The West End Grill

Since Roland sold The West End Grill, some things aren’t as up to par as they once were.
The cocktail game is completely off! Cocktails priced from $15-$20 should taste like they’re handcrafted. Ours were full of ice!
When two of us ordered the same drink, I had to specify that each was crafted separately. And, still, the cocktails were weak and mostly ice. Price says handcrafted. Reality is we could’ve gotten a better drink next door.
Roland paid attention to the bar program, knowing it was an essential part of an enjoyable meal..Skimpy over priced drinks were unheard of at West End. Now, it seems to be your signature.
Caprese salad tomatoes weren’t ripe. Mozzarella cheese could’ve been a higher quality. Just sayin’. Don’t offer it if you can’t get proper quality ingredients.
*The meals were great— so this was your shining moment. *
You can buy a restaurant but if you are trying to short your customers and/or you simply think that’s business, you’re wrong.
In it’s former life, The West End Grill was amazing from start to finish and every step in between. We didn’t experience the quality we were accustomed to under Roland’s ownership. This is only our third time in since the restaurant was sold. The rhythm is off and we’re sad to say, we won’t be back for a while.
Just before Xmas the place was lively and noisy. Appetizers were great but main course disappointed. Excellent , imaginative cocktails, good wine list but the food was not up to the level of the prices. Waiter was professional but wasn’t always paying attention to serving our courses when we were ready. I have always liked WEG but this last visit was disappointing
Perfection!

My husband and I eat at West End fairly often. They consistently have excellent service and excellent food.
Kevin is one of the very best servers in town. He’s always pleasant and times our courses and wine pourings out perfectly. On the food end, we especially love the lobster tail, which is one of the best we’ve had outside of Maine.
I highly recommend West End Grill to anyone who enjoys excellent food and service.
We love the West End Grill and have been there many times over the years. The noise level is our only complaint as we get harder to hear....
The food was great. Service was at our table was slow, but everything delicious!!
This was a fabulous find. Great food, service was excellent and a menu with so many delicious choices.
West End was recommended by a colleague for my birthday dinner. It was a fantastic experience! The restaurant is cozy and charming, the staff was beyond nice and efficient, and the food was spectacular! I had the short rib and my husband had the filet Bearnaise and both were excellent. I would also highly recommend the seafood strudel, and orange cake for dessert. It is quite pricey but just a phenomenal experience for a special occasion!
Went for our anniversary. Love this restaurant! Great food and great service every time we go. Recommend it to anyone who asks for fine dining recs in AA.
Amazing food and service. The chalkboard menu with verbal description of each option was impressive.
Very nice environment. The menu and food was very impressive. Will return.
We had not been to the West End Grill in many years because of the noise level in the past. We loved it this time and would return for special occasions. Delicious food. Excellent service. Thank you.
Best place for a romantic date night and special occasion.
We have been fans of West End Grill for years. We had our wedding rehearsal dinner there and have celebrated many occasions there in the last 10 years. We were very disappointed in our dinner and are unlikely to return. The food was marginal. The service was good, but when we have celebrated there in the past the service has been outstanding, it's always been a special experience, this was not.
Outstanding start to finish!
Noisy for a Saturday night. Service and food was good but not great. I’d suggest sticking to the scallops as steak lacked flavor, great were very good.
Very good food, very good service, moderately loud when busier.
Overpriced by about 20-25%, though, I'd say.
Great food and service, chairs are hard to sit in for a 2 hour dinner. Pricing becoming VERY expensive
The food and service were very good and what I would expect for an upscale restaurant. The ambience and decor, however, were not upscale and we were quite disappointed.
Excellent food and service. Had a wonderful time! Manager and staff were extremely attentive. Great atmosphere
The food was outstanding - we really enjoyed the meal, service, and atmosphere. Great evening out!
Too bad the owner sold our old favorite! The food prices went up, drink prices ridiculous and stale dessert; surprised to get a table on a Friday night and now we know why... scallops over cooked too
Entrees were hot but vegetables and potatoes were barely warm. Soup was a little thin. Expect a bit more for $50/entree
Great ambiance with amazing service. The beignets, wine and key lime pie were the best! The food was good, just not “excellent “. However, we would definitely be back.
A wonderful place for special occasions ( in this case, our anniversary). Food and service were Superb. Everything was excellent. Really a special dining experience
Our entre's were both amazing, services and wine were great however we saved room for dessert on our anniversary and were very disappointed. The chocolate cake was obviously microwaved, leaving it a gummy, inedible texture. The raspberry sauce was non-existent and disappointing, considering the high level that the meals are I would expect more from the desserts. From fridge to microwave is what I would expect from an Applebees or Chili's, absolutely not such a high end and delicious restaurant. Service was great, just enough attention but he also gave us our space. I will be back again for entres!
Spoiled living in Chicago where a meal for this price is so much better... Food was really just okay. No interesting flavors or uniqueness to any of the dishes save the duck steamed buns. Service remains great—but in my opinion they need to seriously step it up in the kitchen!
Wonderful for our 53rd wedding anniversary.
Wait staff extremely knowledgeable of the menu, sea bass and steak dinners were scrumptious, jake the manager gave us personal attention. Not cheap but very much worth the price. We will be going back!!
Went for our anniversary. Staff were great, as was the food perfect place for a special night.
Very attentive wait staff, good variety of menu choices, excellent Old Fashioned
Prompt seating
It was "ok". Waiter was great. Food was just ok. We had the dumplings appetizer, really seemed like it needed a sauce. Also had the artichoke appetizer as well. For dinner I had the gnocchi and she had the scallops. Risotto with the scallops was really aldente, not cooked in the wine or broth enough. You could really tell everything was fresh and that the kitchen cared for sure. None of the dishes tasted great, flavor was just "ok".
I am so relieved that new management has retained the staff. The professionals who work there contribute to the cozy friendly ambience. "Some times you want to go where everybody knows your name....."
We dined alfresco to escape the high noise level of a private party in the restaurant but had a wonderful experience. It was a cool, breezy summer night in AnnArbor and our server, Rita, was excellent. The honey mustard shrimp appetizers with applewood bacon were spectacular and followed by superb swordfish and wonderful scallops. Excellent wine selection.
The service was great and so were the drinks. My steak was a little tough, and the tuna tartare was lacking any flavor, but the rest of the food was great.
Our table was ready right at our reservation time. Our server was very knowledgeable and friendly. Service was great, food was excellent. Delicious from apps to dessert and great cocktails. We were seated close to a very loud party of businessmen. They were so loud I had to ask the server multiple times to repeat himself when describing the menu and again when I ordered.
West. End. Grill!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Absolutely the best restaurant in Ann Arbor. Service, Food, Wine list, Location, it's EXQUISITE. All of it.
Have eaten at West End Grille several times. Very disappointed in the food. Vegetables were soggy.
The server was excellent but overall, we were very disappointed in the food.
We have always enjoyed the West End Grill. Our waiter, Rita, was a wonderful server, explaining the various dishes in detail and with enthusiasm. It is a very relaxing place to have a great meal - quiet and paced out with appetizer, entrée and desert in a quiet beautiful setting. Highly recommended!
