A pleasant evening, the food was good but the staff seemed a bit rushed
Great place for a catch up with friends, relaxed dining, decent food and a nice ambience
This was our first visit to the Victoria. We had to wait a little while as our table wasn’t ready ( a busy restaurant is a good sign ). It was a rather noisy as there was a table of about 6 behind us. My friend & I had the pâté , which was delicious. As it was Sunday the menu was slightly different & I requested something from the á la carte menu. Hannah B , our waitress was very pleasant & helpful. She said she would ask the chef ( Reece ) if he could serve me from the á la carte & he said no problem . Great service. All the food was delicious & portions we’re good. Prices reasonable too. We all enjoyed the food & will definitely return.
Environment and service were very good! Main course was very good too. Disappointed with the starter which was mushroom in tempura batter. The mushrooms were all sliced and all I can taste is the tempura batter and not mushroom. It’s the first time that I am disappointed with a starter. Feedback verbally was given to waitress to be passed on to the chef! Would have preferred if it was 2 whole mushrooms fried in tempura batter!
Unfortunately we were sat meant that there were people pushing past all through our meal which did spoil it somewhat
I am a regular as normally everything is great, but we were let down by the food on this occasion. The fish and chips was fine as was the normal burger. However the vegan burger looked as though it had come out of a frozen packet, formed like a teardrop patty rather than a hand made burger which I was expecting. It tasted ok, just looked mass produced. The main problem wa s with vegetarian pasta which had a piece of plastic in it. We weren’t charged for it but it was disappointing. The brownie was very stodgy too, not light and melt in the mouth as on other occasions.
Lovely meal, excellent service. Would definitely go again. Loved the fact that they cater for customers who require alcohol free drinks. I had a soft tail which was lovely. Not just the boring drinks such as Diet Coke or lime and soda.
Good quality food at an affordable price.
Excellent ambiance at the Victoria, we have been quite a few times now with friends and various members of our family and they have all wanted to go back again. We would like to thank Megan for looking after us on our last visit, she is a very efficient member of your staff.
I thought after they had refurbished it a few weeks ago, they would have put a new menu in or at least improved and added more daily specials.
We come here often as we always enjoy it here and would recommend it food and staff are lovely
Good food and good value .... we accidentally went on Fathers Day ...not for that occasion.... naturally it was very busy
Lovely evening out gluten free options available a little difficult to understand
When we arrived it was clear that opentable doesnt work as the vic had no booking for us.
We had to wait until 21:00 for a table booked at 20:15 and was stood for all that time and we did not start to eat until 21:00.
The table was down stairs despite making a booking for easy disabled access.
This is the 4th time we have dined at The Victoria Inn, and the 4th time it has exceeded our expectations! Great pub, great food, reasonable prices! great staff.
Just one disappointment - one of the four starters was cold (not ideal for something with melted cheese!), but everything else was excellent. We had a very good table, easy to converse although restaurant was very busy. Bar service and restaurant service excellent.
Overall a lovely experience.Bar very busy but service good.
Three of us ate here for a get together. I recommended it because I had eaten here once before with friends and it was very pleasant - it is also local to two of our party. Unfortunately when we arrived the place was packed (seemed almost overflowing with tables) with festive/birthday groups (Dec). This is fine and adds to the atmosphere but the staff was under a lot of pressure. It took at least 10 minutes after being seated for anyone to take a drinks order and then we waited quite a long time for them to be delivered and the food order to be taken. They offered, along with the usual (very varied) menu, a specials choice and also the festive menu which, on the face of it, seemed fantastic but in reality meant the kitchen couldn't cope with such diversity on what was an extremely busy night. We ordered starters which arrived in a reasonable time but our main course (from the standard menu) took over an hour to get to us, which is totally unacceptable. The waitress came and apologised and offered a bottle of proscecco (which we declined because of driving) and told us the meals were being plated up, but we then waited at least another 10 minutes for them to arrive. Mine was hot but one of the party had luke warm fish cakes (which also seemed to have very little fish in - they tasted more like potato cakes when I tried some) which were standing on a very dried up pea puree. I think maybe when you are offering an additional menu on top of the usual you need to greatly reduce what is on offer to be able to cope with demand. We didn't complain as the waitress was obviously embarrassed, we just paid up and left and felt disappointed that a lovely get together was a bit tarnished by the experience in the restaurant.
Food was great. I was a little disappointed that the menu is the same as the barnt green inn but there were plenty of specials on offer. I had the venison which was cooked perfectly. Staff are friendly, helpful and knowledgeable. We will be going back.
Amazing food and service the scallops were amazing this is the forth time ive been to the vic and i cant complain
Unfortunately when I arrived the restaurant did not have any record of my booking with OpenTable. They had a booking for someone with a very similar name to me for a time later and for for 4 people rather than 2 which we thought was strange. They managed to accommodate us but told us they would need the table back within an hour (which wasn't great as this was a catch up with a friend so didn't really want to be rushed). They rushed us through our starter (telling us our mains were ready when we were still on our starter). They didn't actually end up moving us after all the rush which was a bit strange - but maybe there was a confusion with the booking and that other booking under an extremely similar name never turned up.
Other than that, the food was good.
This is the Second time that we have eaten here and the second time that its been superb!!
The pub is clean and friendly and the food was well presented and very enjoyable. We were sitting right in the bar which was quite load and felt crowded, but apart from that was a very enjoyable evening. Definitely would go again.
