Let's start with the good things...chefs know what they are doing in the kitchen The meal was delicious. Too bad the ambience felt like a bus tour dining room with overly bright lighting and loud long rows of diners . Our table kept tilting ..noticed others struggling with the same issue. The waitress was stressed .
The absolute worst thing...it was my husbands 60th birthday dinner. The reservation was triple checked for a preordered special apple pie which I was assured by the Huff estates where we were staying and the Waring House was a go...they totally forgot. We waited and mentioned this to the waitress who basically only came back with our bill.
So disappointing. The big 60th birthday dinner was somewhat a bust..
Attention to detail sorrowfully lacking.
The Waring House Inn- Amelia's Garden Restaurant definitely 'does not' qualify as fine dining. A nicely decorated dining room with view of a flower garden from the windows. HOWEVER, the dinners (4 in our group) were by far 'the worst experienced' under an Open Table reservation. Quality of food, for all of us, was disappointingly poor. Pickerel was tasteless. Entrée of the day, Prime Rib Roast was tasteless, tough, chewy and an exceedingly thin slice of meat placed over mashed potato. It was very pink even though ordered closer to well done. And yet very chewy. Firmly believe this was a cheaper piece of meat served in disguise by this restaurant. Burnt on the bottoms and crispy dry Yorkshire pudding accompanied our 3 plates. Service was friendly, but exceedingly slow. Waited almost 2 hours after being seated at table, for first course of 4 soups to come. Just prior to serving, our waitress informed us that the kitchen ran out of soup and had to make another batch. Dining room was practically empty on the Sunday evening, how could that be? Dessert which was to have ice cream with it according to menu, came without. Upon bringing this up to server's attention, a separate bowl of 2 scoops of what appeared to be frozen yogurt consistency arrived. Truly disappointing that the meal for the two of us ($134 before gratuity) for what we paid, was not what would be expected for the price we paid. Not fine dining experienced. 'Definitely Not Recommended.'
We celebrated our anniversary Sept. 2nd by dining at Waring House. The service was excellent. Our server was welcoming, professional, and made a positive contribution to our experience. We have fond memories of Waring House, going back some thirty-five years. Our experiences there have been uniformly positive. Until this last one.
Please be advised that the quality of our meals was so poor that, except for our history there, we would not go back. My wife had a steak. It was overdone, and virtually tasteless. I wondered about poor quality meat disguised with marinate. I had the special. Pickerel is challenging to cook, but done correctly has a wonderfully subtle flavour. Mine was overcooked, and even with the dressing was essentially tasteless. The visual presentation of both meals reflected careless acceptance of mediocre.
Waring House over the years has reflected skillful management with focused attention to detail. We sincerely hope our negative experience was an aberration.
We had a lovely meal at Amelia’s Garden. The service was very good and the food was truly great. Can never go wrong with The Waring House.
Gorgeous setting to enjoy a delicious, well prepared meal.
Food was good. Music was good. The service was just ok.
It started good when the waiter explain the menu, they all sounds delicious. The fish we ordered was dry, tasteless, and not fresh at all. The risotto rice came with it was smooshing. The other food we ordered was steak with blue cheese and caramelized onion( you can choose beef blue cheese and tarragon butter sauce) first they didn’t bring any sauce with it after i had half of it i asked about the blue cheese and caramelized onion he told me that was a seasoning for the steak!!! I was so confused since it wasn’t my first time eating steak, then i found a hair in my mashed potato! I didn’t bother complaining about that, cause i afraid it turns out that was a seasoning for mashed potatoes! I had to asked 4 times to get a glass of milk for my kid. It was after we finish our precious dinner that they brought us some milk! We paid $130 for this unpleasant dinner( 2 beer was included and a kids menu food)
We love Waring House which has been our go-to spot during cottage seasons. This particular dinner was by far the worst and hopefully an exception. The Perch fritters were simply deep fried dough - Perch be damned! Duck breast was chewy and flavour was lacking. Overall, it was not the usual high standard we were accustomed to at the Waring House.
The room where we were seated was right beside the bar and it was very noisy when the band was playing.
We were very disappointed in the food other than the pickerel was lovely. One steak was over cooked, one was undercooked, the chicken was dry, and my vegetables were so cold I had to send them back too. The server was excellent, but waited an hour for our dinners to come. My perch fritters were spongy, but the Caesar salad and asparagus soup was delicious. We certainly won’t be rushing back, and it was my 76th birthday.

The dining room is very inviting and our table at the window gave us a great view of the fall garden. Our server - a very friendly lady - was efficient and very accommodating. She had served us superbly during a previous meal and it was a great pleasure to have her serve us again. Everyone was very pleased with their meal and I found the Apple/Cheddar starter soup a delicious new taste experience. Well done Waring House!
Arrived on time and was seated right away. Server was friendly and attentive. We both ordered a roasted beet salad with sugared walnuts, spinach and blue cheese which was very good. My wife ordered the pasta special which was supposed to be penne with chicken and spinach. It came as rigatoni with only two tiny pieces of chicken and a roasted red pepper cream sauce which she did enjoy.
My meal was gnochi with pulled chicken, mushrooms and fresh local peas which was tasty but only lukewarm. Sent back to be heated. Server said chef apologized.
Ordered lemon lime cheesecake with berry compote and a coffee. Coffee came and when I took my first drink, realized milk was totally soured. Server replaced my coffee and was apologetic.
Server had forgotten dessert and when she brought it there was just the bare cheesecake. We said we would like the fruit as per the menu, and she returned to say there was none left!
Overall ambience was nice. There was live piano in the background and a nice view of the grounds through large picture windows. We rated the food 3 star.
Oh, and we received our bill with no adjustments and no visit with the manager.
Dont think we would return.
Late meal and live music which was fun even on a quiet evening. Service was good food was nice and overall we enjoyed our meal. Looking forward to coming back on a cold winter night to warm up !
Nice ambience and good service. Pickerel could have a few more veggies—they were a bit sparse. Otherwise, a nice meal
The meal for what we paid was ok but not what we expected for the price we paid. The fish I had could have used a sauce and my wife's gnocchi was a little undercooked.
Overall it was underwhelming.
Lovely venue, pretty gardens, suitable for an older crowd. Piano player was a nice addition. The service was good, but food just ok. We did enjoy our evening, but would have liked the food to be a bit better.

Very good food, location overlooking a garden. You have to try their gnocchis if they are on the menu. Nice selection of wines too! If you have a chance, have your apero at the pub just beside. The staff is quite fun and live music is always a plus!
Food was mediocre. Many items on the menu were not available. Server was friendly and apologetic for the unavailability of items
The dining room had a great atmosphere, linen cloths and piano music! We had a wonderful meal just the portions on the liver were over the top. Great service an overall lovely evening. We live in Belleville and nothing compares over there. I am a county girl so always like to go back to my roots and was not disappointed.👍🏻👍🏻
Delicious meal looking out on a large garden. Very attentive service. Try the chocolate and cherry crème brûlée!
I have dined here many times over the years. The food is always delicious and the service consistently good. Plus, the gardens are truly beautiful. A delight for all the senses.
The food was bland and underwhelming. The service was very slow and below average. We did not know where the host stand was when we walked in and yet two servers who were standing next to us pointedly ignored us for 5 min instead of offering to help. This restaurant definitely does not qualify as “fine dining”. We were extremely disappointed.
Service (servers) and setting (overlooking the garden) was great.
Our meal was dissappointingly average. My serloin was overcooked and my wife’s fish undercooked. The carrots were hard.
The Waring House grounds are beautiful and the atmosphere was pleasant enough. But I am sorry to say that the dinning experience for myself was quiet off putting. I had ordered a medium rare steak with a salad instead of the potatoes while my friend next to me ordered a medium steak with potatoes. When the food arrived my friend ended up with the medium rare steak potatoes and my salad. Our waiter apologized and said someone else had platted the dishes. I took the salad from my friend only to discover it had no dressing. The other disappointment was the steak was over cooked. As my friend had already started eating and was enjoying her steak and also had the potatoes we could not trade plates. I have only send food back once in all of my dining experience and this was only the second time I have had to do this. The plate did come back and the salad was dressed this time. I tried the steak again and the first bite was alright and told the waiter it was ok. When I proceed to take the second bite I noticed that the steak was even more cooked and this must of been the same steak. At this point I did not bother to call the waiter back and just left it on the plate half eaten. I have been to Prince Edward County main times and have had excellent food the majority of the time. Now that the County is getting more popular and there are more restaurants opening up I feel The Waring House will need to refocus on making sure the experience for all their diners is on par with the prices that they charge. Unfortunately, I cannot recommend this restaurant. This was my first time to The Waring House and even some of my friends who have been there before said the food was not as good as it has been in the past.
AS ALWAYS THE FOOD IS AMAZING ... THE ONLY COMPLAINT I HAVE IS THAT THE SERVER NEVER REALLY ACKNOWLEDGE THE BIRTHDAY EVEN THOUGH WE TOLD HER AT THE TABLE AND IT WAS ON THE RESERVATION MADE THE WEEK BEFORE :) FOOD WAS FANTASTIC THOU :)
We went on a date during Countylicious. The food was very tasty - I had the pork belly, pork back ribs and creme brulee ice cream all of which I recommend. The ribs were a bit underdone so even though I was given a steak knife, I had to eat them with my hands but oh well the dry rub on them was addicting. The live piano was great - the pianist played a great mix of recognizable classics and newer tunes. Service was a bit stiff and seating a bit cramped.
Once again enjoyed a delicious countylicious menu. The selection was good and the creme brulee icecream was incredible!
Excellent dinner and great service ! Just surprised when arrived as they did not have our reservation booked. They managed to accommodate us though.
