The Union Steakhouse
We specialise in top quality steaks, using pure breed UK Hereford stock that has been 30 day aged to give a fantastic flavour and texture.
We also offer local fish from the Rye and Hastings fleet and some vegetarian options.
Online menu was not the menu offered. Only 2 covers in the restaurant so lacked any atmosphere. The service was fine, but my steak cooked as requested but to be honest it was instantly forgettable. A real shame and needs to step up a level when you consider the vast array of local competitors.
Delicious food, a bit too much sauce on the fish cake it was swamped, would rather of had sauce in a jug on the side .
My Husband had a fillet steak which he did think as nice as it was it was extremely small . My Ribeye was delicious.
The staff , service and the restaurant were very welcoming.
Was not impressed with the slow service the menu they provide at the restaurant is missing all the cheaper steak options that it shows on the website food wasnt great
Always a great experience. Each time we visit Rye we make sure we include The Union.
First impressions were not great as there were quite a few flies buzzing around and the place was empty, one other couple arrived after us but for a Friday evening you would expect to see a few more diners.
Service was good and the olives were great but that’s as good as the experience went for me, I ordered a rack of ribs which was £14 without the chips or onion rings (sides are extra) I was served a disappointing half rack that my 4yr old would have no problem devouring and a small piece of dry corn on cob, not happy with this I sent it back and thought I’d give the sirloin steak a go, it was ok, the peppercorn sauce was lumpy.
My wife enjoyed her dish tho the chicken skewers.
Staff were friendly and offered deserts on the house but by this point I just wanted to leave.
Great staff great service great meal, the staff were very professional and attended to all needs, the meal itself was full of flavour and although restaurant was busy food came out quickly. The location was just off main high street and the ambiance was delightful and overall experience was a very pleasant evening and will be returning.
Good quality steak that was cooked the way we had asked for. It's not cheap but not quality steak is, it's one of those meals you do need to pay a bit more for. The serving staff were very polite and helpful, it was quiet as we are early but I have a feeling they would be just as professional if the place had been busy. We did not have dessert so cannot comment on those but the selection looked good, we were just not hungry enough.
Great meal and excellent service and good value. A pleasant change from our overpriced hotel evening meal.
An excellent dinner with excellent service. Special thanks for accommodating a food allergy that is outside of the usual allergens that are listed. Would go again if we were back in Rye
Nice place. Good value. Lots of good options. Service was strong
Anniversary dinner. Service spot on, steaks cooked to perfection. Starters lacked a little imagination but were of a good standard. Excellent value for money. Will be back. Keep up the good work!
Service on arrival was youthfully enthusiastic. This was not matched by delivery from the kitchen, which was average at best. This was disappointing given restaurant came recommended. Entrees were OK, but not anything special. My ribeye steak was nowhere near the 300grams promised and accompanying chips were cold. Peppercorn sauce was "watery" and lacked flavour. My wife's salad lacked vital ingredients promised. The Dessert we shared was bland and was left unfinished. A disappointing outcome from an establishment which holds itself out as one of the better ones in Rye.
very pleasant staff, lots of choice and a fabulous Sunday dinner!
Steak and chips are delicious. Great atmosphere as always.
Most enjoyable evening out. Really like the décor and ambience at the Union Steakhouse. Nice atmosphere. Service was excellent. Well done to the waitressing staff, all very friendly and welcoming. Great food and drink too. Rye is beautiful.
Good choice of food. Pleasant seating, very friendly attentive staff.good value for money. Would recommend
We had very good service, steaks cooked as requested, wine excellent, lovely table. All very good.
Delicious meal, good service and reasonable prices in a modern restaurant. Really enjoyed it and we will return
A little disappointing, especially having been before and had a better meal. We waited over 30 minutes for food to come out which it did immediately after I queried the wait - leading me to think it had perhaps been sat on the hot pass. Okay just not great. The on-line menu was not entirely up to date.
Good was slightlu overcooked and under seasoned, poor value for money although staff were great
Not bad but not particularly memorable either. We were asked to go away and come bank in 10 minutes when we arrived on time for our table. Our kids food was brought out after our own even through we had asked for it to come out first. My wife’s medium rare steak was blue and we needed to ask for it to be reheated. Plus the vase of flowers in the window behind my seat has left a permanent yellow pollen stain on my shirt.
My Girlfriend and I where in Rye to celebrate her Birthday, we found The Union Steakhouse, reserved a table, Ben at The Union Steakhouse, looked after us for the evening, great service... great food, we will recommend and return.
Miguel and Charlotte.
The steak was poor very thin and tasteless was supposed to be sirloin steak the jacket potato was hard it was not good value for money staff were nice I live locally and get very disappointed with the restaurant s in rye
Food was excellent place was clean and the staff was friendly and attentive good all round would recommend
As always the perfect evening.
Great service, great food and seated in the snug.
If you like your steaks burnt then come here. I ordered a medium done fillet steak and the outside was charcoaled to a crisp. I couldn't taste anything other than burnt meat. I had to reluctantly show the waitress that the outside was rock hard due to the cremation of my steak. The poor waitress reaction was surprise and very understanding. So I thought maybe this is just a bad one off. However, when the new steak came back 10 minutes later it was also burnt to a crisp on the outside so badly i had to scrape the outside layer off the steak and quietly eat the remains of it. Clearly the chef prides himself on his charcoal grill but he had no idea on how to use it.
For a restaurant that calls itself a steak house it is unforgivable to present a steak so burnt that it is inedible. I am not one of those people who complains so that i can get a discount. I just want to pay a good price for good food. The waitress did offer free drinks which I accepted but i would never visit this restaurant again. The steaks are not cheap and no discount can compensate for food that is not fit for consumption.
For any meat lover who knows what a good steak should taste like without the need to burn it, avoid this restaurant to avoid disappointment.
Amazing food and service! Would totally recommend, has the best bbq ribs ever!
My partner had the fillet and was happy. I had the Tbone and it was fatty and full of sinew. Once our order had been taken service was non existent. Was never asked how the food was. Had to get up and go to find someone when it came to paying the bill. Complained about the tbon e and was told that's how it comes sometimes. Very poor
Amazing food! The staff were amazing, but was let down slightly when we had to wait a while for the bill to be brought over. However over all an amazing experience!
Excellent restaurant that we discovered a few weeks ago, have been back twice in one week!
Only thing I would say is that the owners have not hired enough staff, only 2 people serving and could do with a third based on the quality of service versus guests in the restaurant, and that was on a Wednesday night. On busy evening two staff just not enough. Please... owners... don't use false economy on the staff, it reflects badly on the business, and the ethics of the business.
It was our silver wedding anniversary waitress very attentive service and food excellent
The waiting staff had very little interest in any of the customers apart from their personal friends that attended.
The only comments were to ask if we had finished.
The steak was overcooked and overpriced in comparison to other establishments in the area.
Overall very poor. We will not be returning or recommending to anyone.
Lovely visit to the Union Steakhouse for my birthday & upon arrival we were offered two complimentary glasses of Prosecco. Very nice gesture.
The food was very good too and would recommend this restaurant to anyone visiting Rye. The two young ladies who looked after us were extremely pleasant and always had a smile while serving us.
Great food , apart from the dessert . The Banoffee pie was a disappointment. A little over priced once you add on sauce, salad, mushroom etc
The restaurant had great service and friendly staff, they called even called us in advance to advise of parking issues. We were very early for our booking and that was no problem at all. The girls were so nice and accommodating, chatty as well without being overbearing.
Food was great, tasty burger and cod mains, huge starters! Took a while to get the food biut we were in no rush.
Would have been five stars but a very noisy table (actually just one persons voice) totally boomed out the restaurant and made us not feel like lingering. Not the restaurant's fault though at all
Our 2nd visit here and it was enjoyable. Steaks were ok although one rather more fat than meat . Staff were friendly once we were seated. One a bit frosty at first when we arrived a few mins early and table not quite ready. After that she was fine so maybe a bit stressed!
It's a nice place in centre of town but not sure we would go back again
Get atmosphere and friendly staff
As always a lovely evening with great food, amazing atmosphere and lovely staff
Only ones in restaurant and yet we were sat by the kitchen/toilets. Offered a drink on the house as it was our anniversary but was charged for it. Ordered the t-bones which stated that it came with chips and salad and yet neither of us has a lettuce leaf. Website states smart casual and yet waitress was wearing sweat pants. Food was delicious but experience was not goid enough for us to make the drive from Ramsgate again.
Friendly staff and good value for money.
