment ther might be fewer fish dishes and more variety. However, I am probably the exception here as I have a fish intolerance and I have to say my meal was delicious (Chicken Pie)
I was a little disappointed that the hotel did not have a T Loop system for hearing aid wearers like myself, but again, as tables were well distanced, I managed OK.
As usual great service and ambience. Food lovely a d covid safe. Will be back again soon.
Good service and good food. Prefer the restaurant for Sunday lunch but these are different times now.
My friends nenu choice was disappointing so she didn't eat it all. We informed them following meal and a price reduction was offered.
I also booked a table in the terrace bistro but was seated in bar area
Really good quality food and service from the staff
We were friends meeting up for the first time since lockdown and had asked for socially distanced dining. We were put on a large table where we could sit diagonally opposite each other. Straight away we felt comfortable. The staff were well organised and there was plenty of space between us and other diners. There was a a good choice on the menu with a range of prices. It all added up to an enjoyable experience.
Whilst it's a limited menu there is still a good choice and I like the specials options
We were served quickly by a very attentive waiter and the food was very good. My steak was perfect and my wife's lamb's liver was plentiful and succulent.
Our shared dessert was very pleasant. We weren't subjected to loud music and the lounge we were in was comfortable.
The price was about what you'd expect.
One of our favourite places to eat in Cockermouth. Lovely food excellent service
A quiet dinner enhanced by good food which was well served. Would highly recommend
A delicious meal in relaxed surroundings. Excellent children’s end. Covid security taken very seriously
Fantastic food and service as usual! Had salmon - cooked perfectly with delicious crayfish sauce.
Reasonable meal at reasonable price. Nothing to write home about though.
Staff pleasant but wait to get taken to table too long
Good choices for the food menu - excellent portions
Staff are polite, attentive and responsive
Would certainly recommend
Very safe environment. Welcomed and taken to well spaced table. Cocktails to start and lovely food. Overall a very pleasant lunch out.
We had a pleasant visit for a late lunch in a familiar setting. We'll be back!
The Ttout is a lovely place to meet up with friends Also following covid 19 to the full felt very safe
Was a bit wary going away, but within the restaurant all organised. Food lovely.
Pleasant surroundings, good good and friendly, efficient service. Covid precautions were very good without being obtrusive. Can’t fault it.
Excellent meal well presented
Good service felt very safe
Had special chicken and ham pie. Would have been good value had it tasted nice. Partner wondered if that's how it should have tasted. It only tasted of pepper. I had to leave most of it and no enquiry made why most was returned. Baked cheesecake stodgy and expensive.
would recommend The Trout for a meal, excellent service and quality.
Good food clean and roomy
Only niggle was we wanted to choose where we sat and couldn’t on the open table app
Greeted on arrival and taken through to table, hand sanitizers available on initial entry. Lovely dining room with nice relaxed atmosphere. Staff were excellent, very friendly and polite, gave advise on menu when asked and had a good knowledge of menu. Food came well presented and tasted as good as it looked. Enjoyed the "sharing" starters which are similar to tapas, gives you a nice variety to try.
Mains were a good, good selection for all tastes.
Good wine selection.
Will be back 100%
The fish and chips was superb, served with tartar sauce and mushy peas. The fish was haddock and the batter was light and crispy. And then mini desert panacotta and coffee to follow.
Pleasant lunch venue that we know well. Seemed to have covid19 requirements in place. Good parking and easy access.
Overall the food and dining experience at the Trout was mediocre. We were disappointed. Staying at the hotel we ate in the Bar for lunch, the Bistro for dinner and the hotel for breakfast - a lacklustre experience. We assume they share the same kitchen and chefs. None of the meals taken we considered good. We experienced amongst things, cold plates for hot food, food which seemed to have been under heat lamps as sauces had started to dry out, and competing flavours within one dish.
In the Bistro, I had fish cakes, but these seemed to have very little fish, and mainly consisted of potato, that together with the accompanying potato, drying sauce and odd tasting spinach, which might have been nutmeg, made for a strange meal. I would question the Chef's palate and the overall organisation within the kitchen. It certainly was not up to the standards we were anticipating.
The meal was good food appeared freshly prepared, the service was excellent. We had booked the Bistro but had to go into the restaurant as bistro closed. Not sure however if bistro or restaurant menu as only one available. Due to covid ambience was limited but we made our own. The Trout followed the covid precaution guidelines, we felt safe and enjoyed our outing.
-Good food & friendly staff.
-They took the COVID measurements very seriously which I admire, not all places have been.
My wife and I both enjoyed our main courses: salmon and roast beef. Also the pudding course, poached pear and the cheeseboard. Add an excellent New Zealand white and Jennings beer, altogether a most enjoyable meal. Pleasant and helpful staff.
Very pleased to see the restrictions were in place and being adhered to. Tables were spaced out disposable menus and packets of individual condiments. We felt really at ease. Apart from the customers moving about and not putting their masks on. Food was lovely staff were very attentive and a quick service.
