The Union Steakhouse
We specialise in top quality steaks, using pure breed UK Hereford stock that has been 30 day aged to give a fantastic flavour and texture.
We also offer local fish from the Rye and Hastings fleet and some vegetarian options.
A perfect Saturday night out on the town. A really good bottle of wine and some decent fayre. Would have preferred crunchy chicken wings, with extra spice. More cheese in my burger. I would have appreciated having my wine and water poured. Otherwise I like this Restaurant
Solid straight forward steak house, prices reasonable, limited drinks menu, but just enough choice. Service friendly.
Dinner was perfect, steak was cooked to perfection and the service we received from Bella and Anna was brilliant, would 100% go back
Melt in the mouth steaks, well chosen wines, well presented restaurant with cool decor. Friendly, efficient staff who go work hard and do everything to make your meal the best. We had a table of 8 at the back where they had comfortable seating in an almost exclusive dining area. Was fantastic.
And those steaks... delicious
Food has always been very good. however on this last visit we noted the outside of out fillet steak was slightly burnt giving overpowered chargrilled taste and our mushrooms were also burnt. A bit disappointing as previously food has always been very good, different chief possibly?
Excellent steak. Great service. Staff very happy to take requested changes to standard menu items. Good atmosphere.
We visited the Union Streakhouse on a Saturday night. Overall it was a pleasant experience and service was good. The breaded mushroom starter was rather tasteless, but the rib-eye steak I ordered was very good, slightly let down by the chunky, which would have been better if they were handmade and not out of the freezer.
One of my favourite places to go In Rye. Highly recommend. Steak amazing as always. Love the halloumi and sweet chilli starter.
Pleasant restaurant. Nice steak. Good service. Go everytime in Rye.
Menu looked very inviting, but due to it being Bank Holiday and having been so busy during the day, choices were limited. No seabass, no new potatoes but second choice of fillet steak was very tasty, as was the rib eye steak. Staff very friendly and great choice of background music. Well worth a visit if in Rye.
The food and ambience are both great. The service was pleasant enough but quite slow. Shame as the food was very good
A perfect evening enjoying great food, wine and friendly service.
Had another fantastic meal at the Union. Staff very attentive, great steak as usual. Would highly recommend it.
Overpriced and food variable. Side dishes very expensive eg £1.00 for a tomato. The complimentary water on arrival a nice touch. No steak knives were offered. Dusty and cob webs in our corner. Not sure I would go back again.
We had a lovely Birthday meal on Saturday evening, we all had different starters and all had different steaks, all were cooked perfectly :)
Staff were great, all in all a perfect evening.
Union steakhouse is was amazing, there was 7 of us who all order different thing & everyone was extremely happy with their food, all steaks cooked to perfection. Our waitress was great too, would highly recommend union steakhouse
Very nice meal. We went on a quiet night and it was really relaxing. Food was superb and the Staff were lovely. Great night out !
Great food, service and atmosphere at a reasonable price. Would definitely recommend this restaurant.
We love the union we have always chosen to come here for a good steak always cooked perfectly good quality well presented tasty food , good service, the only thing that lets it down is the cleanliness of the skirting boards walls door push points & toilet it needs a proper clean I think they must clean it themselves there’s a lot of improvement needed in the cleaning dust on back of toilet door it’s just generally grubby if the cleaning was improved it would be 100% fantastic.
Good restaurant for steaks, felt there could be a little more on the menu. Nice atmosphere but quite cramped.
As always the food, service, atmosphere was great.
Always a warm welcome and delicious food and wine -
relaxed and cosy ambience.
Perfect for a date night.
We were given a lovely table for two in the bay window, the fresh flowers and candles providing a special ambiance.
The staff were both friendly and enthusiastic, and the food was delicious, cooked to perfection.
Lovely restaurant, lovely service from Steph and Pauline, nothing was too much trouble. Steaks were great, onion rings immense! Had a really nice evening very relaxed
Lovely fresh ingrediants food was very well presented and their roast dinner was excellent! staff very friendly and attentive ! A bit tucked away but a very good find ! Definately eat there again 😀
We spent a pleasurable evening celebrating our wedding anniversary. The food was excellent and the environment lovely. I was a little disappointed that the fact it was a special occasion was not recognised, verbally would have been fine and I pre-warned the restaurant of my wife’s allergies, which needed repeating, something I was trying to avoid.
Second visit, this time there was a new chef and the food was poor. Had to complain 3 times about how my steak was cooked and every time it came out the same.
Love this place!
Always a lovely ambience; delicious food and friendly service.
Fast becoming our favourite steakhouse in Sussex.
Excellent food and location as always
Went there for Mothering Sunday and it’s a lovely place. Good food, prices reasonable and great service. Our starter, baked Camembert, was lovely (thick crusty bread, as opposed to one slice of thin, would’ve have made it excellent) My only complaint would be the size of the fillet that we ordered. We would be happy to pay a little more, as the meat was excellent, for a larger sized steak. Ribs were also excellent and the deconstructed cheesecake was fantastic. Nice selection of wines and beers. Overall very good and would definitely recommend it.
We've been a few times before so we know how good it can be but on this occasion it was a real let down.
Ran out of Sunday Roast at 2pm on Mothering Sunday.
Then on ordering a steak and salad sent us steak which although rare was actually fridge cold in the middle and the salad consisted of one leaf of lettuce, a bit of cucumber and a tomato.
Total disappointment. Had to leave.
Good menu, lovely quality food and reasonably priced - it was very quiet when we visited (Sun eve) but that didnt impact our enjoyment.
Great simple food done really well. We were attended to very well and the food was brought out promptly and hot. The atmosphere was relaxed and every table was taken. People were being turned away. Definitely recommend booking in advance. If we go back to Rye for a weekend we will be be return customers.
Our reservation was 7.15 and while my partner was at the table alone, your waitress proceeded to give the specials etc at great speed then had to do it again upon my return. She was awfully young and had no knowledge of the wines you sold. I ordered a ribeye steak with jacket potato which arrived with no garnish and the additional side orders were not explained to me. Would you not think that odd that someone would order just 2 items without asking the customer if they would like a salad or something?
At 9pm, having seen a couple arrive at 8.45 and hoovering around then leave we were told to vacate our table 1 hour 45 mins into our visit. The explanation was ‘we have live online bookings’ but at no time were we told that the table was ‘re booked’ and in my vast experience of dinning our the protocol is always 2 hours if the table is re-booked. All in all a very bad experience.
OK, This was our 44th wedding anniversary and we were meaning to have a good quality meal to celebrate. So earlier, in our local pub, I was telling my friends where I was taking my wife for dinner that evening but I didn't realise I hadn't got much of a response from them, strangely? Anyhow, upon entering the Union we were welcomed warmly by the lovely smartly dressed young lady waitresses and politely shown to our table. We ordered our drinks and studied the menu with keen interest at the choices available. My wife ordered white bait for our shared starter and "Rye bay catch of the day" for her main course. I ordered a "T" Bone. We were told by a delightful but embarrassed waitress that both of our main course choices were sold out and we would have to order something else. "Sold Out" I said "at this time in the evening". It was 6.30pm. The girl explained that a large party yet to arrive had reserved all the T Bone and Rye bay catch of the day, earlier on the day. An efficient manager would ensure sufficient additional stocks were ordered for a Friday nights trade, yes indeed. So, my wife could not have fish as there was none available and as a non-meat eater she had no choice but to order four vegetable starters as a main and I ordered a medium "30 Day" Ribeye steak with two large prawns, plus chips.
So, my wife's veg was ok ish, my not-very-large prawns were way over cooked to the point where they cannot be peeled properly and the Ribeye was overcooked and difficult to cut with a steak knife.
The bill came to £55 ish and I gave a £5 tip because the staff that we experienced were delightful and deserved a far better level of menu support and chef skills.
My husband and I returned to the Union Steak House for our Anniversary meal and enjoyed an excellent meal in wonderful cosy surroundings server by very friendly and helpful staff. We will definitely be returning next year. Carol and Nick Graves.
Amazing food yet again and brilliant service. Thanks
Smart and modern decor, we had filet steaks which were excellent. Recommended.
The place is OK and the food is not bad either but the service was really bad, the waitresses appeared disinterested and at times looked annoyed. The mains took ages to arrive and one of our party had to wait for more that 10 minutes for her main so the rest of us had to eat cold steaks.
