The Voyage of Buck
Great food and service in a gorgeous setting. As ever top notch.
Excellent food and service
Fantastic serving staff; very knowledgeable about the menu and food, helpful and attentive, extremely friendly.
Delicious food, wine list good with gorgeous rose blush, would highly recommend. Something for everyone. Really cosy atmosphere - could do casual or formal there.
Some of the chairs could do with a revamp but sorted it no problem. Lovely hidden gem - would definitely visit again.
Fab Xmas menu, great value and excellent service! Definitely return.
We had a fantastic pre-rugby brunch/lunch accompanied by a short presentation on a Glasgow Gin.
Great food and all round ambience plus very attentive and friendly service
Our first visit definitely won’t be our last. The food was great and the staff were amazing
First visit and like the whole concept. Food was a bit slow to arrive and 3 of 4 dishes were well received , tasty and presented well. My chicken Kiev was a well home cooked version but wasn’t well seasoned or very tasty. Would give voyage of buck another try as ambience great and staff very friendly and helpful
We were seated in the cosy booth beside the bar, with an imaginative light above us (a glass tank full of plastic yellow ducks!) and had very attentive service. We had the confit of duck leg which was very tasty and had loads of meat on it. Never had duck leg with so much meat on it before! Didn't have a starter so had room for dessert which was also tasty, although my husband's baklava was a little hard to break into with just a spoon (asked for a fork to help with that) but it tasted good and came with raspberry icecream. I had the pomegranate parfait with a ginger biscuit which was excellent. We ate midweek and didn't experience the noise other reviewers have mentioned, but suspect it's quieter in the booth anyway. Think you could easily seat 6 in the booth, so you could always request it when booking. Would be happy to eat here again.
Bar staff, ambience and cocktails were all brilliant. Unfortunately, although the food was generally very good we had a couple of issues. Disgustingly, the chef blamed the bar staff for the issues with the food and we heard him swearing and shouting at them, which completely ruined our experience and therefore we wouldn't recommend eating here. By all means go for cocktails, as staff and drinks are amazing.
The staff were lovely. The drink options were very good. Despite being very busy after international rugby match we did not have to wait too long. The staff make this excellent venue.
Nice buzzy bar/restaurant with cosy but interesting decor (we sat under a glass box full of rubber ducks!) It's loosely divided into a bar side and a restaurant side but the divide isn't strictly enforced - we ate at a very nice booth at the back of the bar area. It was a Friday night so fairly lively and noisy; we were fine in the booth but it may have been louder in the main rooms. The menu read really well - we wanted to try everything! - and it was nicely delivered. Food was tasty with quite a few cheffy flourishes. Service pleasant and efficient especially given how busy it was.
Wonderful bar. Warm atmosphere. We knock coming here.
Absolutely love this place! After recently moving to Edinburgh and living nearby, it’s my favourite spot to take friends and family when they visit. Great food, atmosphere and can’t rate or recommend highly enough the Gion Negroni cocktail 🥃
All day breakfast top quality with good ales to accompany. Service is excellent and attentive without being intrusive. I loved Bert's Bar but this is a great improvement to meet the changing demand on pubs. It will probably still be good for pre-rugby days hopefully!!
Main course was very disappointing as the fish skin was slimey and vegetables were greasy and only look warm with a blob of butter on the plate which didn’t melt. Starter was small but adequate
Great friendly service and great atmosphere. Small plates were tasty
Menu was good but the quality and presentation of the food was poor. Staff were very friendly and pleasant, but inattentive. We often had empty glasses, cutlery was forgotten and we had to try very hard to get their attention.
I wouldn't recommend for food or for a business meal, but it's a nice pub with good beer and wine and friendly staff.
Service was great. Tom (I think that was his name) was excellent. Knowledge of the cocktails and food was spot on. He recommended drinks based on our tastes; each drink was memorable and very fitting.
The food was very good. Prices reflected a good value. None of the food was over complicated. Good simple flavours. Get the lamb.
This is the type of place you wish you had in your own city.
Had both lunch & dinner here on a few occasions- food is always excellent & the staff are friendly. Recommend to anyone in this part of town 👍
The restaurant was very noisy and it was difficult to talk. Partly due to the music level and also very noisy table beside us. The food portions were on the small side- particularly the veggie pasta option which was more a starter size and I don't have a huge appetite.
Not great value for money over all.
One of the best meals out I have had in Edinburgh - service and food were faultless
Great place for a drink. Food good too but although not a big venue acoustics made it really difficult to have a conversation. Maybe it was just where we were sitting.
My new West End Favourite. I've been for brunch and also sampled the small plates. Mick also introduced me to the cocktail list. I will be back.
Really fun. Went for my birthday, hadn't been before. Good food, interesting and well prepared. Very nice staff. Great to find somewhere different. Pretty noisy tho, so not a choice if you want to talk.
All very good - food was delicious and the staff are lovely. Only one thing when we were there it was very loud so perhaps not best for a romantic dinner.
The food was delicious and it was surprisingly affordable. I originally saw this restaurant on a best restaurants in Scotland list.
Food pretty poor, I had steak which was fine, you can't really go wrong there but my friend had the pork belly which was undercooked and not crispy on the outside as it should be. Wouldn't return for food but would for a drink, their prosecco cocktail looked nice and good for a group of girls.
Lovely dinner shame it was lukewarm
I took a friend from Aberdeen as I have been here for a drink and the staff have always been lovely and the atmosphere great. However the girl serving looked miserable and although the food was delicious (chicken) it was lukewarm, I suspect it had been sitting out for a while as it took a very long time to arrive at our table and whilst I don't mind that, when it arrives cool you realise why.
Very disappointing especially as I recommended the place. A wasted lovely dinner as well.
While the food was good and the service not bad, the room is far too noisy and it is difficult to hold a conversation. The main cause is the wooden floor with nothing to absorb sound.
Place too noisy to have a decent conversation for a catch up with more than two people. When we asked music was turned down but the chatter from other guests echoes throughout the place. Food and service were good but the noise level impacted on our evening out.
We enjoyed the food, but found the noise level a bit tiring. Will try again, but not on a Friday evening
Really good. Will definitely be back. Sometimes the restaurant feels a bit short staffed which must be stressful for the people who work there.
